If AirPods show as connected to a Samsung Galaxy phone but you hear nothing, first check the AirPods’ Bluetooth settings and make sure Audio is enabled. Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, tap the settings icon beside the AirPods, and turn on Audio. If calls are silent too, check Calls. A Bluetooth connection alone does not confirm that the phone is routing sound to the AirPods.
1. Enable audio for the AirPods in Bluetooth settings
On the Galaxy phone, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Tap the gear or settings icon beside the connected AirPods and check that Audio is switched on. If phone calls are not audible through the AirPods, enable Calls as well. Samsung notes that sound can play through the phone or tablet speaker when the relevant headphone audio setting is disabled. 2. Check media volume and phone-wide mute settings
Raise media volume
Press a volume button and, if available, expand the volume controls. Raise Media volume; changing ringtone or call volume may not restore music or video sound. Try a clip in another app so you can tell whether the issue is limited to one app or audio source.

If the Galaxy is silent from other outputs too, open Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements > Mute all sounds and turn it off if enabled. If only calls or notifications are affected, check whether Do not disturb is on. Menu paths may differ by model or software version. Samsung lists these as separate checks from Bluetooth audio routing in its Galaxy no-sound troubleshooting guide.

3. Find out whether the fault follows the AirPods or the Galaxy
Use two quick comparisons:
- Connect the AirPods to another phone or computer and play audio.
- Connect a different Bluetooth headset to the Samsung phone and play audio.
If the AirPods are silent on another device too, the problem is more likely with the AirPods. If another headset also fails on the Galaxy, focus on the phone’s settings or Bluetooth connection. If only one app, media type, or calls fail, note which audio path is affected; that narrows the next check. Samsung recommends testing across devices to help isolate the source of a headphone problem (Samsung support).
4. Check connection conditions and restart the phone
Keep the AirPods and Galaxy close while testing, move away from possible sources of interference, and remove accessories that could interfere with the connection. Samsung gives 30 feet as a general distance check, not a guaranteed range; the useful distance can vary with the environment and headphone model. Restart the Galaxy, reconnect the AirPods, then test again. These steps are most relevant when sound cuts in and out or the connection behaves inconsistently, rather than when a Bluetooth audio toggle or mute setting is clearly off (Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance).

5. Inspect for debris or visible damage
Look for dirt, earwax, or other buildup near the AirPods’ speaker openings. Samsung says debris can muffle sound or degrade audio over time. Clean only when buildup is present, using a suitable cleaning method; a cleaning kit will not fix a disabled Galaxy audio setting or muted media volume. If an AirPod is visibly damaged, Samsung notes that replacement may be needed (Samsung’s maintenance guidance).
6. Re-pair using instructions for your AirPods model
If the settings and comparisons do not resolve the problem, remove the AirPods from the Galaxy’s Bluetooth list and pair them again using Apple’s instructions for the specific model. The pairing gesture is not the same across all AirPods: some generations use the case setup button, supported newer generations use a double-tap on the front of the case, and AirPods Max has a separate button procedure. Follow Apple’s setup instructions for other Bluetooth devices or its model-aware instructions for pairing AirPods with a non-Apple device. Those pages explain pairing; they do not establish one universal reset procedure for every connected-but-silent problem.

What AirPods features work with a Samsung phone?
Apple says AirPods can be used as Bluetooth headphones with Android and other non-Apple devices for listening and talking. Siri is not available in that setup. The connection is supported, but it does not mean every Apple-specific feature will be available (Apple support).
