What does the $50 difference buy?
At the observed Apple US prices, the ANC version’s $50 premium pays for three sound-control modes—Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio and Transparency—as well as wireless charging support and a speaker in the case for Find My. Apple describes ANC as reducing environmental sounds such as airplane engines and city traffic; that is the manufacturer’s description, not a measured comparison.
Both cases have USB-C. Apple says the USB-C charge cable is sold separately. The ANC case can also charge with an Apple Watch charger or a Qi-certified charger; these are supported options, not required accessories. Apple lists the charging and in-box details on its AirPods 4 technical specifications page.

How much listening time do you need?
Apple rates standard AirPods 4 for up to five hours on a charge and up to 30 hours with the case. For AirPods 4 with ANC, Apple’s ratings are up to four hours per charge and 20 hours with the case when ANC is enabled; with noise control off, the ratings rise to up to five hours and 30 hours with the case. These are manufacturer “up to” figures, and actual time depends on use and settings.
If you expect to keep ANC on for long stretches, account for the lower rated listening time. If you use noise control less often, the ANC model’s noise-control-off rating matches the standard model’s. These figures do not establish real-world performance in a particular listening situation.

Choose AirPods 4 with ANC if…

Choose standard AirPods 4 if…
- You don’t need the additional noise-control modes or the ANC case features.
- You want the lower listed Apple US price.
- You prefer the longer stated listening-time rating of up to five hours per charge with the ANC model’s noise control enabled.
What this comparison can’t tell you about fit and sound
Apple’s published comparison establishes shared features such as the H2 chip and Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, but it does not establish which model sounds better in independent listening tests or fits a particular person’s ears better. ANC alone is not evidence that the ANC version is equivalent to AirPods Pro. If fit is a deciding factor, consider your own comfort and the retailer’s return terms before buying.
