Its AL-282 platform combines a conventional 44 mm watch with step and sleep tracking, inactivity alerts, coaching, limited notifications and a four-plus-year advertised battery life. In 2026, its hardware remains distinctive, but app compatibility, battery condition and service availability are unresolved risks.
What the Alpina Seastrong Horological Smartwatch is
The Seastrong Horological Smartwatch belongs to Alpina’s AL-282 reference family and was developed around the MMT/Fullpower MotionX platform. It looks like a conventional analog sports watch: there is no touchscreen, digital display, app store, onboard GPS, cellular connection or music player.

Its “smart” functions depend on Bluetooth and a companion phone application. The hands can provide limited status or notification indications, while detailed activity and sleep information is viewed on the phone. Fullpower’s original platform description emphasized this analog approach and cloud-backed tracking: MotionX platform announcement.
Design and build
- 44 mm case, making it a substantial watch, particularly on smaller wrists.
- Sapphire crystal, according to multiple specifications.
- Black dial with luminous hands and markers.
- Rubber strap suited to sport and water use.
- Rotating 60-minute elapsed-time bezel, generally described as unidirectional.
- Reported color variants include black, green, orange and blue or navy combinations.
Case construction is not described consistently. Listings variously identify stainless steel, glass-fibre, composite ABS or combinations of those materials. Check the exact AL-282 suffix, caseback and seller documentation rather than assuming every variant uses the same construction.

- Alpina is pleased to introduce the eco friendly Gyre collection. Featuring limited edition styles of 1883 pieces each, this is a special line from Alpina’s Seastrong Diver collection. The impressive 44mm case is made out recycled materials collected in the ocean’s gyres. The dial and strap are a crystal blue color like the ocean and has bright white markers. This model comes with an additional rubber strap.

What it tracks and how it communicates
Tracking and coaching
The reported feature set includes steps and general activity, sleep monitoring, sleep-cycle alarms, inactivity alerts, adaptive coaching, cloud backup and phone synchronization. It is basic wellness tracking, not a medical or advanced sports platform.
Analog feedback instead of a screen
The hands can signal selected categories or states, but they cannot show message text, charts or a detailed notification. The crown is used to activate or synchronize certain functions. This keeps the dial discreet and watch-like, but means the phone is essential for meaningful data review.
Notifications
Notifications are limited signals rather than readable previews. The watch does not provide the rich message handling, calls, payments, voice assistants or third-party apps found on current screen-based watches.

- The Seastrong Heritage model is inspired by the 1960’s professional diver design, a beautiful re-issue of this historic model. This timepiece features an automatic movement with a 60-minute internal rotating bezel. It also has a textured rubber strap, vintage white and black dial, screw down crown and an engraved caseback to protect the movement from everyday elements.
- 300M water resistant with uni-directional turning 60m diving bezel
- AL-525 Caliber - Automatic Self-wind Movement, 26 jewels, 38 Hours Power Reserve
- 42mm Case Diameter with Polished Stainless Steel Case
- Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal

Battery life: the attraction and the biggest used-buying risk
The original selling point was a claimed battery life of more than four years, avoiding the daily or weekly charging routine of screen-based smartwatches. That figure was an advertised estimate, not a guarantee. Frequent connections and notifications can affect endurance.
A watch manufactured around 2017 may have a depleted cell even if it was rarely worn. “New old stock” means the battery may have sat in the watch for years. Ask for a running demonstration and the battery’s replacement history. A replacement should be performed by a competent watch service provider; the case should be pressure-tested afterward if water use matters.

Is it a dive watch?
It has diver-style hardware: a 60-minute bezel, luminous hands and markers, sapphire crystal and 100 m water resistance. That makes it a water-resistant sports watch with dive-watch design cues, not automatically a professional dive instrument. A 100 m rating is not equivalent to a modern ISO-certified 200 m or 300 m diver.

App and support status in 2026
Alpina still hosts an AL-282 Seastrong smartwatch manual page. That confirms documentation remains available, but it does not prove that the MMT-365 app, cloud backup, notifications or account services are actively supported on current phones.

Alpina’s current U.S. Seastrong collection shows mechanical models rather than the Horological Smartwatch: official Seastrong collection. The watch was designed for iOS and Android at launch, but current operating-system compatibility, app-store availability and reliable synchronization have not been established here. Verify them on your exact phone before buying.
Possible symptoms of an aging ecosystem
- The app cannot be found in the relevant store.
- Pairing fails after a phone operating-system update.
- The watch pairs but will not synchronize.
- Notifications or cloud login no longer work.
- Analog indicators function while historical data is inaccessible.
What it cannot do
- No touchscreen or digital watch face.
- No onboard GPS or independent sports computer.
- No cellular service, music storage, payments or third-party apps.
- No readable message previews.
- No documented ECG, blood-oxygen, heart-rate or comparable modern biometric platform in the cited specifications.
- No evidence that it can operate independently of a compatible phone and companion software.
Buying a used or new-old-stock example
- Get the complete AL-282 reference suffix and photographs of the caseback.
- Ask for a video showing the watch running and its hands responding to a function command.
- Confirm that the companion app can currently be downloaded and paired with your exact iPhone or Android model.
- Ask when the battery was installed or replaced.
- Test the crown, bezel, hands and notification indicators.
- Inspect the sapphire crystal, bezel teeth, crown threads, caseback and rubber strap.
- Require a meaningful return period if app compatibility is uncertain.
- Do not treat the original 100 m specification as proof of present-day water readiness.
- Request the manual, serial/reference documentation and any warranty paperwork.
- Allow for battery service and the possibility that software support may end.
Historical dealer pages are not reliable current-price guides: one listing may show about $595 while another is sold out, and catalog fields can be erroneous. For example, a separate “24 Stunden” field on one listing should not be interpreted as a 24-hour battery claim: dealer listing.

How it compares with current alternatives
Modern screen-based smartwatch
Choose an Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch, Garmin or Fitbit-type product if you need current app support, GPS, richer health and workout features, readable notifications and ongoing software updates. You trade those capabilities for frequent charging and a more visibly electronic design.

Current mechanical Alpina Seastrong
Alpina’s current Seastrong collection includes mechanical models such as the Diver Extreme Automatic and Diver 300 Heritage. They offer a current purchase and conventional brand-support path, but no activity tracking or phone notifications. Prices displayed on the U.S. collection page were approximately $1,995 to $2,795 in August 2026; these are not substitutes for connected functions.
Another hybrid watch
When considering a newer hybrid, check the app-store listing and update history, battery replacement policy, water-resistance service, notification behavior, sensors and whether your data remains usable if the vendor’s cloud service closes.
Who should buy it?
- Good fit: someone who prioritizes analog design, long battery life and basic passive tracking.
- Poor fit: anyone expecting GPS, advanced health data, a readable screen, payments, calls or dependable modern software support.
- Conditional fit: a collector or bargain buyer who verifies pairing, battery condition, serviceability and return rights before payment.
The Bottom Line
The Alpina Seastrong Horological Smartwatch remains an appealing analog hybrid, but in 2026 it is a legacy purchase rather than a current smartwatch. Buy only when the exact watch, battery and phone pairing are demonstrated; otherwise choose a supported modern smartwatch or a current mechanical Seastrong.
