There is no independently proven “best” AI intent tool in 2026. The clearest signal depends on what you need to observe: first-party engagement on your own site, software-evaluation actions on a review marketplace, broad topic research across publisher sites, or a combined account score for sales and marketing workflows. 6sense, Demandbase, Bombora and G2 Buyer Intent document materially different approaches, so the right shortlist starts with signal provenance and operating model rather than a vendor leaderboard.

Use an intent signal as evidence that an account may be researching a problem, category or supplier. It is not proof that a particular person has authority, that a buying group is formed, or that a purchase is imminent. A useful system combines intent with account fit, first-party engagement, known contacts, opportunity history and a repeatable validation process.

What buyer-intent signals are—and what they are not

Buyer-intent data is a set of behavioral observations interpreted as possible commercial interest. Examples include an account visiting product pages, comparing vendors, reading reviews, searching for a topic on publisher sites, or repeatedly engaging with a company’s content. AI systems classify and aggregate those observations so revenue teams can decide which accounts deserve attention first.

The word possible matters. Activity can come from a student, competitor, consultant, job candidate, existing customer or an employee researching a problem that never receives budget. Even genuine research may happen months before a project is approved. 6sense warns that false positives remain a challenge and says accuracy varies by provider, matching methodology and refresh frequency. A high score is therefore a prioritization input, not a verified purchase plan.

First-party website and CRM activity

Your own web analytics, marketing-automation events and CRM history show how an account interacts with your properties. Repeated visits to pricing, integration, security or implementation pages can be more actionable than an isolated anonymous page view because the context is under your control. The trade-off is coverage: an account that researches elsewhere can look inactive until it reaches your site.

Review-marketplace activity

Software buyers often reveal evaluation intent by viewing a category or product page, comparing competitors, reading reviews, contributing a review or engaging with pricing information. These actions have strong topical relevance for B2B software companies, but they describe behavior on the marketplace rather than a complete buying group. They also favor categories that are actively researched on that marketplace.

Publisher and bidstream research

Third-party publisher networks observe content consumption and search behavior across a wider portion of the B2B web. Topic-level increases can reveal research before an account visits a supplier’s site. Coverage is broader, while the connection to a specific project, person or vendor is less direct and depends on identity matching and topic classification.

Partner and enrichment signals

Some platforms combine their own observations with data from specialist networks, review sites and other integrations. Combining sources can fill coverage gaps, but it also makes provenance, consent, deduplication and matching rules important. A sales user should be able to see why an account was flagged and which source produced the evidence.

How AI tools identify accounts that may be ready to buy

Although implementations differ, most systems perform the following sequence:

  1. Collect events. The platform ingests website visits, CRM and marketing-automation activity, review interactions, publisher consumption, keyword behavior or partner feeds.
  2. Normalize topics and entities. Natural-language processing groups different phrases and pages into concepts such as a product category, use case, competitor or implementation issue. Spelling variants and related terms are treated as one topic when the model considers them relevant.
  3. Resolve identity. Anonymous device, company-domain, cookie, IP or account records are mapped to an organization. The confidence of that mapping determines whether an event can be used safely for account prioritization.
  4. Measure change over time. Systems look for unusual volume, recency, repeat visits or a rise in research on selected topics rather than treating every event equally.
  5. Score or summarize. A model produces an intent score, a surge indicator, a ranked account list or a narrative summary. The output is useful only when users can inspect the underlying activity.
  6. Activate the signal. CRM tasks, account lists, advertising audiences, alerts and playbooks turn the observation into an action. Routing rules should include fit and engagement checks so a noisy signal does not create indiscriminate outreach.

Demandbase describes its AI and natural-language processing as determining relevance and trends in keyword and website activity. 6sense’s predictive company activity model uses historical activity to estimate the likelihood that an account will open an opportunity in the next 90 days. That estimate is a model output, not a promised conversion window.

6sense, G2 Buyer Intent, Bombora and Demandbase compared

Product Documented signal approach Useful context Important qualification
6sense Native intent network, AI analysis and keyword recommendations, plus named integrations such as Bombora, TechTarget, TrustRadius and G2. Predictive company activity can combine CRM, marketing automation, web, business-network keyword activity and third-party sources. Intent scores run from 0–100 and update daily, according to 6sense Support. The score reflects a model’s likelihood estimate. G2 events require domain matching and an available account in 6sense; unmatched signals do not create a new account.
G2 Buyer Intent Activity on the G2 software-research marketplace, including product or category-page views, competitor comparisons, pricing engagement, and review reading or contribution. Directly relevant when the buying motion involves comparing B2B software vendors. Marketplace coverage and behavior are not the same as a complete account buying process. “Verified” is G2’s positioning, not an independent validation finding.
Bombora Company Surge Increases in company-level research activity across the B2B web for selected topics. Useful for discovering accounts researching a category before they engage with your site. Bombora says every 6sense customer receives access to 12 topics, with additional topic packages available; current entitlements must be confirmed.
Demandbase Keyword-based intent from a B2B publisher bidstream and direct website engagement; AI and NLP identify relevance and trends. Third-party sources such as Bombora, G2 and TrustRadius can be imported. Combines account intelligence, intent and orchestration in one operating environment. Demandbase describes intent as probabilistic and says its model methodology may change. Its separate AI Insights availability and behavior depend on the current plan.

