Futurism reported in October 2025 that Facebook was circulating AI-style videos of women, often portrayed as elderly, falling from shattered glass bridges. The report associated the trend with Meta AI, but neither it nor Meta’s published policy identifies the creator, model, prompt, or production chain for each clip. Calling every video “Zuckerberg’s AI” therefore goes beyond what the available evidence establishes.
What the reported videos show
In its October 1, 2025 article, Futurism described a recurring scene: a woman, often depicted as elderly, breaks through a glass-bottom bridge and appears to fall. Some clips end tragically; others take a sentimental turn. One example carried the caption “Is that real? Glass bridge accident.”

What the view counts and disclosure observations mean
Futurism reported one Facebook video with more than 130,000 views and an X post with more than 32 million views. Those are reported counts for individual examples, not independently audited metrics or a measure of how common the videos were. The linked posts’ present availability and historical counts have not been independently verified.

The article also said some Facebook uploads included AI disclaimers, while “the vast majority” did not, and that many came from small, AI-heavy accounts with little engagement. Those are the reporter’s observations at publication time—not results of a systematic platform-wide audit.
Futurism quoted X user Josh Brooks describing a Facebook Reels autoplay: “Opened Facebook and Reels autoplayed. First reel had 57k likes and 12,000 comments.” His account is an anecdote about one viewing experience, not evidence of a general recommendation pattern. The report discussed the clips alongside “dead internet theory” and engagement incentives; that interpretation does not prove an algorithm caused the trend or that every clip originated in Meta AI.
What Meta says about AI labels
Meta’s policy statement, authored by Monika Bickert, Vice President of Content Policy, says it may add an “AI info” label when it detects industry-shared indicators of AI generation or when a user discloses that content was AI-generated. It says a more prominent label may be used when digitally created or altered media carries a particularly high risk of materially deceiving the public on an important matter. The statement includes updates through October 23, 2025; it describes Meta’s policy, not an independent assessment of how well labels work in practice.

Meta says manipulated content generally remains on its platforms with labels and context unless it violates another policy. Bickert wrote: “We agree with the Oversight Board’s recommendation that providing transparency and additional context is now the better way to address manipulated media and avoid the risk of unnecessarily restricting freedom of speech, so we’ll keep this content on our platforms so we can add labels and context.”
That policy describes possible triggers and treatment in general terms. It does not show whether a particular bridge clip was detected, disclosed, or labeled, and an AI label signals AI involvement rather than certifying whether the depicted event is real. The cited sources do not measure label coverage for the videos Futurism described.

In a 2024 post, Meta said Meta AI was built on Llama 3 and described prompt and response filters, expert testing, and user feedback. The company also acknowledged that generative AI can produce inaccurate or inappropriate outputs. This is product context from Meta, but it does not identify the version or workflow used for any video in Futurism’s report.
Meta’s policy post also cited a 2024 survey in which 82% of more than 23,000 respondents across 13 countries favored warning labels for AI-generated content depicting people saying things they did not say. The figure is Meta-reported and applies to that specific scenario; it should not be generalized to AI videos showing actions or to all users.

What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Reported: Futurism described Facebook videos featuring a shattered glass bridge and apparent falls, and gave examples of posts with large reported view counts.
- Not established: The creator, exact AI model, prompt, and production process for each clip are unidentified in the cited reporting and policy statement.
- Policy context: Meta says labels may follow detected AI signals or user disclosure, and that manipulated content generally remains available unless another rule requires action.
- Not measured here: Whether Meta’s labels reached these particular clips, or how often comparable Facebook videos were unlabeled.
Futurism also attributed comments about Facebook’s shift away from connecting friends to Mark Zuckerberg’s testimony, including “The friend part has gone down quite a bit” and that connecting friends “wasn’t really” the platform’s core purpose anymore. The primary transcript and full context are not established here, so those remarks should be understood as Futurism’s secondhand quotation, not independently checked testimony.
