AirPods Pro and AirPods Max can play audio on a Windows PC over Bluetooth, but pairing them does not bring Apple’s full settings and device-management features to Windows. You can still switch supported listening modes with the headphones’ physical controls; for pairing or sound problems, start with Windows Bluetooth settings and the PC’s Bluetooth driver.
Which AirPods features work on Windows?
Windows treats AirPods as Bluetooth audio devices. After pairing, ordinary playback and basic headset behavior may work, but Microsoft’s Bluetooth guidance does not provide an Apple-specific settings panel or promise feature parity. What is available can depend on the AirPods model, firmware, PC radio and drivers, and Windows version.

The most reliable way to change supported listening modes while audio comes from a Windows PC is to use the headset’s physical control. Apple’s instructions describe these controls; the available modes and cycle depend on the model and settings configured on an Apple device.

AirPods Pro
Press and hold the force sensor on either stem to switch listening modes. On an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can choose which modes are included in that control’s cycle. See Apple’s instructions for switching listening modes on AirPods.
AirPods Max
Press the listening mode button to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency. Apple also documents configuring the modes included in the button cycle from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. The controls do not mean Windows exposes Adaptive Audio or every other Apple listening feature; see Apple’s AirPods Max listening-mode instructions.

Fix AirPods that pair but have no sound or keep disconnecting
Work through these checks in order. Menu wording can vary slightly by Windows release.

Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices in Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices in Windows 10. Not every PC has built-in Bluetooth; if the setting is missing, check the PC specifications or use a compatible radio.
- Check charge and range. Charge the AirPods and keep them close to the PC while troubleshooting.
- Remove the old pairing and pair again. In the Windows Bluetooth device list, select the AirPods and choose Remove device or Forget. Put the AirPods into pairing mode according to Apple’s instructions for that model, then add them again from the Bluetooth settings page.
- Update the PC’s Bluetooth driver. Open Device Manager, expand Bluetooth, right-click the Bluetooth adapter, and choose Update driver. If Windows reports that the best driver is already installed, check the PC maker’s support site for a current driver for your exact model.
- Run Windows’ Bluetooth troubleshooter. Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters in Windows 11 and run the Bluetooth troubleshooter if listed. For Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot and follow the available Bluetooth troubleshooting prompts. For a connected device with no audio, follow Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance.
If the issue appears after the PC wakes from sleep, disconnect and reconnect the AirPods, then check the adapter driver. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes; the cause may be the PC’s radio, driver, or audio configuration.

Would a USB Bluetooth adapter restore missing features?
Only consider an adapter when the PC has no Bluetooth or its existing radio is not working. Check that the adapter maker supports your Windows version and provides suitable drivers. An adapter may provide a Bluetooth connection, but it does not add Apple’s proprietary settings or guarantee extra AirPods functions.
Does Windows LE Audio add AirPods features?
Not by itself. Microsoft’s LE Audio requirements specify Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer, compatible Bluetooth LE hardware and audio codec support, and capable manufacturer drivers for both the radio and audio codec. The presence of Bluetooth LE branding alone does not establish compatibility. Microsoft says LE Audio is not supported on Windows 10 or Windows 11 version 21H2. If the Use LE Audio when available setting is absent, Microsoft says the PC currently does not support LE Audio, potentially because of hardware or driver limitations. Can a Windows app add battery status or controls?
Possibly, but check the current app listing before relying on its features. An AppleToolBox article updated September 11, 2026, describes MagicPods as a Microsoft Store app that reports AirPods and case battery levels, offers ear detection and audio-latency options, and can switch supported noise-control modes using a MagicAAP driver. That article also reports a one-time price of USD 2; the price and feature claims have not been confirmed against the live listing, and supported models, privacy details, and availability may change. Check the current Microsoft Store listing for its terms and compatibility, and do not assume any app restores every Apple feature.
Windows 10 support status
Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. PCs running it continue to work, but Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Bluetooth troubleshooting may still help with a connection issue, but it does not change that support status.
