Blockchain-based wallets, programmable payments and settlement could help software agents transact autonomously, but that remains an emerging thesis—not evidence that agent payments are already a large market. The available sources do not identify the two stocks named in the headline, and they do not verify a statement by “top VC investors” supporting its wording. Naming two stocks as the article’s picks would therefore be guesswork.
What the blockchain-rails thesis actually says
An AI agent can carry out a task without needing a blockchain. The case for blockchain rails is narrower: if software must make payments or settle transactions on its own, it may benefit from infrastructure that lets it hold funds, initiate programmable transfers and settle without relying on a person to approve each step.

Coinbase Institutional’s March 31, 2026 analysis describes wallets, payment rails and settlement layers as foundational infrastructure for agent activity. It distinguishes these from other parts of the proposed stack, such as coordination and integrity layers. Franklin Templeton’s 2026 commentary likewise argues that agents could increase blockchain use and demand for network tokens. Those are institutional views about a possible future, not proof that agent-driven transactions have reached mass adoption.

Why use blockchain if ordinary payments already work?

BlackRock’s 2026 commentary discusses stablecoins as a possible early route for machine-native payments, as well as x402 and other payment approaches. It also describes the ecosystem as nascent, with agentic payment activity and compute-market liquidity still limited. The practical question is not whether a blockchain can process a transfer, but whether agents and the services they use adopt a reliable payment method at meaningful scale.
What stablecoin market figures do—and do not—show
BlackRock reported that stablecoin circulating market capitalization exceeded $300 billion as of September 2026, and that adjusted stablecoin transaction volume exceeded $11 trillion during 2025. These figures describe the broader stablecoin market. They are not measures of payments made by AI agents, and they do not establish that agent activity accounts for a material share of stablecoin use.

Which two stocks does the headline mean?
The two issuers cannot be identified from the available coverage. A separate Motley Fool article published April 11, 2026 discusses Coinbase as a possible company-level exposure to the agent thesis, but it is a different article and does not establish Coinbase as one of this headline’s two picks—or identify a second company. Franklin Templeton’s discussion of possible demand for a network’s native cryptocurrency is also a different kind of exposure: owning a cryptoasset is not the same as owning shares in a company that provides services to crypto users.
For that reason, there is no substantiated pair of “stocks to buy now” to present here. A company can be associated with crypto without earning significant revenue from agent payments; a forecast about future blockchain use is not a finding that a particular share is attractively valued today.

How to assess a company if its name is verified
Before treating an issuer as an AI-agent or blockchain-rails investment, examine its actual business exposure rather than relying on a thematic label. Useful questions include:
- Revenue exposure: Does the company earn revenue from wallets, payment processing, settlement or other relevant infrastructure, and is that exposure material to current results?
- Dependence on crypto markets: How much does its business rely on trading activity, token prices or customer demand that can fluctuate with crypto markets?
- Risks: What do its filings say about balance-sheet exposure, regulation and other risks to its business?
- Valuation: Does the share price make sense in light of the company’s present business and risks, rather than a scenario that may take time—or fail—to develop?
- Evidence of adoption: Is the investment case supported by measurable agent-related activity, or mainly by projections about what agents might do?
These checks do not establish that any particular stock is a buy. They help separate present-day business fundamentals from a forward-looking infrastructure thesis.

What is established, and what remains uncertain
Institutional commentary supports the idea that agent wallets, programmable payments and settlement could become useful infrastructure. It does not establish that AI agents need blockchains, that agent payments have reached significant scale, or that two particular public companies are the right investments. A project-founder interview, such as the Bitget-hosted conversation with Virtuals co-founder WeeKee Tiew, can explain how a project describes its own strategy; it should not be treated by itself as independent evidence of revenue, token value or competitive success.
The investment conclusion depends on facts that are missing here: the actual two issuers and the reasons the original article gives for selecting them. Until those are verified, the defensible takeaway is the distinction between a plausible infrastructure thesis and a substantiated stock recommendation.
