Secure an AhsayCBS server in layers: reduce its public attack surface, lock down the management plane, enforce strong identity controls, keep every server and client current, verify backup encryption and recovery, and maintain enough storage and power resilience to keep the service available. The urgent 2026 patch action is separate from incident response: Ahsay says the v10.3.4.0 update did not fully address CVE-2026-105133 and CVE-2026-105134, and affected partners should apply hotfix v10.3.4.45 and reboot after confirming applicability with current partner guidance.
This checklist distinguishes controls documented for AhsayCBS v9 from Runtime Options and security notices for v10. Check the documentation for the version actually installed before changing ports, policies, update behavior, or security settings.

1. Establish your security baseline before changing settings
Start with an inventory. Record the AhsayCBS version and hotfix level, operating-system version, server location, public and internal interfaces, DNS names, reverse proxies, firewall rules, enabled modules, backup destinations, administrator accounts, sub-administrators, backup users, and connected client versions. Keep the inventory with an owner and review date; an undocumented exception can quietly become your widest exposure.
- Identify which services must be reachable from the internet, from customer networks, and only from an administrator network.
- List every management URL and API endpoint, including those published through a load balancer or reverse proxy.
- Document where system home, user home, replication home, logs, and backup data reside.
- Record the last successful restore drill, the last patch, failed client updates, and unresolved security exceptions.
Do not assume that a setting documented for v9 has the same label or behavior in v10. Use the installed release’s administrator guide and Runtime Options page when the two differ.

2. Minimize network exposure and protect transport
Expose only required public ports
Ahsay’s Network and Firewall Settings documentation recommends exposing only TCP ports 80 and 443 publicly. Treat that as the starting rule, not permission to publish every port in the product’s port table. A v9 deployment may use additional ports for particular product functions, so verify which features are enabled and which paths they require before closing or opening anything.
- Map each listener to a documented AhsayCBS function.
- Keep client-facing traffic on the required public path, normally HTTP redirected to HTTPS and HTTPS itself.
- Place the administration panel behind a management network, VPN, bastion, or source-IP allowlist when customers do not need it.
- Remove stale firewall, NAT, reverse-proxy, and DNS records after testing the replacement path.
- Test a normal backup, restore, client registration, administrator login, and API integration from their real network locations.
Never close a port solely because it is absent from your current notes; first confirm whether replication, agentless workloads, client communication, or a reverse proxy depends on it.
Restrict the management console and API
In v10 Runtime Options, review IP allowlisting for both the management console and the API. Ahsay documents these restrictions as disabled by default, with no IP access restrictions applied by default. Define the administrator source ranges explicitly, then test from an allowed address and confirm that an emergency administrator path exists before enforcing the policy.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallHostname restriction can limit which hostnames are accepted by the service. Enable it when your deployment and sub-administrator model support it, and include every legitimate name used by clients, administrators, certificates, and reverse proxies. A mismatch can look like an outage even though the server itself is healthy.
Enable session and denial-of-service protections deliberately
Runtime Options also include protection against session hijacking and DDoS protection. These controls are documented as off by default. Ahsay states that its DDoS option blocks malicious IP addresses for five minutes. Record the expected behavior, monitor false positives, and make sure help-desk or monitoring staff know how a temporary block appears during an incident.
Replace the test certificate
The bundled dummy certificate is for testing and evaluation, not production. Install a trusted certificate for every public management and client hostname, configure the complete certificate chain, and verify renewal before the old certificate expires. A trusted CA certificate is also needed for 2FA over HTTPS in the documented v9 configuration. Check certificate validation from a normal client, an administrator workstation, and any API or reverse-proxy host.
Review outbound mail and transport security
The v9 guide states that AhsayCBS supports SMTP with TLS 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2. That is a compatibility statement, not a recommendation to enable deprecated protocols. Use the strongest TLS versions supported by the installed AhsayCBS release and your mail service, require certificate validation where available, and restrict SMTP credentials and relay permissions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3. Control administrator and backup-user identities
Audit every privileged account
Review system administrator and MSP or sub-administrator accounts one by one. Record the person or service owner, role, authentication method, last use, source network, and business reason. Disable accounts that no longer have an owner, remove unnecessary privileges, and separate daily administration from emergency access where your operating model permits.

