Amazfit Balance Ultra vs Garmin fēnix 8: Which Watch Fits Your Needs?

By Freedom251 Team · · 6 min read

The Amazfit Balance Ultra has the larger stated display and longer manufacturer battery-life estimates; the 47 mm AMOLED Garmin fēnix 8 offers multi-band GPS and a broader set of mapping and training features. Those specifications describe different modes and manufacturer scenarios, not a controlled head-to-head test. The better fit depends on how you use GPS, whether you need outdoor navigation, your preferred health and training ecosystem, and the exact fēnix version.

Which versions are being compared?

This comparison uses the Amazfit Balance Ultra listed on Amazfit’s US site and the 47 mm AMOLED Garmin fēnix 8 listed on Garmin’s UK site. The fēnix 8 also comes in other sizes and Solar configurations; its display and battery figures vary by version. Check the exact SKU available where you shop rather than applying these figures to the whole fēnix range. Amazfit Balance Ultra specifications · Garmin 47 mm AMOLED specifications

Which display is larger and higher resolution?

Amazfit lists a 1.5-inch, 480 × 480 AMOLED display for the Balance Ultra, with peak brightness up to 3,000 nits. Garmin lists a 1.4-inch, 454 × 454 AMOLED display for the 47 mm fēnix 8. On those listed dimensions, the Balance Ultra is larger and has more pixels. The specifications alone do not establish which screen is easier to read outdoors or looks better in everyday use; peak brightness is not a substitute for a like-for-like visibility test. Do not read these figures as a direct endurance contest: the watches’ modes and usage assumptions are not identical. For your likely runtime, consider whether you use AOD, frequent GPS recording, multi-band reception, music, continuous sensors or connected accessories. Garmin’s 51 mm AMOLED model, for example, has a different smartwatch estimate—up to 29 days in the manufacturer’s 2024 announcement—so the 47 mm figure should not be generalized to every fēnix 8. Do the GPS specifications show which watch is more accurate?

No. Amazfit specifies a dual-band, circularly polarized antenna and support for six satellite systems. Garmin lists multi-band GPS for the 47 mm AMOLED model, and its series announcement describes SatIQ. These are positioning features, not evidence that one watch records more accurate tracks. A valid accuracy comparison would need matching routes, conditions, settings and software, which the cited specifications do not provide.

For navigation, the advertised tools are more useful to compare than an untested accuracy claim. Amazfit lists base and contour maps, ski-resort maps, POI search, route planning, turn-by-turn directions, round-trip routes and auto rerouting. Garmin describes built-in mapping, course syncing, turn-by-turn directions, NextFork Map Guide, and an altimeter, barometer and compass. TopoActive maps are preloaded on Sapphire fēnix 8 models; non-Sapphire versions need map downloads. Map availability and coverage can depend on location and SKU, so verify the maps you need before relying on either watch for a route. Which watch is the better fit for your wrist and phone?

The Balance Ultra has a 51.8 mm case diameter, is 15.5 mm thick including the sensor and weighs 57 g without a strap. Amazfit lists a Grade 5 titanium bezel, frame, buttons and back cover. Its US product page lists Android 8.0+ and iOS 17.0+ compatibility, and says the package includes two 22 mm quick-release straps and a magnetic charging head, but no cable. Amazfit’s size, compatibility and box contents

The fēnix 8 version compared here measures 47 × 47 × 13.8 mm and uses a 22 mm QuickFit band. Bezel and lens materials depend on the SKU; Garmin’s listing specifies stainless steel or titanium bezel options and Gorilla Glass or sapphire lens options. Check the exact model’s dimensions and materials against your wrist and preferences before buying. Garmin’s 47 mm model details

What do the water and dive ratings mean?

Both product listings state 10 ATM water resistance, but a water rating should not be treated as a blanket guarantee for every activity or dive. Amazfit lists freediving and recreational scuba support. Garmin’s launch materials describe dive capability and a 40 m dive-rated case, while its owner manual identifies a 4 ATM dive rating under EN 13319. These are different specifications serving different contexts; for diving, follow the exact-model manual and manufacturer guidance rather than inferring suitability from the consumer water-resistance number alone. How should price affect the decision?

Amazfit’s US product page listed the Balance Ultra at $599.99 when accessed in 2026. Garmin announced fēnix 8 suggested retail prices starting at $999.99 in August 2024; that was launch pricing across the lineup, not a verified current price for the specific 47 mm AMOLED SKU. These figures are from different markets and dates, so they are not a like-for-like current street-price comparison. Check local pricing for the exact models before deciding. Amazfit US product page · Garmin’s 2024 launch announcement

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Balance Ultra if its listed larger, higher-resolution display, battery scenarios, Zepp ecosystem, included straps and local price suit your priorities—and its case size fits your wrist.
  • Choose the 47 mm AMOLED fēnix 8 if Garmin’s mapping, navigation and training features are more important to you, and you prefer its Garmin ecosystem.
  • Compare another fēnix SKU first if you are considering a different case size or Solar model; the display and battery figures here apply specifically to the 47 mm AMOLED version.
  • For either watch, verify the phone compatibility, regional health-feature availability, map coverage, actual AOD and GPS needs, and current local price for the precise SKU.

That is a feature-based choice, not a claim that one watch is more accurate or will last longer in every person’s routine.
