Its cards are adventure tools: you drag action and item cards onto places, characters, and obstacles to investigate, craft, solve environmental puzzles, and advance the story. The game also lets Alice challenge some NPCs to a card game, but the available official description does not define that activity as a standard deck-building combat system.
Think of each card as a possible response to something in the world. Search thoroughly, keep clues and materials organized, test cards on thematically related targets, and revisit blocked areas after your inventory changes.

What Alice Nation actually is
Alice Nation is a solo, tabletop-style narrative adventure developed by Hanamiriro and published by 2P Games. Alice is trapped in the Beyond, a fairy-tale world built from cards. Progress comes from exploring that world and using cards to interact with its contents rather than from assembling a competitive deck and fighting through a sequence of conventional battles.
The official store description summarizes the core loop as dragging action and item cards onto locations and characters to explore, interact, and solve puzzles. That wording matters: a card is generally an interface for an action, clue, or object in the environment. It is not automatically a unit, attack, defense value, or resource with a mana cost.

The Steam page also says that Alice can challenge NPCs to a card game along the way. It does not publish a ruleset that would establish deck lists, card limits, archetypes, a turn structure, or a collectible-card-game progression system. Until an official rules update says otherwise, describe those encounters as NPC card-game challenges inside a card-driven adventure.
The four useful card categories
The game’s cards become easier to understand when you sort them by the job they perform. The categories below describe their documented roles, not a combat taxonomy.
| Card or resource | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Action cards | Enable direct interactions during exploration and can be required for story advancement. | Drag one onto a relevant character, object, or location and read the resulting response. |
| Item cards | Apply to compatible targets and obstacles; some are gated by a prerequisite clue. | Use the item where its practical or thematic connection makes sense. If it is rejected, look for the missing clue or a different target. |
| Crafting materials | Ingredients found while searching that can be converted into utility tools. | Collect them instead of spending every resource immediately, then craft when a blocked route or puzzle suggests a tool is needed. |
| Clues and signal objects | Support investigations, scans, route discovery, and case progression. | Keep track of where each clue came from and what it describes; compare it with the active objective. |
A practical beginner rule is “match the card to the situation.” A lantern-like object, a locked container, a suspicious character, and a search area each imply different kinds of interaction. The game may require a particular sequence, so a failed attempt is information about the order or prerequisite rather than proof that the card is useless.
How card interactions work, step by step
- Inspect the scene before choosing a card. Search the room, path, container, and unusual environmental details. Note anything that looks out of place, blocked, incomplete, or connected to the current objective.
- Identify the target. Select the character, location, object, or obstacle that appears to accept an interaction. A card may be valid only for a compatible target.
- Try the most direct thematic match. Drag an action or item card onto the target. The game’s response tells you whether the match worked, whether a prerequisite is missing, or whether the sequence is wrong.
- Read the feedback completely. Do not immediately retry every card. A response can reveal a clue, name a needed object, identify a route, or imply that another interaction must happen first.
- Record partial progress. If the target reacts but does not resolve, treat that as a lead. Keep the location and the card combination in your notes so you can return after crafting or finding another card.
- Change one variable at a time. On the next attempt, alter only the card, target, or order. Isolating one change makes it clear which discovery opened the puzzle.
- Revisit after inventory changes. A new action card, utility tool, or clue can turn an earlier dead end into a solvable interaction.
This process is closer to investigating a physical tabletop puzzle than to selecting an attack from a hotbar. You are learning the world’s vocabulary: which objects belong together, which clues unlock an item, and which order the story expects.
What to do during the first hour
The opening sequence rewards careful coverage more than speed. Use this checklist whenever a new area opens.
- Search every accessible space. Check rooms, paths, containers, corners, and unusual environmental details before advancing the obvious objective. A missed material or clue can make a later interaction appear impossible.
- Keep a blocked-route list. Write down doors, paths, characters, or objects that currently cannot be resolved. Treat a blocked route as a future task, not as a failed run.
- Maintain a reserve. Do not convert every material or expend every useful card as soon as you obtain it. A flexible reserve gives you options when a later obstacle calls for a utility tool.
- Group clues by origin and subject. Note where a clue was found and what it describes. When the active objective changes, compare it with the evidence already collected rather than searching randomly.
- Use controlled experiments. If a puzzle rejects an interaction, change one variable and read the new feedback. Randomly throwing every card at every object creates noise and can hide the meaningful hint.
- Return to unresolved locations. After you craft an item or gain a new card, revisit the places on your blocked-route list. The game’s opening guidance specifically supports this revisit pattern.
A compact note format works well: location, visible obstacle, cards tried, response, suspected prerequisite, and next revisit trigger. That prevents you from repeating the same experiment and preserves the connection between a clue and the place where you found it.
How to handle blocked routes
Blocked routes are part of Alice Nation’s progression structure. The game may withhold the action, item, clue, or crafted tool that makes a route usable until you investigate elsewhere. Instead of repeatedly forcing the same interaction, follow a structured recovery path.