Backup and restore administration manages backup users and groups separately from the system administrator area. Apply the same ownership review to those accounts, especially accounts that can browse destinations, delete backup sets, change retention, or initiate restores.
Enable two-factor authentication
Use the Basic settings area to configure 2FA for applicable administrators, then enroll backup users individually where required. Verify that the production HTTPS certificate works before enrollment; users must be able to reach the service through a trusted HTTPS path. Test recovery procedures, including replacement phones or lost authenticators, without leaving a permanent bypass account.
Apply password policy through policy groups
Use policy groups rather than ad hoc per-user changes. Ahsay documents controls for password age, configurable complexity, and password history. The documented history option remembers 30 previous passwords. Choose age and complexity values for your organization’s risk, regulatory obligations, and support capacity instead of treating one vendor setting as a universal ideal.
Recommended Free Tools
Be careful with the Default settings policy group: Ahsay says changing it can affect every user assigned to that group. Duplicate the group when a separate population needs different settings, and record which users inherit each policy.
Review login evidence
The backup-user documentation records the date and time of the last successful login and provides IP and client context. Make this a recurring review, not an occasional investigation. Unexpected geography, a new client type, or a login outside an administrator’s schedule should trigger verification of the account owner, source address, recent policy changes, and backup activity.
4. Patch the server, then track client updates
Handle the October 2026 vulnerability notice
As of the October 10, 2026 Ahsay alert, v10.3.4.0 did not fully address CVE-2026-105133 and CVE-2026-105134. Partners running affected v10 versions are directed to install AhsayCBS v10.3.4.45 and reboot. The hotfix download requires partner-portal access.
- Record the installed version, build, operating system, and recent maintenance window.
- Check the current Ahsay partner advisory for the deployment’s exact applicability and prerequisites.
- Back up configuration and confirm that you can access the console and operating system if the reboot fails.
- Apply v10.3.4.45 when the advisory confirms it is required, then reboot as directed.
- Verify the reported build, administrator login, client connections, scheduled jobs, alerts, and a test backup and restore.
- Keep the change record, installer or hotfix identifier, reboot time, validation results, and any exceptions.
The public alert does not provide CVSS scores, technical exploit details, or a complete affected-version matrix. Do not infer those facts, and do not treat v10.3.4.0 alone as proof that these two CVEs are resolved.

Separate patching from compromise response
Ahsay’s October 9 clarification warns that upgrading does not repair consequences of a compromise that happened before the upgrade. If compromise is possible, preserve logs and relevant system evidence, isolate affected systems as appropriate, rotate credentials and tokens through an approved incident process, and involve qualified cybersecurity professionals. A hotfix can close a vulnerability; it cannot establish that an intruder did not persist, alter backup data, create accounts, or copy credentials.

