To earn both mission achievements in “Following Orders,” search the first house completely before interrogating the civilians, use the nonviolent dialogue sequence, then collect the two notes in the third house. Entering 214 opens the red toolbox, and selecting “Give up the defector. Now.” after the peaceful prompts makes the husband reveal the defector’s location and triggers No Harm Done.
What “Following Orders” is and what you can unlock
“Following Orders” is identified by AllThingsHow (2026) as the third campaign mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. You play as a North Korean soldier searching village homes for a defector. The mission has two collectible-based or choice-based achievements:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- No Harm Done: obtain the defector’s location without hurting a civilian.
- No Stone Unturned: confiscate all four contraband items and read all four notes.
Each achievement is reported as worth 50 Gamerscore on Xbox. The mission contains four notes and four contraband items. Six collectibles are in the first house, none are in the second house, and the final two notes are in the third house.

All eight collectibles and their locations
| House | Collectible | Location |
|---|---|---|
| First | Note From Your Friend | Red toolbox in the first room on the right |
| First | Heart medicine (contraband) | Inside the same red toolbox |
| First | MP3 player (contraband) | Bathroom cabinet, first door on the left |
| First | Western novel (contraband) | Cabinet in the second door on the left |
| First | Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe | Left kitchen cupboard |
| First | Rations (contraband) | Kitchen cabinet beside the recipe |
| Third | Note From Your Neighbor | Bedroom cabinet beside the bed |
| Third | Note From Mom | Wooden shelf inside the kitchen floor hatch |
How to open the red toolbox
You can open the toolbox in either of two ways:
- Shoot the padlock.
- Enter the code 214.
The Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe provides the combination. Read the quantities for flour, water and raisins, skip salt, and the resulting sequence is 2-1-4. The recipe and toolbox are in the first house, so you can solve the code without leaving the opening search area.

First-house route: collect everything before interrogation
Search the first house in this order. Completing this route before speaking to the civilians unlocks the additional interrogation prompts needed for the clean outcome.
- Enter the first room on the right. Open the cupboard, then open the red toolbox by shooting its lock or entering 214. Read Note From Your Friend and confiscate the heart medicine.
- Cross the hall to the bathroom. It is the first doorway on the left. Take the MP3 player from the wall cabinet.
- Search the second door on the left. Confiscate the Western novel from the cabinet.
- Go to the kitchen. Read the Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe in the left cupboard, then take the rations from the adjacent cabinet.
- Start the interrogation only after all four contraband items are collected. The extra prompts about the rations, MP3 player, novel and South Korean medicine then become available.
Dialogue choices for the No Harm Done achievement
The following sequence keeps the interaction nonviolent. Do not choose threats or options that physically harm either civilian.

- MULTIPLAYER BUILT ON CONTROL — Engage in grounded, precise combat where fluid movement, player choice, and refined mechanics give you greater control in every firefight.
- Speak to the wife in the kitchen and choose “Please join your husband.”
- At the next prompt, choose “I will not ask again.” She moves to the living room without force.
- Speak to the husband and choose “Ask about South Korean medicine.” The other contraband prompts—rations, MP3 player and novel—can also be used as long as nobody is harmed.
- At the second option set, choose “Give up the defector. Now.” The husband reveals the defector’s location, and No Harm Done triggers immediately.
Choosing a different nonviolent contraband question does not invalidate the outcome, but threatening or hurting a civilian can prevent the achievement. Clearing the first house first is therefore the safest way to preserve every dialogue option.

The third house bedroom
In the third house, enter the bedroom and read Note From Your Neighbor in the cabinet beside the bed. The note points to food hidden beneath the kitchen floor.
Opening the kitchen floor hatch
- Take the key from the top glass cabinet near the window.
- Use it to unlock the kitchen floor hatch.
- Reveal the hiding woman. You can use GRAB twice, talk her out, or threaten her.
- If speed is your priority, choose GRAB twice, the quickest route reported for this sequence.
- Drop into the cellar and read Note From Mom on the wooden shelf.
When each achievement appears
- No Harm Done appears as soon as the husband gives you the defector’s location after the peaceful interrogation choices.
- After reading Note From Mom, the collectible counter should display NOTES FOUND: 4/4.
- No Stone Unturned appears at that point if you confiscated the heart medicine, MP3 player, Western novel and rations.
Best route by objective
| Objective | Recommended approach | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| No Harm Done | Collect the first-house contraband, use the wife prompts, ask about South Korean medicine, then choose “Give up the defector. Now.” | Threats or physical force against either civilian |
| No Stone Unturned | Collect all four first-house contraband items and all four notes, including both notes in the third house | Leaving the first house before checking the toolbox, bathroom, novel cabinet and kitchen cupboards |
| Both achievements in one run | Complete the first-house sweep, use the nonviolent interrogation sequence, then finish the third-house notes | Starting the interrogation before collecting the contraband |
| Fastest collectible route | Use code 214 for the toolbox and choose GRAB twice at the final hatch | Searching the second house for items it does not contain |
