Alibaba began selling its Quark AI Glasses in China on November 27, 2025, moving from preview to retail as it challenges Meta’s Ray-Ban smart-glasses range. The launch positions Alibaba’s glasses around Qwen and Quark multimodal AI, Alipay and Taobao services, and China-focused features rather than around a proven performance advantage.
What Alibaba launched
Quark AI Glasses are camera-and-audio smart glasses that connect to Alibaba’s Qwen App and Quark multimodal AI. Alibaba’s prelaunch description lists hands-free calls, music streaming, real-time translation, meeting transcription, Amap navigation, Alipay functions, Taobao price comparison and Fliggy travel alerts.

Those functions are Alibaba’s stated capabilities, not results from an independent performance test. Their practical value will also depend on account access, network connectivity, supported languages and availability of each Alibaba service in the user’s region.

Alibaba vice-president Wu Jia described AI glasses as “the intelligent devices that truly usher in a revolution in human-computer interaction in the AI era.” That is launch-stage promotional language, not evidence that Quark outperforms competing products.

S1 and G1: the two launch tiers
Launch coverage identified S1 and G1 families, with three variants of each reported by Engadget. The S1 is the display-equipped tier; G1 is the lighter design without the S1’s in-lens display.
| Model | Reported characteristics | Launch price in China |
|---|---|---|
| S1 | Translucent displays, cameras, bone-conduction microphones and swappable batteries rated by Bloomberg for up to 24 hours | From ¥3,799 |
| G1 | Lighter, display-free design with camera, audio, voice and touch controls reported during launch coverage | From ¥1,899 |
Alibaba’s launch materials do not provide a complete official specification sheet, so details such as camera resolution, storage, charging time, display brightness, water resistance and the exact battery conditions behind the 24-hour figure remain unstated. Engadget’s variant count and feature descriptions are launch-period reporting; current stock-keeping-unit names should be checked before treating this as a buying guide.
How Quark’s pitch differs from ordinary camera glasses
Display and hands-free information
The reported translucent display gives S1 a capability that display-free camera glasses do not have: information can appear in the wearer’s view instead of being relayed only through audio or a phone. G1’s lighter construction may appeal to users who prefer conventional-looking frames and do not need an in-lens display.
Alibaba services built into the experience
Alibaba is emphasizing local services as much as hardware. The company lists Taobao price comparison, Alipay-related actions, Amap directions and Fliggy travel alerts alongside translation and transcription. This integration is most relevant to people who already use Alibaba’s Chinese services; it does not establish equivalent support for accounts, merchants or languages elsewhere.

Voice and touch controls
Engadget reported voice and touch controls and connection to the Qwen App. Public launch information does not establish latency, recognition accuracy, privacy settings or how much processing occurs on the glasses versus in the cloud.
Availability, price and support
The verified retail launch was in China on November 27, 2025. Bloomberg reported S1 pricing from ¥3,799, while Engadget reported the same starting price for S1 and ¥1,899 for G1. These are China launch prices, not US retail prices; currency conversions in coverage should not be read as local pricing.
The available launch sources do not establish authorized sales outside China, international warranty coverage, official repair channels, language support beyond the supported Chinese-market experience or current marketplace inventory. An import listing therefore cannot be treated as an official international release. Buyers outside China should verify seller authorization, return rights, app-region compatibility, cellular or Wi-Fi requirements and after-sales service before paying.
Quark AI Glasses versus Ray-Ban Meta
Meta is the relevant incumbent in this category. Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 in September 2025 and said the range had sold millions of units since launch. Meta also introduced additional styles and an audio-only glasses line in September 2026. The sales figure and Meta’s claim that Ray-Ban Meta became the world’s number-one-selling AI glasses are company-reported statements, not an independently audited market ranking.

| Comparison point | Quark AI Glasses | Ray-Ban Meta context |
|---|---|---|
| In-lens display | S1 was reported with a translucent display; G1 was positioned as the lighter display-free tier | Launch-era material here does not establish a display for the compared Ray-Ban Meta models |
| AI and media | Qwen/Quark functions, translation, transcription, calls, music, navigation and Alibaba service actions listed by Alibaba | Meta’s Gen 2 and later product announcements establish an expanding AI-glasses lineup, but no controlled feature test is available here |
| Ecosystem | Deep integration with Alipay, Taobao, Amap and Fliggy is central to the China launch pitch | Service access depends on Meta’s supported markets, apps and languages |
| Battery design | Bloomberg reported swappable batteries and up to 24 hours for S1; test conditions were not supplied | No directly comparable runtime figure is established here |
| Price and market | China launch prices: S1 from ¥3,799; G1 from ¥1,899 | Current local pricing varies by market and is not specified in Alibaba’s launch materials |
| Warranty and support | International authorization and support are not established | Availability and support depend on the buyer’s market and official distribution |
The comparison shows different priorities rather than a confirmed winner: Alibaba is using China-specific commerce and travel integrations, while Meta has the longer-established global product presence described in its own announcements. No controlled side-by-side test is available to prove which glasses have better cameras, microphones, AI answers or battery life.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not confuse Quark with the later Qwen Glasses
Alibaba subsequently announced a separate Qwen Glasses line in 2026, including S1 and G1 variants, China preorders and official sales beginning March 8. That announcement should not be merged with the November 2025 Quark AI Glasses launch. Product names, specifications and availability for the later line require separate confirmation.
What prospective buyers should verify
- Whether the seller is an authorized China distributor and provides a valid local warranty.
- Whether the Qwen App and required Alibaba accounts can be used from the buyer’s country.
- Which languages are supported for translation, transcription and voice control.
- Whether the chosen S1 or G1 variant is actually in stock and includes the required battery and charging accessories.
- How returns, repairs, software updates and data controls work before importing.
The Bottom Line
Quark AI Glasses are a real China retail launch, not merely a prototype, but their strongest case is Alibaba’s tightly integrated Chinese services. S1’s reported display and swappable-battery design distinguish it from the lighter G1, while international availability, support and independent performance comparisons remain unconfirmed.