Make client Auto Update observable
The v9 guide says client updating depends on clients being powered on and connected, scheduler services running, accounts enabled, the client GUI being closed, and network or security software allowing downloads. Ahsay states that v7-or-later clients check every 15 minutes or when the client-agent service restarts; some NAS clients require manual updates. Confirm the behavior for the installed client versions rather than assuming all clients follow the same schedule.
- Export or otherwise record client versions and last-contact times.
- Flag clients that repeatedly fail downloads or remain offline past the maintenance window.
- Track an owner and remediation date for each exception.
- Investigate endpoint security, proxy, DNS, account, and scheduler failures before marking a client compliant.
5. Protect backup data and prove that restores work
Verify encryption settings and exceptions
Ahsay’s administrator guide allows default encryption settings for backup sets. Confirm the setting for every applicable module and policy group, and verify how existing sets were created rather than assuming a new default retroactively encrypts old data.
The guide documents an important exception: encryption does not apply to Run Direct Hyper-V and VMware backup sets even when the encryption feature is enabled. Treat those sets as an explicit exception in your data-protection register and apply compensating controls such as storage access restrictions, host security, and carefully limited administrator permissions.
Control destinations through policy
Policy documentation allows administrators to control which destinations users can select and which backup-set options are available to user groups. Remove destinations that are no longer approved, separate production and test storage, and review who can create, change, or delete destination definitions.
Run restore drills
Use Ahsay’s restore-drill feature to perform trial restores and check for corrupted backup files. Schedule drills that reflect real priorities: a representative file set, a full system or application where feasible, and the storage locations used during an emergency. A configured drill is not proof of recoverability unless someone reviews failures, investigates the cause, and records corrective action.
Decide whether Recycle Bin protection fits
Ahsay notes that files deleted by retention policy or data-integrity checks can otherwise be unrecoverable. Its Recycle Bin setting can preserve deleted files for a configured period. Balance that safeguard against storage capacity, retention obligations, privacy requirements, and the risk of an administrator or attacker deleting large volumes. Monitor capacity so the safeguard does not fill the storage used for active backups.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Size the server and storage for secure availability
A secure configuration is not useful if backup growth fills the operating-system disk or causes the server to crash. Ahsay’s published v10 requirements and recommendations are:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| Item | Vendor figure | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB minimum; 24 GB or more recommended for AhsayCBS/AhsayPRD | Use as the documented baseline for the specified version and workload, not as an independent performance guarantee. |
| Installation space | 2 GB minimum | Reserve additional operational headroom beyond the installation minimum. |
| Log space | 10 GB recommended | Monitor growth, retention, and forwarding so logs remain available during investigations. |
| Free memory | At least 50% recommended in the cited requirements | Measure under real backup and restore load; agentless Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Cloud File operations increase processing and memory demand. |
Separate system, user, and replication storage
Ahsay advises assigning dedicated disks for system home, user home, and replication home where possible. Backup-data growth can fill the operating-system disk and destabilize or crash the server. Alert before capacity becomes critical, test expansion procedures, and ensure that replication and logs do not compete unpredictably with active backup writes.
Plan physical resilience
For a physical deployment, Ahsay advises considering a more powerful server as the business grows, hardware redundancy such as redundant power supplies, and a UPS. The guidance does not specify a UPS model or capacity; size it from the server’s measured load, runtime requirement, and shutdown behavior. Test graceful shutdown and recovery rather than treating installation alone as resilience.
Quick Recap
7. Use deployment decisions consciously
| Decision | Security benefit | Operational trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Public client access versus IP-restricted management | IP restriction reduces exposed management paths. | Administrators and support staff need approved source networks or an emergency access method. |
| v9 guidance versus v10 Runtime Options | Version-specific controls and labels are less likely to be misapplied. | Procedures must be maintained separately until the deployment is standardized. |
| Physical server versus virtual or cloud placement | Physical redundancy and UPS support local availability; virtual or cloud platforms may offer different infrastructure protections. | Each model changes responsibility for power, hardware, networking, snapshots, and recovery testing. |
| Patching versus incident response | Patching closes a known vulnerability; investigation addresses possible prior access. | Both require maintenance time, evidence preservation, and clear ownership. |
8. A practical review cadence
Every change window
- Confirm version, hotfix, certificate, firewall, and Runtime Options changes.
- Test administrator access, one client backup, one restore, and monitoring alerts.
- Record failed checks and an owner.
Monthly
- Review privileged accounts, 2FA enrollment, last successful logins, policy-group membership, and client-update failures.
- Check storage growth, log retention, Recycle Bin usage, and restore-drill results.
- Review public listeners and reverse-proxy rules against the approved inventory.
After a security alert or suspected compromise
- Follow the incident plan and preserve evidence before making destructive changes.
- Obtain current Ahsay partner instructions and determine exact version applicability.
- Contain unauthorized access, investigate with qualified professionals, and rotate affected credentials.
- Apply the required hotfix, reboot, validate operations, and continue monitoring for signs of persistence.
Final administrator checklist
- Only documented, required services are publicly reachable; TCP 80 and 443 are the normal public baseline.
- Management-console and API allowlists, hostname restriction, session-hijacking protection, and DDoS protection have been reviewed rather than left at defaults.
- A trusted production certificate is installed and renewals are tracked.
- Administrators and backup users have appropriate 2FA, password policy, roles, and owners.
- The server is on the current applicable Ahsay build; for the October 2026 notice, v10.3.4.45 is the directed hotfix for affected deployments, not v10.3.4.0 alone.
- Client update failures are visible, assigned, and remediated.
- Encryption settings and documented Run Direct Hyper-V and VMware exceptions are recorded.
- Restore drills, Recycle Bin decisions, destination policies, storage capacity, dedicated disks, and power resilience are tested and reviewed.
- Any suspected earlier compromise has an investigation plan separate from patch installation.
