Use two measurements, not one: whether AI systems mention or cite your brand, and whether those appearances produce visits, engagement, or leads. Google Search Console now provides a first-party baseline for AI Overviews and AI Mode. A third-party platform is useful when you need broader platform coverage, repeatable prompt monitoring, competitor and citation analysis, page recommendations, or links to behavioral analytics.
The most reliable program fixes a prompt set, market settings, and observation schedule; records the answer, sources, and competitors; then compares those observations with first-party referral and conversion data. No tool’s visibility score is a universal ranking, and appearing in an answer never guarantees a click.

What AI visibility measures—and what it does not
AI visibility is your brand’s presence in generated answers, summaries, and recommendations. A monitoring record can show that a model mentioned your company, recommended a product category that includes you, or cited one of your URLs. Those are exposure signals.

AI-referred traffic is a different signal: a person clicked from an AI experience to your site, stayed, and perhaps completed a form, trial, or purchase. A brand may be highly visible in answers while receiving few clicks, or receive visits that analytics cannot confidently attribute to an AI source. Report the two streams separately before combining them in a business view.
#1 Best Overall
- Exposure: answer appearances, recommendation strength, mentions, citations, sentiment, cited URLs, and competitors shown.
- Behavior: AI-attributed sessions, landing pages, engagement, assisted conversions, and directly attributed leads or revenue.
- Business interpretation: which prompts, pages, markets, and answer types justify content or distribution investment.
Model-generated observations are samples, not a census of every user query. Amplitude notes that its prompts are generated by models and do not come from private user search logs. Treat any composite visibility score as a directional index, not as pipeline or market share.
Start with Google Search Console’s first-party report
Google Search Console is the baseline for Google-specific measurement because it reports actual Search performance rather than a vendor’s simulated prompt set. Google’s generative AI performance report covers organic impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode. You can examine pages, countries, and date ranges, and export the report for analysis. Google displays dates in Pacific Time.
Google Search Console Help says the report’s insights had rolled out worldwide by August 31, 2026. It may not appear for a property that has not accumulated enough AI-feature impressions, or for a site that has excluded itself from those features. The report also covers Google’s experiences only; it is not a measurement of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or other systems.
Use the report to establish a trend for pages and markets that already receive Google AI impressions. Do not interpret an absent report as proof that your brand never appears: low volume and eligibility conditions can both explain the absence.

Build a repeatable measurement set
A useful monitoring program begins with buyer questions rather than a tool’s default score. Create a fixed set of prompts and preserve their wording, language, location, device assumptions, and observation dates. Change the set deliberately when your market or products change; do not silently change it and then call the result a trend.
Group prompts by buying stage
- Category discovery: questions such as which solutions exist for a defined business problem.
- Problem and solution research: requests for approaches, requirements, risks, or implementation methods.
- Vendor comparison: prompts asking for alternatives, shortlists, strengths, weaknesses, or fit for a company profile.
- Implementation questions: prompts about setup, integrations, governance, security, pricing models, or migration.
Record the same fields every time
For each observation, save the exact prompt, market, date, AI surface, answer text or capture, and model or experience where the tool exposes it. Mark whether your brand is absent, merely mentioned, recommended, or cited. Record every owned and third-party source cited, the competitors shown, and any factual error that could change a buying decision.
This protocol is an editorial measurement practice, not a claim that every provider uses identical prompts. Its value is repeatability: a later observation can be compared with an earlier one without confusing a changed question with a changed level of visibility.
Which AI visibility tools are useful for B2B marketers?
Choose a platform for a defined decision. A cross-platform dashboard is valuable only if the surfaces and markets it samples match where your buyers search and if the output leads to an action your team can take.
Rank #3
| Tool | AI surfaces documented | Documented data or workflows | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console | Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Organic AI impressions with page, country, and date dimensions; exportable reporting | First-party Google data; availability depends on AI impressions and eligibility; does not cover other AI platforms |
| Adobe Brand Visibility | AI and agentic experiences as described in Adobe’s documentation | AI visibility dashboards, prompt management, brand mentions and sentiment, competitor benchmarking, referrals, URL inspection, and prioritized opportunities | The documented AI visibility feature is powered by Semrush; capabilities and access can change by account |
| Amplitude AI Visibility | ChatGPT and Google AI Overview | Prompt and competitor analysis, page and copy recommendations, CSV export, and connections to behavioral and conversion analysis | Generated prompts are not private user searches; refresh cadence and capacity depend on plan and account settings |
| Semrush AI Visibility | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, SearchGPT, Google AI Mode, and Google AI Overviews | AI mentions and citations alongside conventional SEO tracking | Surface coverage and feature descriptions are vendor claims, not independent performance validation |
These products are not a head-to-head performance ranking. Before buying, ask each vendor to demonstrate the exact countries, languages, prompts, refresh limits, exports, and integrations you need.
Questions to ask during evaluation
- Which AI platforms, interfaces, languages, and countries are sampled?
- Does the product show impressions, prompts, mentions, citations, sentiment, referrals, conversions, or only a composite score?
- Can you lock prompts and rerun them consistently, and can you see how prompts are generated?
- Does it identify the source passages and URLs behind an answer, compare competitors, and inspect your pages?
- Are page-level recommendations tied to crawlability, content gaps, or observed citations?
- Can data flow into your analytics, SEO, CRM, or reporting system?
- How often does it refresh, and what prompt or export limits apply to your account?
- Can the output support a budget or content decision, rather than just a leaderboard?
Separate visibility from visits and leads
Connect answer observations to analytics without claiming more attribution than your data supports. Adobe documents separate dashboards for AI visibility and AI or agentic referrals. Amplitude documents a way to connect AI visibility observations with behavior and conversion analysis. Those functions are useful precisely because they keep exposure and downstream activity distinct.
Build an outcome view
- Export or otherwise preserve the prompt observations, including the AI surface, market, answer status, cited URL, and date.
- In your analytics platform, create a segment for sessions identified as coming from an AI referrer when the platform can reliably identify one. Keep an “unattributed or unknown” bucket; do not force every direct visit into AI traffic.
- Compare landing pages, engaged sessions, form starts, qualified leads, opportunities, and revenue for that segment with other acquisition sources.
- Join the data at a practical level, such as month, market, landing page, or campaign. A prompt mention is not a user identifier, so do not present it as one-to-one attribution.
- Report exposure and outcomes in separate columns, then explain where the evidence connects them and where it does not.
AI answers can be read without a click, and referrer information can be missing or altered. A rise in mentions with flat referrals may indicate stronger awareness, a low-click answer format, or weak page fit; it is not automatically a failure.