This table describes documented product approaches, not a controlled accuracy test. The available material does not provide comparable prices, contract terms, independent head-to-head accuracy results or a neutral ranking.

How each approach differs in practice

6sense: combined predictive account activity

6sense is the most explicitly model-centered option in this group. Its predictive company activity model combines multiple historical and current inputs, then expresses the output as an intent score from 0 to 100. 6sense Support, updated July 23, 2025, defines the score as the output of a model that uses an account’s historical activity to estimate the likelihood of opening an opportunity within the next 90 days. Scores are updated daily.

The platform’s documented approach also includes a native intent network, AI analysis and keyword recommendations, with integrations named for Bombora, TechTarget, TrustRadius and G2. Its product materials say it tracks intent data in more than 40 languages; that is a vendor claim, not an independently measured coverage comparison.

The practical advantage is a single account-prioritization layer that can combine engagement and intent. The practical risk is opacity if users see only a number. Require drill-down evidence: which sources changed, which topics were involved, how recent the events are, and how the account was matched.

For G2 data specifically, the 6sense integration matches a signal to an existing account by website domain. If no matching account is available, the signal does not create a new account in 6sense. That rule affects coverage and should be tested with your account and domain data before launch.

G2 Buyer Intent: software-evaluation actions

G2 Buyer Intent focuses on actions taken on a software research marketplace. Product and category-page views, competitor comparisons, pricing engagement, and review consumption or contribution can indicate that an account is evaluating solutions rather than merely reading general content.

This is a strong topical fit for a software company whose target buyers research vendors on G2. It is less complete for categories with little marketplace activity, buyers who avoid public review sites, or purchases driven mainly by existing relationships and procurement frameworks. Treat the signal as evidence of evaluation behavior; it does not establish budget, authority or a committed timeline.

G2 says its signals integrate with platforms including 6sense and Demandbase. In any integration, verify the identity key, the time between an event and its delivery, the handling of unmatched domains and whether one account can contain multiple subsidiaries. Those details determine whether a useful event reaches the right seller.

Bombora Company Surge: topic-level research increases

Bombora Company Surge is designed to show that a company’s research activity on selected topics has increased across the B2B web. The signal is about a topic surge, not a visit to one supplier. That makes it useful for early discovery, territory planning and campaigns organized around problems or categories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bombora states that every 6sense customer receives access to 12 topics and describes additional topic-coverage options. Because package entitlements can change, confirm the current topic count, taxonomy, geography, language coverage, lookback period and export limits in your contract or trial.

A surge should trigger a relevance check. Compare the topic with the account’s industry, employee profile, existing technology, open opportunities and first-party engagement. A broad topic can be researched for many reasons, and an account-level label does not identify the individual researcher.

Demandbase: keyword intent plus account orchestration

Demandbase documentation describes keyword-based intent from a B2B publisher bidstream together with direct website engagement. Its AI and NLP methods determine relevance and trends, and the platform can import third-party signals from Bombora, G2 and TrustRadius.

This combination can suit teams that want account intelligence, intent and activation in one workflow. It also creates governance work: document which source produced each event, how duplicate signals are merged and how an imported score is displayed beside a native one.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Demandbase says its intent model is probabilistic and that methodology may change. Its separate AI Insights feature summarizes activity; confirm current plan availability, data retention and user-facing explanations before treating the summaries as operational evidence.

Six criteria for choosing an intent-data platform

1. Signal provenance

List the decisions the system must support, then identify the evidence needed for each. First-party page depth can support an outreach decision; review-marketplace comparisons can support a competitive-evaluation play; publisher topic surges can support awareness and account selection. A vendor that cannot show source provenance makes it harder to investigate false positives.

2. Granularity and identity matching

Ask whether the output is company, account, household, device or named-person level. Determine how anonymous activity is mapped to a domain, how subsidiaries and parent companies are handled, and what happens when a domain is missing. Matching errors can be more damaging than a lower score because they route a real signal to the wrong account.

3. Freshness and historical depth

Confirm event latency, refresh cadence, lookback window and historical export. Daily updates, such as the cadence documented for 6sense scores, are not equivalent to real-time alerts. A short lookback may miss a slow enterprise evaluation, while a long history can bury a recent change unless the interface highlights recency.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Contextual precision

Evaluate custom keywords, topic taxonomies, language support, competitor terms, exclusions and methods for suppressing irrelevant research. 6sense’s product page claims coverage in more than 40 languages; test the languages and topics that matter to your territories rather than treating the headline figure as proof of equal quality in every language.