1. Capture the exact obstruction
Record whether the route is a locked container, an inaccessible path, an unresponsive character, a missing signal, or an object that accepts a card but does not complete. These are different states and may require different prerequisites.
2. Sweep nearby areas again
Search every accessible room, path, and container around the obstruction. Pay special attention to environmental details that looked decorative on the first pass. Clues and materials can be easy to overlook when you are focused on the blocked endpoint.
3. Compare the objective with your evidence
Group the clues you have by where they were found and what they describe. A clue from another location may explain the blocked route, identify a signal object, or establish the order of interactions needed to proceed.
4. Check crafting options
If you have collected materials, see whether they can become a utility tool. Do not assume that every material should be consumed immediately; preserve alternatives if the game has not made the intended use clear.
5. Test the new card or tool at the original site
Return to the obstruction and try the newly acquired resource. If it still fails, read the response and update your notes rather than discarding the lead. Some item cards require a prerequisite clue before they function.
Crafting, materials, and utility tools
Crafting materials are found through searching and are converted into tools that help with exploration and puzzles. Their value is situational: a material that has no obvious use in the current room may be exactly what opens a route later.
Use a conservative resource policy:
- Collect materials whenever the area allows it.
- Keep a reserve until the active objective or a blocked route suggests a clear tool.
- When crafting is available, note which materials were consumed and what new interaction the tool enables.
- Return to earlier locations after crafting; a tool can change the meaning of an old obstacle.
The available guidance does not publish a complete recipe list, inventory cap, or universal crafting priority. Avoid treating an unlisted recipe, capacity, or “best build” as established information. The reliable decision is contextual: craft when the resulting tool answers a documented obstacle, and keep enough flexibility for the next unexplained interaction.

Investigations, clues, and signal objects
Clues and signal objects support scans, investigations, route discovery, and case progression. They are not merely collectibles to clear from an inventory. Their meaning depends on both the place where they were found and the subject they describe.

For each clue, note its origin, the person or object it refers to, and any action it appears to imply. This lets you distinguish evidence that belongs to the current case from information that may matter after a later route opens.
Use the active objective as a filter
When several clues are available, compare them with the current objective. Test the clue whose subject and location most closely match the objective before trying unrelated cards. A failed test can still identify a prerequisite or the correct sequence.
Recognize signal objects as progression tools
Signal objects can support scans and route discovery. If a route appears to depend on a signal, search for the relevant object or clue rather than repeatedly applying ordinary item cards to the endpoint.
How the NPC card games fit in
Some NPCs can challenge Alice to a card game. This is the source of the “card combat” expectation, but the official material available for this guide does not define the rules as a conventional player-built combat system.

- Finish nearby exploration before accepting a challenge if you still have unsolved clues or containers.
- Read the NPC’s dialogue and the game’s on-screen instructions carefully; those are the authoritative rules for that encounter.
- Do not assume that an item card used in exploration has the same function in an NPC card game.
- If the encounter does not resolve as expected, record the exact prompt and response and continue investigating the surrounding story rather than rebuilding an imaginary deck.
Later official documentation could expand these encounters. Until then, the defensible description is “card-game challenges against NPCs,” not “a full collectible-card-game combat mode.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you build a deck in Alice Nation?
The documented answer is not established. The official store description explains card-based exploration and mentions NPC card games, but it does not state that players construct, edit, collect, or optimize a personal deck. It also does not provide card limits, rarity, draw rules, resource costs, or a standard combat loop.
For a first playthrough, do not spend time looking for a deck editor or planning a metagame unless the game presents one directly. Organize your thinking around functional resources instead: action cards for interactions, item cards for compatible targets, materials for utility tools, and clues or signal objects for investigations and route discovery.
This distinction prevents a common mistake. A card can be important without being a combat card, and a card-game challenge can exist without turning the entire title into a deck-building battler. Alice Nation’s documented center of gravity is narrative exploration and environmental problem solving.
Common beginner mistakes and fixes
Advancing before searching
Symptom: You reach an objective without the clue or material that makes it solvable.
Fix: Sweep every accessible room, path, container, and unusual detail before moving on.
Spending every resource immediately
Symptom: A later obstacle appears to require an item you no longer have materials to craft.
Fix: Keep a flexible reserve and craft when the target and purpose are clear.

Forgetting old locations
Symptom: You assume an earlier dead end is permanent.
Fix: Revisit it after gaining a card, clue, or crafted tool.
Assuming every card is for combat
Symptom: You search for attack values or deck synergies that the interface never presents.
Fix: Treat cards first as context-sensitive adventure actions; reserve combat assumptions for an NPC challenge that explicitly teaches them.
Release status and what may change
Alice Nation released on Steam on October 15, 2026. The developer is Hanamiriro and the publisher is 2P Games. The Steam listing identifies single-player support, achievements, cloud saves, and Steam Trading Cards.

That price is volatile and can change by region, promotion, or date, so check the live store page before purchasing rather than treating the observed figure as permanent.
Steam Community patch notes showed versions 1.0.8 and 1.0.7 in October 2026. Because the game is receiving early updates, interface wording and implementation details can change. If a card behaves differently from the steps above, check the current in-game prompt and the latest patch notes before assuming your save or puzzle is broken.
Is Alice Nation a card battler or a puzzle game?
It is best understood as a card-driven narrative adventure with environmental puzzles and occasional NPC card-game challenges. The card layer determines how Alice examines people and places, applies items, gathers evidence, and creates tools. The puzzle layer determines which card belongs with which target and in what order. The NPC activity adds card-game encounters without, on the documented evidence, turning the title into a conventional deck-building combat game.
If you want a story-focused adventure where cards are part of the world’s interaction language, that description matches the documented design. If you are specifically looking for deck construction, published card pools, combat statistics, and optimization systems, those features are not established by the available official information.
