Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →No: a Samsung phone cannot pair with or manage an Apple AirTag as its owner. AirTag setup and ownership run through Apple’s Find My network. A Samsung phone can still detect an unknown AirTag for safety, and an NFC-capable phone may show limited information if you find an AirTag marked as lost. For tracking your own belongings from a Galaxy phone, choose a tracker designed for Samsung’s SmartThings Find or Google’s Find Hub instead.
Can you connect an AirTag to a Samsung phone?
No. Apple’s setup instructions add an AirTag to the owner’s Apple Account through the Find My app; they do not provide a Samsung or Android pairing path. Apple’s AirTag setup guide describes registering the tag in Find My, so detecting an AirTag on Android should not be confused with owning or managing it.

Installing an Android app does not turn a Samsung phone into an AirTag owner device. Android’s AirTag-related features are for unwanted-tracker safety or limited interaction with a found tag—not setup, ongoing location tracking, or access to the owner’s Find My controls.

Receive unwanted-tracker alerts
Google says unknown-tracker alerts currently work with Apple AirTags as well as compatible Find Hub tags and headphones. If Android determines an unknown tracker is traveling with you, it can alert you and offer options to view a map, play a sound, locate the tracker, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to disable it. Google’s instructions for finding unknown trackers explain the alert steps.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Automated alerts require Location to be on. Google says alert information—including location, timestamps, and tracker ID—is temporarily stored encrypted on the device and is not shared with Google or other users.
Run a manual scan
On supported Android settings, open Settings → Safety & emergency → Unknown tracker alerts → Scan now. Google says the scan takes about 10 seconds and looks for trackers nearby that are separated from their owners. A scan result by itself does not prove that a tracker has been following you; it may belong to someone nearby or be temporarily separated from its owner. Google’s unknown-tracker guidance covers manual scans.

On Android 11 and later, manual scanning does not require Location. On Android 10 and earlier, it uses Location and Bluetooth. These are Android-level instructions; menu labels and availability may vary with a Samsung phone’s software version.

Read limited information from a found AirTag
If you find an AirTag, an NFC-capable Samsung phone may be able to read identifying or lost-mode information by holding the phone near the tag. Apple says an Android phone can check whether the owner marked the AirTag as lost. This can help with returning an item, but it does not pair the tag with your phone or give you ongoing location access. Apple’s Personal Safety guide explains what to do with an unwanted or found tracker.

What to do if an AirTag alert appears
- Open the alert and review its map and the information shown about the tracker.
- Use the option to play a sound or locate the AirTag if available, then follow the on-screen steps to find it.
- If you locate the tracker and need to stop it, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to disable the AirTag itself. Turning off Bluetooth or Location, or enabling Airplane Mode, does not prevent the tag’s owner from locating the tracker.
Apple and Google announced cross-platform unwanted-tracker alerts in 2024. Apple described alerts for an unknown Bluetooth tracker seen moving with someone over time, regardless of the platform with which the tracker was paired. Apple’s announcement describes that safety effort.
Which tracker should a Samsung user choose?
| Tracker | Can a Samsung phone register and manage it? | Finding ecosystem | Key compatibility notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple AirTag | No; setup and owner management use Apple Find My and an Apple Account. | Apple Find My | Android can provide unknown-tracker safety alerts and limited NFC lost-item information, not owner tracking. |
| Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 | Yes, through SmartThings on supported Samsung phones. | SmartThings Find | Samsung says supported Samsung mobile devices need Android 9.0 or later and Find My Mobile support; features may vary by phone and software version. |
| Find Hub-compatible tracker | Check the specific tag and phone compatibility. | Google Find Hub | Google lists compatible products, but availability, features, and specifications vary by region, carrier, and device. |
For a Galaxy phone: Galaxy SmartTag2
Samsung’s SmartTag2 setup uses SmartThings and requires a Samsung account. Samsung says SmartThings Find is available on supported Samsung phones running Android 9.0 or later that support Find My Mobile. Why an AirTag can appear on Android without being compatible
Android’s unknown-tracker feature exists to help people identify trackers that may be traveling with them; it does not make the phone part of the AirTag’s owner setup. Likewise, NFC is a narrow way to read information from a found tag, not a substitute for Find My. The distinction is practical: a Samsung phone can help you notice or identify certain AirTags, but it cannot use one as its own everyday item tracker.