5. Operational fit

Map the signal to the systems your teams already use: CRM fields, marketing automation, advertising audiences, sales alerts, account-based programs and reporting. A theoretically strong score that requires manual exports may be less useful than a narrower signal that reaches the seller with its evidence and recommended next step.

6. Proof, privacy and governance

Require an explanation for every flagged account, retention and deletion controls, consent documentation where applicable, role-based access, suppression handling and an audit trail for model or taxonomy changes. Establish who owns topic definitions, score thresholds and the process for correcting a bad match.

A practical pilot plan

A controlled pilot is safer than rolling a score out to every territory. Use a defined audience and compare outcomes with a baseline or control group.

  1. Choose one commercial motion. For example, expansion in existing accounts, new-logo software evaluation or a campaign for one product category. Do not mix unrelated motions in the first test.
  2. Define the target account set. Document industry, geography, size, technology, revenue potential and exclusions. Keep a holdout group that receives your normal process.
  3. Write the signal specification. Name the topics, event types, minimum recency, acceptable match confidence and the action a seller should take. Specify whether a signal is a hand-raise, a research clue or an advertising audience.
  4. Connect and validate data. Check CRM account IDs, website domains, parent-child relationships, deduplication, field mappings and suppression lists. Test known active and inactive accounts to see whether the system produces expected matches.
  5. Set a tiered workflow. Use a high-priority path only when intent is combined with fit and first-party engagement. Route weaker signals to nurture, advertising or research tasks rather than immediate sales outreach.
  6. Show the evidence. Give users the source, topic, event date, trend and matching rationale. Prohibit outreach that cites anonymous behavior as if a named person requested contact.
  7. Measure against the baseline. Track qualified meetings, opportunity creation, progression, conversion, response time and disqualification reasons for exposed and holdout accounts. Also record false positives, unmatched signals and routing failures.
  8. Review and adjust. After a predefined period, remove irrelevant topics, revise thresholds, fix domain mappings and document model changes. Expand only when the signal produces measurable lift without unacceptable privacy or user-experience costs.

Common failure modes and fixes

  • Confusing a score with readiness: Require fit, known engagement and a buying-group hypothesis before sales action.
  • Using broad topics: Split a generic category into use case, competitor, implementation and pain-point terms; add exclusions for irrelevant meanings.
  • Ignoring match quality: Audit parent companies, subsidiaries, agencies and shared domains; quarantine low-confidence records.
  • Stale alerts: Display event time and trend direction, set expiration rules and avoid treating an old surge as current intent.
  • Duplicate or contradictory sources: Preserve source-level evidence and define which system is authoritative for account identity and suppression.
  • Seller overload: Limit alerts, rank by fit and recency, and send lower-confidence activity to coordinated marketing programs.
  • No measurement discipline: Keep a baseline or control group and report lift, not just the number of accounts flagged.
  • Unexplained model changes: Maintain a change log for taxonomy, scoring, integrations and methodology so trend breaks can be investigated.

Which tool is the conditional fit?

Choose based on the signal you can validate, not the largest feature list.

Your primary need Conditional fit What to verify before committing
Predictive account prioritization that combines many activity sources 6sense Score explainability, domain matching, source weighting, daily refresh behavior and access to the integrations your teams need.
Evidence that buyers are comparing B2B software vendors G2 Buyer Intent Category coverage, account matching, event latency, marketplace reach in your audience and integration behavior for unmatched domains.
Broad, topic-based discovery of accounts researching a problem Bombora Company Surge Current topic entitlements, taxonomy quality, geography and language coverage, surge definition and export or activation limits.
Account intelligence paired with keyword intent and orchestration Demandbase Native versus imported signal display, model-change notices, AI Insights availability, workflow integrations and governance controls.

These are conditional fit observations based on the products’ documented descriptions, not universal recommendations. A software vendor may value marketplace evaluation actions, an existing 6sense user may prefer combined scoring and partner data, a topic-led team may assess Bombora, and an account-intelligence program may assess Demandbase. In every case, validate the output against first-party engagement and account fit.

Pricing, evidence and what remains unresolved

The available documentation does not provide current, apples-to-apples pricing or contract terms for these products. Packaging, topic access, integrations and feature availability can change, so request a dated quote and a written entitlement list. Do not infer relative value from vendor scale claims or customer case-study outcomes; those figures use different definitions and are not independent head-to-head measurements.

The strongest buying evidence is your own pilot: a documented signal, a correct account match, a timely workflow and measurable lift over a baseline. If a vendor cannot expose enough provenance to test those elements, treat the score as an unverified hypothesis rather than a buying trigger.

Bottom line

6sense, G2 Buyer Intent, Bombora Company Surge and Demandbase answer different intent questions. 6sense emphasizes combined predictive scoring; G2 captures software-marketplace evaluation; Bombora highlights topic surges across the B2B web; Demandbase combines keyword and website intent with account orchestration. The clearest signal is the one whose source, match, recency and action you can explain—and whose incremental impact you can demonstrate in a controlled pilot.
