How do I search my photos with AI?
Start in the app that contains the pictures you want to find. In iPhone Photos, use the search field; Apple Intelligence can interpret a natural-language description to find a particular photo or a key moment in a video. The app also suggests searches based on dates, locations, and people you have named. In Google Photos, classic search can find people, things, places, and organized collections. If Ask Photos is available on your account and you opt in, you can ask conversational questions, request summaries, and follow up. Google gives examples such as finding photos that could work as a phone background or recalling food from a trip. These describe supported ways to search, not a guarantee that every result will be correct. See Google Photos Help on searching by people, things, and places and using Ask Photos.

Is Google Photos search better than iPhone Photos?
The official feature descriptions support a comparison of search styles, not an overall winner. Apple documents natural-language search for photos and key video moments. Google documents classic category-based search and an optional conversational experience with summaries and follow-ups. The available documentation does not provide controlled accuracy, speed, or ranking comparisons, so a claim that one is better would go beyond the evidence.

A practical way to choose is to try the option that can see the library you need and supports the kind of query you want. For a descriptive search inside iPhone Photos, check Apple Intelligence eligibility. For conversational questions about a Google Photos library, first check whether Ask Photos is available to your account.
Why don’t I have Apple Intelligence search or Ask Photos?

Apple Intelligence is limited by supported iPhone hardware as well as language and region conditions. Check Apple’s current requirements and availability details rather than assuming every iPhone with the Photos app can use natural-language Apple Intelligence search.

Ask Photos in Google Photos
Google describes Ask Photos as rolling out selectively. Access can depend on location and account eligibility, and the feature requires opting in. Google also documents it for mobile access. If you do not see it, consult the current Google Photos Help page for availability and eligibility details; availability can change.

- Confirm the library: Search where the target pictures actually live. These app features do not establish a single search spanning both services.
- Check backup status in Google Photos: Google says you can use Ask Photos with backed-up images. If you select an individual photo and ask about it, that photo must be backed up.
- Account for uncertainty: Google calls Ask Photos experimental and warns that it may produce unexpected or inaccurate results. Use its answers to locate candidate images, then verify them yourself.
- Check eligibility before troubleshooting: Apple hardware, language, and region requirements and Google’s account, location, and opt-in conditions can explain why an option is missing.
What privacy controls does Google document for Ask Photos?
Google documents controls to disable Ask Photos and to turn off query review. It says voice recordings used for searching are not stored. Separately, Google says Ask Photos queries may be reviewed after privacy-protective steps unless query review is turned off. Those statements concern specific controls and data; they are not a full privacy comparison with Apple. The cited material does not establish equivalent Apple practices for this feature.
