AirPods vs. Galaxy Buds: Which Should You Use with a Samsung Phone?

For a Samsung phone, Galaxy Buds are the better starting point if you want Samsung-specific features and deeper phone integration. AirPods also pair with Samsung phones over Bluetooth, so they remain a workable choice—especially if you already own them or use other Apple devices—but pairing does not bring Apple’s ecosystem features to Android. The right pick depends on the exact earbuds, phone, software version, and features you care about.

Can you use AirPods with a Samsung phone?

Yes. Apple provides Bluetooth pairing instructions for connecting AirPods to non-Apple devices, including Android phones. Follow Apple’s instructions for pairing AirPods with a non-Apple device; the connection lets you use them as Bluetooth earbuds.

That basic compatibility should not be confused with full Apple-device integration. Apple’s pairing guidance establishes how to connect, not that every Apple feature or control will be available on a Samsung phone. Support for additional controls or apps depends on the AirPods generation and the Android software and apps involved, so check the particular model before buying for a feature you consider essential.

Do Galaxy Buds work only with Samsung phones?

No. Samsung documents Galaxy Buds as Bluetooth audio devices that can connect across operating systems. Basic Bluetooth listening and the more advanced configuration options are separate: available settings can depend on the model, a compatible Android device, the Galaxy Wearable app, or supported phone software. See Samsung’s Galaxy earbuds connection and compatibility guidance for device and app pathways.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro (2026) AI True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds, Black | Hi-Res Audio, 2-Way Speaker, ANC 2.0, Optimized Comfort, IP57, Live Translation [US Version, 2 Yr Warranty]
  • EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO: Catch details like never before. Designed with a High-Res Audio¹ 24-bit hi-fi codec, the latest Galaxy earbuds maintain the integrity of your favorite audio over Bluetooth.
  • TWO-WAY SPEAKER: Enjoy every audio experience to the fullest with two speakers in both Buds, including a tweeter for rich highs and a woofer for deep, full lows.
  • HD VOICE: Enjoy clear phone calls with Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Galaxy S26 Series² —they work together to deliver crisp and clear conversations.
  • ANC 2.0: Wherever you go, Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation 2.0³ intelligently adapts in real time to provide stronger, smoother noise cancellation wherever you go.
  • OPTIMIZED COMFORT: Enjoy that just-right fit, with an improved, ear-hugging design and changeable ear tips.

Samsung’s February 26, 2026 announcement for the Galaxy Buds4 series makes those qualifications concrete: it says advanced Galaxy Wearable settings require Android 10 or later and at least 1.5 GB of memory, and that AI features require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone. These are requirements stated for the relevant Buds4 features, not a blanket guarantee that every Galaxy Buds model has the same features or requirements. Check the support information for the exact model and market before relying on a particular capability. Samsung’s announcement also identifies codecs for the Buds4 series; codec support alone does not establish that one product will sound better to you than another. Choose Galaxy Buds if Samsung integration is the priority

If you want features designed to work with a Samsung phone, Galaxy Buds are the natural first choice. Samsung documents model-specific Galaxy functions and software requirements, so verify that your phone and the Buds model support the feature you want rather than assuming every combination qualifies.

Keep or choose AirPods if your devices are mostly Apple

If you already own AirPods or regularly use Apple devices, continuing to use them with your Samsung phone may be more practical than replacing them solely for basic listening. The trade-off is that Bluetooth pairing is not the same as Apple ecosystem integration on Samsung.

Compare exact models for sound, fit, and price

Compatibility information cannot establish a universal winner for sound quality, comfort, active noise cancellation, call quality, battery life, durability, or value. Those comparisons require current, model-specific evidence. Compare the particular AirPods and Galaxy Buds versions you are considering, and check current local listings rather than inferring performance or price from the brand.

What to check before buying

  • Your exact phone and software: Confirm its Android version and, for Samsung-specific features, whether Samsung lists it as compatible.
  • The exact earbuds generation: Feature support and requirements can differ within each product family; do not apply a Buds4 requirement or feature to older Galaxy Buds, or assume every AirPods generation behaves identically.
  • The feature you actually need: Separate basic Bluetooth audio from advanced app settings, AI features, and ecosystem integrations. Confirm that the named feature is supported by both the earbuds and your phone.
  • Your other devices: If Apple devices are central to your daily use, that may make AirPods more convenient overall; if your setup is Samsung-first, Galaxy Buds are the more direct ecosystem fit.
  • Personal and model-specific priorities: Try the fit where possible and compare independently verified testing and current prices for the specific models. Compatibility documentation does not answer those questions.
