The Dell Alienware AW3926QW is a 39-inch curved ultrawide OLED that lets you choose between 5120×2160 at 165Hz for sharper detail and 2560×1080 at 330Hz for faster competitive play. That flexibility is its main draw—and its central compromise: the faster mode halves the resolution in both dimensions, while the large glossy screen demands desk space and a powerful gaming PC. It is best suited to buyers who want a spacious, high-refresh OLED and can accommodate its footprint.
What the AW3926QW is
Dell lists the model as the Alienware 39 5K OLED Gaming Monitor – AW3926QW. It is a curved 39-inch, 21:9 OLED—not a conventional 16:9 5K display. Its native resolution is 5120×2160, commonly called 5K2K, and it has a glossy screen. See RTINGS’ model-specific review for its test findings and methodology.

Alienware describes the panel as RGB-stripe tandem OLED, with a 1500R curve, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 and Dolby Vision certification. Those are manufacturer specifications and certifications; they should not be read as a guarantee of any particular brightness or HDR experience in every scene. For response time, Tom’s Guide lists 0.03ms as a specification, not as a result from our testing.

| Mode | Resolution | Refresh rate | Best suited to | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5K2K | 5120×2160 | 165Hz | Detailed games, general use and multitasking | More demanding to drive at high frame rates |
| High refresh | 2560×1080 | 330Hz | Competitive games where motion smoothness matters more than fine detail | Half the pixels in each dimension compared with 5K2K |
The alternate mode is not a small resolution adjustment: it halves both the horizontal and vertical pixel count. That can make it easier for a graphics card to reach very high frame rates, but fine details and text will not look as crisp as they do at native resolution. The 330Hz setting makes most sense for fast competitive games; for visually rich games, desktop work and mixed use, 5120×2160 at 165Hz is the more natural default. Tom’s Guide describes the two-mode setup in its AW3926QW review.

Image quality, text and reflections
The screen’s RGB subpixel arrangement is relevant if you use the monitor for more than games. RTINGS says the Dell’s RGB layout produces less text fringing than the LG 39GX950B-B’s panel arrangement. In RTINGS’ comparison, the Dell also has better bright-color volume, while the LG’s matte coating handles reflections better. The Dell’s glossy surface can make the image appear clearer, but it is less effective at suppressing reflections.
That makes room lighting part of the buying decision. A setup facing a window or bright lamp may expose the glossy finish’s weakness; a controlled room is a better match. Text clarity is also a relative advantage, not a promise that every app, operating system or viewing distance will render text identically.

Tom’s Guide measured 243 nits SDR brightness, 301 nits HDR brightness and 95.1% DCI-P3 coverage in its 2026 test comparison. These are that publication’s measurements, not Dell guarantees. They provide useful context, but they do not establish how the monitor will look in every brightness setting, HDR scene or room.
Will a 39-inch ultrawide fit your desk?
The screen’s width and 1500R curve make it an immersive display, but also a poor fit for some compact desks or shallow setups. Tom’s Guide identifies desk depth and overall size as the product’s main practical drawback. Before buying, check that the desk can accommodate a 39-inch ultrawide and leave enough room to sit at a comfortable distance without turning your head excessively to scan the edges.

- Measure the available desk width and depth, including space for the stand, keyboard and other equipment.
- Consider whether you can move the screen back far enough for comfortable viewing.
- If desk space is tight, check Dell’s official specifications for the mounting interface and supported setup before choosing a monitor arm.
Performance and potential concerns
Driving 5120×2160 at high frame rates puts substantial work on a gaming PC. The monitor’s 330Hz mode can reduce the rendering load by lowering resolution, but only if you accept the visible loss of detail. Your graphics card, game and settings will determine whether you can make practical use of either refresh ceiling; the monitor’s maximum refresh rate does not guarantee that a game will run at that frame rate.
PC Gamer reports that users have raised concerns about green tinting, “vignette dimming” and flicker with adaptive refresh. Its coverage does not establish how prevalent these reports are or whether they affect all units, so treat them as issues to check rather than confirmed defects in every AW3926QW. Firmware and subsequent testing may affect what owners experience. See PC Gamer’s review for its discussion.

How it compares with other ultrawides
| Model | What sets it apart | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Dell Alienware AW3926QW | 39-inch 5K2K OLED with 165Hz native mode and 330Hz lower-resolution mode | Large glossy screen; substantial desk and GPU demands |
| LG 39GX950B-B | Another 39-inch 5K2K OLED | RTINGS finds its matte coating better at handling reflections; RTINGS favors the Dell for text fringing and bright-color volume |
| Alienware AW3426DW | Smaller 34-inch Alienware ultrawide | RTINGS says it handles reflections better and has somewhat higher SDR brightness; the AW3926QW adds DisplayPort 2.1 bandwidth and USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode |
| LG 45GX950A-B | Larger 45-inch 5K2K OLED | RTINGS says the Dell is sharper at the same resolution because its panel is smaller, and compares its RGB layout favorably for text |
These comparisons reflect RTINGS’ review findings, not a guarantee that one model will suit every desk or lighting setup. Current prices, stock and warranty terms are not established here; check the seller and manufacturer for your region before deciding.
Who should buy the AW3926QW?
- Consider it if you want a large, detailed ultrawide for both gaming and desktop work, have enough desk depth, and value a choice between native-resolution gaming and an exceptionally high refresh ceiling.
- Look elsewhere if your desk is shallow, reflections are difficult to control, or you prefer a smaller display. A matte alternative may be a better fit for a bright room; a 34-inch ultrawide may be easier to accommodate.
- Check carefully before purchase if you expect to use adaptive refresh or are sensitive to possible tint or dimming behavior. The user concerns reported by PC Gamer do not establish how often those issues occur.
