Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 on Xbox: A Bigger Bug Hunt, Not a Reinvention

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is worth considering on Xbox Series X|S if you want more squad-based Xenomorph combat and a four-player team, but it does not appear to be a major break from the first game. Reviews praise its frantic fights, atmosphere and character customization while flagging repetition and technical rough edges. The main caveat for Xbox buyers: detailed frame-rate and stability criticism in other reviews came from PS5 and PC, not Xbox testing.

What is new compared with the first game?

The clearest change is squad size: the sequel supports online co-op for two to four players, expanding the team from three in the original. It also adds Specialist, a fully customizable class, alongside five other classes. That gives returning players more room to build a role for a squad without changing the game’s basic premise: a cooperative third-person shooter in which Colonial Marines fight Xenomorphs, synthetics and other threats.

Reviews describe a familiar combat loop rather than a reinvention. GameSpew praised the frenetic combat, enemy variety and Specialist builds, but called the formula familiar. WorthPlaying likewise found only modest changes from the first game in its PC review. For existing fans, the appeal is more squad combat with added flexibility; anyone hoping for a substantially different kind of shooter may find the sequel conservative.

How good is the campaign and its replay value?

GamesRadar+ describes a 15-mission campaign with an atmospheric setting but an unremarkable story. GameSpew also found the story disappointing. TheXboxHub, reviewing the Xbox version, praised the tense, ammo-constrained shooting, recognizable sound design and satisfying alien combat.

Aliens Fireteam Elite - Xbox
  • Play a pivotal role in the epic events that occur 23 years after the original alien Trilogy as a colonial Marine. Stunning visuals, iconic enemies, realistic environments, powerful weapons, and an eerie soundscape fill out new storylines.
  • Face overwhelming odds against over 20 enemy types. Each Designed with their own intelligence to ambush and outsmart Marines. Utilize cover and master team strategy to survive extraterrestrial threats as they overrun your Fire team from every angle.
  • Choose from five unique classes - gunner, demolisher, technician, Doc and Recon - each with their own special abilities and character perks. Utilize an extensive arsenal of 30+ weapons and 70+ mods/attachments in your effort to eradicate the alien threat.

Horde mode offers another reason to play: TheXboxHub describes rounds built around five waves, while GamesRadar+ sees the mode as a possible replay draw. But reviews differ on how much the game motivates you to return after finishing the campaign. WorthPlaying’s PC review found limited post-campaign motivation; TheXboxHub was more positive about Horde and customization. That makes replay value a less certain selling point than the core co-op action.

What do reviews say about Xbox performance?

TheXboxHub is the Xbox-focused review among the cited coverage. Its reviewer reported character and cosmetic glitches, enemies clipping through the environment, and repetitive character lines. The reviewer also found matchmaking readily available at the time of review. Those observations are one reviewer’s experience, not a broad performance test.

Other technical reports should not be mistaken for Xbox measurements. GamesRadar+ reviewed the PS5 version and reported unreliable frame rates and intermittent item or corpse bugs. GameSpew also reviewed PS5 and described online stuttering and frame-rate drops. WorthPlaying’s PC review reported crashes, slow match establishment and a reconnect system that failed in the reviewer’s experience. These reports raise questions about polish, but they do not establish Xbox Series X|S frame rate, resolution or current patch status.

Verdict: who is it for?

This is the more appealing purchase for an existing fan who wants a larger squad, more class customization and another round of Alien-universe firefights. Its four-player co-op and Specialist class are meaningful additions, but the familiar formula, mixed views on campaign replay value and reports of technical problems temper the upgrade case. On Xbox specifically, the evidence supports a cautious recommendation rather than a performance verdict: the Xbox-focused review reported glitches, while the more detailed frame-rate concerns came from PS5 and PC reviews.
