What the choice in All That Is Left actually involves
All That Is Left is a side mission at the Chemical Plant in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Lieutenant Mateus gives the quest, and Professor Zaretskyi contacts you after you collect the Soul artifact. The coupon figures are examples from an undated community-wiki walkthrough, not guaranteed totals. Since another guide says difficulty affects rewards, use the reward shown in your own game rather than treating those amounts as fixed. If you want to preserve Soul as well, the PDA/body route is the reported alternative, but its Ward consequences are not established as clearly as the direct Mateus handoff.
If you want Soul and the most reported rewards
Before making a final handoff, locate the dead soldier’s PDA in the underground area. Then follow Zaretskyi’s request involving the body and an anomaly, and show the PDA to Mateus. Walkthroughs say the two objectives can reward you separately while leaving Soul in your inventory. Treat the order and listed coupon amounts as guide-reported; check that each objective advances in your save.

If you want to use Soul
Keeping Soul avoids handing it to either claimant. A guide reports that it increases Endurance while equipped, with increased radiation as the cost. The sources do not provide numerical values for either effect, so weigh the artifact using its in-game description and your character’s current needs.

How to avoid losing the PDA/body option
- Take the quest from Lieutenant Mateus at the Chemical Plant. Guides place the mission there and describe Mateus as its quest giver. Access may depend on Ward alignment, according to one guide.
- Collect Soul, but do not commit to a final handoff yet. Zaretskyi contacts you after collection; preserve your choice until you have checked the optional objective.
- Search the underground area for the dead soldier’s PDA. Guides identify it as the key optional item for the route that retains Soul.
- Advance Zaretskyi’s body-and-anomaly request, then show Mateus the PDA. Walkthroughs describe this as the sequence that can pay for both tasks while keeping the artifact. Watch for objective updates rather than assuming a step registered.
- Review the in-game reward before accepting. Published guide figures vary in reliability, and one guide specifically says difficulty changes payouts.
What to do if the mission stops progressing
Several completion problems have documented historical fixes. GSC Game World’s Patch 1.0.2 notes, dated March 10, 2025, recorded a fix for a problem completing the mission while exploring the Chemical Plant region: The fixed issue was when a player could not successfully complete the “All That is Left” mission while exploring the Chemical Plant region.
This records a past fix, not proof that every current save is free of bugs.
For the anomaly branch, GSC’s Patch 1.4 notes, dated May 15, 2025, say: Fixed an issue when the All That Is Left mission could not be finished if the player agreed to throw Wardens body into an anomaly.
If that objective fails to advance, confirm the game is updated and check that the body interaction registered before continuing.
Patch 1.1 also fixed an issue where Professor Zaretskyi could not be found after the quest. If you are looking for him after completion, make sure you are not relying on the pre-fix behavior. These notes document fixes in specific versions; they do not promise that every older save or later game state behaves identically.
