Which fit should you choose?
Choose AirPods 4 ANC for an open-ear design
AirPods 4 ANC sit in an open-ear style rather than sealing the ear canal with silicone tips. That makes them the more natural option if you dislike the sensation of in-ear buds or simply prefer not to use tips. It does not mean they will feel comfortable to everyone: ear shape and personal preference matter, and specifications cannot predict individual fit.

Choose Pro 2 if you want silicone tips
AirPods Pro 2 use an in-ear fit and come with four silicone tip sizes—XS, S, M, and L—so you can select the size that suits you. The tip-based fit is the relevant distinction if you want a seal inside the ear; it is not a guarantee that Pro 2 will be more comfortable or fit better for you. Try the fit where practical.
How do their noise-cancellation features compare?
Both models offer active noise cancellation alongside Adaptive Audio, Transparency, and Conversation Awareness. The key difference is Apple’s positioning of ANC strength: Apple says AirPods Pro 2 provide up to 2x more ANC than AirPods 4 with ANC. That is an Apple comparison, not an independent test or a promise that every listener will experience twice the noise reduction in every setting.

If you want ANC but prefer an open-ear design, AirPods 4 ANC are the fit-specific choice. If stronger published ANC is a priority and you are comfortable with silicone tips, Pro 2 is the better match on Apple’s stated comparison. Apple lists the features and comparison on its AirPods comparison page.

Actual duration varies with settings, environment, and use. Apple provides the details on its comparison page and in AirPods Pro 2 technical specifications.
What can each charging case use?
The AirPods 4 ANC case supports USB-C, Qi wireless charging, and an Apple Watch charger. Wireless charging is specific to the ANC version; do not assume the standard AirPods 4 case has the same charging options.

The AirPods Pro 2 USB-C MagSafe case supports USB-C, MagSafe, Qi wireless charging, and an Apple Watch charger. If you already use MagSafe, or want the widest set of listed charging methods, Pro 2’s case has the broader compatibility. Apple lists the case specifications on its AirPods comparison page and Pro 2 specifications page.
Do you need Pro 2’s hearing features?
AirPods Pro 2 offer Apple’s Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features, as well as hearing-protection features. Apple’s current comparison does not list Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, or Hearing Protection for AirPods 4. Availability and use of Pro 2 hearing features depend on compatible devices, operating-system requirements, age, and region. They are device features, not a substitute for medical care; check Apple’s current AirPods Pro 2 support information for eligibility and limitations.
Which is the better buy right now?
AirPods Pro 2 are an older generation now that Apple’s lineup includes AirPods Pro 3. Their current price and availability can vary by retailer, and Apple’s Pro 2 shop link redirected to the Pro 3 buying page when checked for this comparison, so there is no verified current Apple direct-sale price to quote. AirPods 4 with ANC appeared at $179 on Apple’s shop page when checked, but that retrieved listing is not an evergreen price. Compare live listings before deciding; without a current Pro 2 price, it is not possible to call either model the better value on price alone.
See Apple’s current AirPods lineup comparison for product positioning, and check retailers for current Pro 2 stock and pricing.
