What Soul Binding does in Aion 2
Soul Binding is an equipment-progression system that raises or changes the stats attached to a piece of gear. It is separate from the labels that describe whether a claimed item can be shared between characters. In practical terms, you spend currency and Soul Binding materials on an item, then decide whether to keep refining its stats or move its progression to replacement gear later.

The strongest official point is that Soul Binding is included in equipment transfer. NCSOFT’s January 21, 2026 Season 2 announcement says transfer moves breakthrough stages, enhancement stages, and Soul Binding effects to another item. Each piece can be transferred up to six times. The announcement does not spell out every type of Soul Binding effect or explain how every extra stat behaves, so the confirmation screen remains important.
Official requirements and Philosopher’s Stones
Additional effects require complete base binding
NCSOFT’s February 11, 2026 announcement says equipment must reach 100% Soul Binding before players can apply additional Soul Binding effects. That operation consumes two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation items. The announcement confirms the 100% threshold and the two-stone requirement; it does not publish a universal Kinah price, a success-rate table, or a complete list of eligible equipment.

Power (Bound) has a documented equipment use case
NCSOFT’s May 27, 2026 announcement identifies Philosopher’s Stone: Power (Bound) as a material that enables Soul Binding for Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear. That does not establish that Power (Bound) is the correct stone for every item. Treat the item tooltip as the authority for the particular weapon or armor you are holding.

What Bind, Sync, and Reset cost
The following figures are from an independent Aion 2 mechanics guide, not from NCSOFT’s announcements. They are useful for planning but should not be treated as universal prices. A separate item database shows that costs can rise by step; its displayed example begins at 30,000 Kinah and 10 Soul Codex at step one.

Why a single “total cost” is misleading
Bind actions may become more expensive as an item advances. The third-party database’s example lists 30,000 Kinah and 10 Soul Codex at step one, while the mechanics guide gives 30,000 Kinah plus Soul Codex without presenting a universal step schedule. These are not contradictory guarantees; they show why the item’s current step, grade, and regional client matter. Record the next-action price shown in game rather than budgeting from a flat number.

How to choose between Bind, Sync, and Reset
Choose Bind when the stat combination is already useful
Bind changes the values of stats you already have. It is the least disruptive option when the item rolled the attributes you want and you are trying to increase their strength. Because the guide describes the increase as random, set a spending limit before repeating the action.
Choose Sync when one stat is the problem
Sync changes one stat rather than rebuilding the entire list. The guide says it uses a Sync Stone or same-grade gear. Check whether the interface lets you select the stat being replaced and verify the resulting stat before accepting; do not assume a Sync action preserves every hidden value.
Choose Reset only when the whole roll is expendable
Reset rerolls all listed stats using Soul Codex: Reset. It makes sense when several attributes are poor or when the current combination has no value for the build. It is wasteful if only one line is unwanted, because Sync is the narrower operation.

Can Soul Binding be transferred to new gear?
Yes. Under the Season 2 equipment-transfer system announced on January 21, 2026, Soul Binding effects move with breakthrough and enhancement progression to another item. NCSOFT states a maximum of six transfers per piece. That is the documented transfer limit; the reviewed announcements do not set a universal cap on how many times you may perform Bind, Sync, or Reset before transferring.

The independent Xtropolis guide makes a finer distinction: it says base Soul Binding stats transfer at their bound values, but the extra stat unlocked with Philosopher’s Stones does not transfer. NCSOFT’s announcement confirms that Soul Binding effects transfer but does not state this exception. Therefore, treat the guide’s distinction as provisional and read the live transfer preview line by line. If the preview omits an extra stat, cancel and verify the destination item before spending the transfer.
Plan around the six-transfer ceiling
- Use Bind and rerolls on gear you expect to keep through several upgrades, not on a temporary item you will replace immediately.
- Before accepting a transfer, confirm that the destination has the required grade and that the preview includes the effects you intend to carry.
- Keep a count of completed transfers for each donor or progression line; the official limit is per piece.
- Do not assume a transfer restores or refreshes the six-use allowance. The announcement only states that each piece may be transferred up to six times.
Can Soul Binding be removed?
No removal procedure is documented in the official announcements summarized here. The third-party guide lists Reset, but Reset rerolls the item’s Soul Binding stats; it is not described as deleting Soul Binding or making the item unbound. If your goal is to clear an item for sale, mailing, or character sharing, do not spend Soul Codex: Reset expecting that result. Check the current item tooltip and support documentation for your region before committing.

“Character bound” is not the same as Soul Binding
NCSOFT’s support FAQ uses three labels for claimed-item sharing. These labels describe who can use or receive the item after it is claimed; they do not describe the stat-enhancement system.

An item can therefore have a sharing restriction and also carry Soul Binding progression. Read the sharing label and the Soul Binding panel as separate systems.

- Inspect the item tooltip. Confirm its grade, current Soul Binding percentage, available base slots, extra-slot status, and the exact Philosopher’s Stone named by the client.
- Open the Soul Binding tab. Check the displayed price for the next Bind, the available Sync option, and whether Reset requires Soul Codex: Reset.
- Decide whether the item is temporary. If replacement is imminent, avoid expensive rerolls unless the item will remain useful long enough to justify them.
- Fill the base slots before pursuing an extra slot. The third-party guide says all base slots must be maxed first; the live interface should confirm the order and stone type.
- At 100%, review the additional-effect requirement. The official announcement specifies two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation items for this operation.
- Preview any transfer. Check every breakthrough, enhancement, and Soul Binding line. Pay special attention to any Philosopher’s Stone extra stat because the third-party guide says it may not carry over.
- Confirm the transfer count. Stop and reconsider if the move would consume one of the item’s six allowed transfers without a clear upgrade path.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Using the wrong Philosopher’s Stone
Revelation is the officially announced material for adding an extra effect at 100% Soul Binding. Power (Bound) is officially associated with Soul Binding on Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear. Those facts do not create a universal stone chart. Always match the stone name shown for the specific item.

Treating third-party prices as permanent
The 30,000-Kinah Bind figure, the extra-slot estimate of 1,000,000 Kinah plus two stones, and the Sync and Reset material descriptions are guide data. Item-specific costs can rise by step, and regional patches can change requirements. Use the current client’s displayed cost as the final authority.
Assuming every Soul Binding line transfers
Official material confirms that Soul Binding effects are part of equipment transfer. The more specific claim that a Philosopher’s Stone extra stat is excluded comes from an independent guide. Read the transfer preview instead of relying on either a generic assumption or an old screenshot.
Confusing a bound-item label with a stat lock
Character bound, class bound, and server bound govern sharing after claiming. They do not automatically mean that Soul Binding cannot be upgraded or transferred. Evaluate the sharing rule and progression rule independently.
What is known, and what remains version-sensitive
- Officially established: Soul Binding effects are included in equipment transfer, each piece can be transferred up to six times, 100% Soul Binding is required for the announced additional-effect action, two Revelation stones are required for that action, and Power (Bound) is used for the named Dragon Lord equipment case.
- Reported by third-party mechanics sources: Bind, Sync, Reset, the listed Kinah and material examples, the extra-slot prerequisites, rising step costs, and the claim that a Philosopher’s Stone extra stat does not transfer.
- Not established by the available official announcements: a universal Bind/Sync/Reset action cap, a complete list of ineligible equipment, a single price that applies to every item and region, or a documented way to remove Soul Binding entirely.
For any expensive action, compare the item tooltip, the Soul Binding panel, and the transfer preview in the regional client you are actually playing. Those three screens provide the most reliable answer when a patch changes a cost, stone requirement, slot rule, or transfer result.