How to improve the chance of being mentioned or cited
Google Search Central’s guidance is explicit: “There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary.” The normal requirements still apply. Google says pages must meet Search technical requirements, be indexable, and provide helpful, reliable, people-first content. Eligibility does not guarantee crawling, indexing, or serving.
Make important information accessible
- Keep the page crawlable and avoid blocking the content that answers the buyer’s question.
- Put critical facts in visible text. Do not make an answer depend solely on an image, an interaction that cannot be rendered, or a download.
- Use descriptive internal links so related explanations, evidence, and product pages can be discovered together.
- Maintain a good page experience on the devices and connections your audience uses.
- Keep structured data consistent with what visitors can see. Structured data is not a special AI eligibility switch.
Publish material with a reason to be cited
Answer a defined B2B question directly, state assumptions and dates, explain methodology, and distinguish measured results from opinion. Add original detail such as implementation constraints, decision criteria, examples, or clearly sourced figures. Keep terminology consistent across headings, body copy, tables, and navigation so a system can identify the subject and scope of a page.
Use an evidence-led improvement loop
- Find prompts where the brand is absent, weakly recommended, or represented by an outdated claim.
- Inspect the sources the answer cites and compare their structure, specificity, freshness, and evidence with your relevant page.
- Verify that your page is crawlable, useful, clearly organized, and explicit about facts buyers need to compare.
- Update the page, internal links, or supporting evidence without adding claims you cannot substantiate.
- Rerun the same prompts and markets on the next scheduled observation, then compare the result with Search Console and analytics data.
This loop can improve clarity and eligibility, but it cannot guarantee a citation. Google advises against unnecessary AI text files, inauthentic mentions, or other supposed AI-only hacks.

Sampling is not user behavior
A prompt-monitoring platform may generate realistic questions, but those questions are still a sample. Model updates, answer randomness, localization, personalization, and changing index content can alter a result even when your page did not change. Preserve captures and methodology so a change is auditable.
Coverage is not comparable by default
One tool may monitor six AI surfaces in several countries; another may provide first-party Google impressions for your pages. Their counts answer different questions. Compare trends within a tool and protocol unless you can establish that prompts, surfaces, markets, and definitions match.
Best Value
Mentions vary in value
A passing mention, a recommendation with a reason, and a citation to a relevant page are not equivalent. Add a strength field to your internal report and review whether the answer describes your product accurately. A high mention count can conceal poor positioning or factual errors.
Scores are not pipeline
Use visibility scores to prioritize investigation, not to forecast revenue. The commercial test is whether qualified people arrive, engage with the right content, and convert. Validate recommendations against Google’s published guidance and your first-party analytics; third-party products do not have access to Google’s internal ranking or AI systems.
A practical operating cadence
- Weekly or biweekly: review high-value prompts for answer changes, incorrect claims, new competitors, and broken citations.
- Monthly: export observations, review Google Search Console AI impressions, and compare AI-identified visits and conversions where attribution is available.
- Quarterly: retire irrelevant prompts, add questions from sales and support, check market coverage, and decide which content or technical fixes deserve resources.
- After a major site or product change: rerun the affected prompt group and verify crawlability, internal links, visible text, and structured-data consistency.
The right tool is the one that covers the AI surfaces your buyers use, produces repeatable evidence, and connects to a decision your team can make. For Google-only measurement, start with Search Console. Add cross-platform monitoring or analytics integration when a specific gap—such as competitor citations, page recommendations, or outcome analysis—justifies the cost and operating work.
