If you want prerecorded podcast episodes to play on YouTube while your computer is off, choose a cloud playout service—not another desktop encoder. StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it loops uploaded videos in the cloud, supports quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. If you mean a live podcast with hosts and guests, use a browser studio or a local production encoder instead; those solve a different problem.
First decide what “always-on” means
There are two different workflows behind “alternatives to OBS for a 24/7 livestream”:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Unattended prerecorded programming: You have episodes or clips ready to play in a continuous YouTube broadcast, without an operator or computer running at home.
- An attended live show: Hosts and guests are recording or broadcasting in real time, with scene changes, guest management, and live production.
An encoder converts video into a format YouTube can stream. YouTube says encoders may be computer software or standalone hardware. That does not mean every encoder can automatically loop a library of prerecorded episodes or recover unattended for days. Match the tool to the workflow, then verify its current duration, playlist, retry, archive, and plan limits.

Best choices for prerecorded 24/7 podcast programming
1. StreamNeo: cloud looping for uploaded videos
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded recordings. Upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. StreamNeo loops the programming in the cloud, so your computer, OBS, and home internet connection do not need to remain on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.

2. Gyre or Upstream: other cloud 24/7 options
YouTube’s verified encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded video and Upstream as a cloud studio for easy 24/7 streaming. Directory inclusion indicates YouTube compatibility, not YouTube endorsement or a guarantee of uptime. Before choosing either, check directly with the provider for playlist and loop behavior, scheduling, stream duration, reconnect handling, archive behavior, plan limits, and availability in your region.

3. Restream: scheduled recordings and playlists
Restream documents scheduled prerecorded streams that can run while you are offline, and its Playlists feature can combine multiple videos into a longer broadcast. Its help center says, “You can even play a series of videos as a single stream with our Playlists feature.” Confirm that the scheduling and playlist behavior fits your intended continuous rotation; do not infer a particular plan limit or uptime guarantee from the feature description.
4. AJA HELO Plus: a dedicated hardware route
YouTube’s directory lists AJA HELO Plus as a standalone hardware encoder. Its description says optional PlayToStream can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The cited description does not establish indefinite looping or automatic rotation through a podcast library, so confirm those exact behaviors before treating it as an always-on playout system.
Better options for an attended live podcast
Browser studios for hosts and guests
If the show is genuinely live, a browser studio is often the closer fit than a cloud playlist service. StreamYard’s guidance focuses on browser-based live shows and guest onboarding. Restream Studio also runs in a browser and supports graphics, video clips, presentations, and guests. These production features do not establish unattended 24/7 prerecorded playout; verify that separately if you need both workflows.

Desktop encoders for hands-on production
OBS, vMix, Wirecast, Streamlabs, and other encoders suit operators who want local control over scenes and production. Restream’s selection guide describes OBS as free, open-source, and cross-platform; Ecamm as Mac-specific; and vMix as a professional production tool. YouTube’s verified software encoder directory includes Wirecast. A local application remains dependent on the computer, power, network, and an arrangement for monitoring and restarting it. Restream lists OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Ecamm among external encoders.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEcamm for Mac-based YouTube production
Ecamm is a Mac broadcasting app with direct YouTube Live support. Its help center lists YouTube Live among its integrations, along with other destinations; that integration list does not establish an unattended cloud service. Check Ecamm’s current system requirements and your production needs before choosing it.

Keep YouTube’s rules and stream setup in view
A continuous broadcast still has to comply with YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements and copyright rules. Only stream podcast audio and video you have rights to use, including music, introductions, clips, and guest contributions. A tool’s ability to play a file does not grant permission to broadcast it. Review YouTube’s current rules and the service’s archive behavior before launching a long-running stream; do not assume that a stream archive, playlist, or reused episode format will be treated a particular way by YouTube.
When configuring an encoder, use the stream key for the intended YouTube broadcast and keep it private. Confirm the selected destination, resolution, frame rate, and audio before going live. Exact bitrate and keyframe settings depend on the encoder, source format, and YouTube’s current guidance; this comparison does not establish one universal preset for every source.
