Gemini’s Call for me can hold a routine business conversation, but it is a limited US preview. Apple’s Siri and Hold Assist make calls easier to start or wait through, and they don’t conduct the conversation. We found no current, official, broadly available non-Google consumer assistant that does comparable autonomous outbound calling. That is a limit of the evidence, not proof that no niche or newly launched product exists.
First, decide what “make a call for me” means
The phrase covers two different things. One is voice dialing: you say “call the dentist” and the phone dials, and you do the talking. The other is an agent call: the AI speaks to the business, asks your questions, and reports back. Most assistants only do the first. Only a few Google features do the second.

Comparison at a glance
| Option | What it does | Conducts the business conversation? | Scope and caveats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini Android Phone app integration | Places a call to a contact, business or number | No; it initiates the call | Needs an Android phone or tablet, an active mobile plan, the Gemini app and phone permission (Google) |
| Gemini Call for me | Asks about hours, availability and quotes; handles appointments and reservations; navigates menus; waits on hold | Yes, for routine business tasks | Limited US preview with strict eligibility and daily limits (Google) |
| Google Search AI business calling | Calls local businesses for pricing and availability, then compares results | Yes, for that search task | US rollout announced July 16, 2025; businesses control participation (Google) |
| Siri and iPhone Hold Assist | Siri calls contacts or numbers; Hold Assist alerts you when a live agent answers | No documented autonomous conversation | Hold Assist needs supported hardware and software and is unavailable in some regions (Siri calls, Hold Assist) |
| OpenAI AI phone support | Answers inbound questions about OpenAI products | Not applicable; it doesn’t call for you | A support line, not a personal assistant (OpenAI) |
Gemini’s two calling modes
Ordinary call placement on Android
Gemini can use the Phone app to call contacts, businesses and numbers by voice command. Contact sync and permissions affect which contacts it can reach. It may use Maps or other Google services to find a nearby business, so requests can fail if those services are unavailable. It doesn’t work in Gemini on the web or in Google Messages, and Google says not to use it for emergency services. You are still the one on the call. (Google)
Call for me
This is the real agent. Google says Gemini can ask for opening hours, product availability and quotes, book, confirm or manage appointments and reservations, navigate phone menus, and wait on hold. You review the task, the number and the information to be shared, then tap Call for me. You can watch a transcript or listen live, cancel before connection, or take over. Afterward you get a summary, and the transcript and recording are in the Phone app’s call history. Calls use your device’s mobile network and number, so standard carrier rates apply. (Google)

Google lists these requirements:
- Age 18 or older, located in the US with a US SIM
- A Pixel 11
- A Google AI subscription
- Phone by Google Public Beta and the current Gemini app
- English as the device language
Rollout is gradual, calls are limited to US numbers, and daily call limits apply. Meeting the list doesn’t guarantee access yet.
Safety boundaries
Google says: “Gemini starts every call by disclosing that it’s an AI assistant from Google calling on a recorded line on your behalf, stating your name.” It cannot call emergency services, make payments or financial transactions, share sensitive details (financial information, passwords, health information, Social Security numbers), or make telemarketing calls. The summary isn’t proof that a booking went through correctly, so verify anything important yourself.

Google Search business calling
A separate feature, announced July 16, 2025 by Robby Stein, Google Search’s VP of Product, lets Search call businesses about pricing and availability, such as pet grooming or dry cleaning. It consolidates the answers into a range of options. The rollout began for US Search users, with higher limits for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Businesses can opt out through Business Profile settings. It is a compare-and-quote tool, not the same as Gemini’s Call for me. (Google)
Apple: Siri and Hold Assist
Siri can place a call to a contact or number, and Hold Assist can notify you when a live agent comes on the line after hold. Neither Apple page describes Siri talking to the business for you, so treat it as a convenience, not a substitute. Check Apple’s Hold Assist page for supported devices and regions. (Apple, Apple)

Other assistants
OpenAI’s documented phone feature is an AI that answers inbound support calls about its own products. It can’t submit certain requests or guarantee follow-up. (OpenAI) The Samsung material we found was a legacy Galaxy S9-era manual covering Bixby contact dialing, which isn’t evidence of current agentic calling. (Samsung)
