After 28 Years, a Rediscovered Ocarina of Time Glitch Adds an Invisible Twinrova Fight

A long-circulating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time glitch has returned to the spotlight because it can make Twinrova appear to die, vanish, and then return as an invisible rematch roughly seven minutes and 30 seconds later. Defeating the hidden rematch can award another Heart Container, allowing the reward cycle to be repeated without leaving the Spirit Temple arena.

What the Twinrova glitch does

The behavior occurs during the Twinrova battle in the Spirit Temple. The finishing blow must connect while a reflected fire or ice attack is still traveling from Link’s Mirror Shield toward Twinrova. A charged attack reflected through the shield is one reported way to create the timing.

The game then appears to register Twinrova’s defeat, but the encounter has not fully ended. Twinrova disappears from view. After approximately seven minutes and 30 seconds in the arena, a sound signals that she has returned. The rematch is invisible and begins with low health. Defeat her again and the game can generate another Heart Container. The sequence can reportedly be repeated before Link leaves the room.

How to reproduce it

  1. Reach Twinrova. Enter the Spirit Temple boss arena in a version of Ocarina of Time that preserves the relevant behavior.
  2. Prepare the finishing hit. Reflect a fire or ice attack with the Mirror Shield and arrange for the final sword slash to land while the reflected projectile is still in flight. Reports also describe using a particularly strong attack, such as a charged shot reflected through the shield.
  3. Confirm the apparent defeat. Twinrova disappears as the game processes the finishing sequence.
  4. Wait in the arena. Remain in the room for about seven minutes and 30 seconds. A sound indicates that the invisible rematch has begun.
  5. Fight the unseen boss. Track the encounter through sound, hit reactions and the arena’s combat behavior. The returning Twinrova has low health, according to the reports.
  6. Collect the additional reward. A successful second defeat can produce another Heart Container. Repeat the wait-and-fight cycle while staying in the room if the behavior continues.

Why reports call it “two major boss fights”

The headline wording needs precision. Available accounts document one normal Twinrova battle followed by a second, invisible Twinrova encounter. They do not show two different named bosses being redesigned, and they do not establish that another boss has the same bug.

#1 Best Overall
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
  • This is the world edition. It has different packaging but is fully authentic and works on US region 3DS systems.
  • The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest - a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.
  • “E10+”, w/Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence, Suggestive Themes

What changes is the practical structure of the fight: a single boss room can become a normal battle plus one or more hidden rematches, each potentially adding another Heart Container. That is a dramatic change to the reward loop, but it is not evidence that Nintendo permanently altered two separate bosses.

Is this really a new discovery after 28 years?

Ocarina of Time was released in 1998, which explains the 28-years-later framing used by 2026 coverage. The safer description is “rediscovered” or “brought back into circulation,” not “found for the first time.” Zelda Universe noted that demonstrations of the same behavior can be traced to a YouTube video more than a decade old.

The renewed attention is still notable. Ocarina of Time has been examined extensively by glitch hunters and speedrunners, yet a bug capable of extending a major boss encounter and duplicating its Heart Container reward remains surprising to many players.

Can you farm Heart Containers with it?

Reports say yes, within the limits of the encounter. Each successful invisible rematch can create another Heart Container, and the cycle can be repeated before leaving the arena. This is an exploit of the game’s encounter state, not a normal reward method intended by the game’s designers.

The reports do not establish a safe maximum number of repetitions, whether every rematch always produces the item, or what happens if the player exits, saves, resets or otherwise interrupts the sequence. Treat the process as experimental and keep a separate save if preserving a clean playthrough matters.

Version and platform caveats

No complete compatibility table has been established by the available reporting. Whether the glitch works can depend on the original Nintendo 64 release, a re-release or emulated version, the regional or revision-specific build, and whether that release preserves the underlying bug.

Rank #3
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (w/ Master Quest)
  • Play the original Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
  • Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
  • Hardware and release: Original Nintendo 64 software may behave differently from later ports, re-releases or emulation.
  • Regional revision: Timing and encounter logic can vary between revisions, so success on one cartridge or release does not prove universal compatibility.
  • Input precision: The finishing slash and reflected projectile must overlap in a narrow sequence, making practice and timing important.
  • Waiting tolerance: Seven minutes and 30 seconds is approximate; the sound cue, rather than a stopwatch alone, is the useful confirmation.
  • Bug preservation: A modern release may have corrected, changed or otherwise failed to retain the behavior.

If the rematch never appears, first verify that the finishing slash landed while the reflected attack was still traveling. Then check the exact game revision and platform, repeat the setup with a charged reflected attack, and remain in the arena until the audio cue. The available reports do not identify a universal fix for failed attempts.

What players should take away

The important finding is not that two distinct bosses were secretly rebuilt. It is that Twinrova’s defeat state can apparently be interrupted by precise attack timing, leaving an invisible, low-health encounter queued in the same room. Waiting roughly seven and a half minutes can bring that encounter back, and defeating it may add another Heart Container.

That makes the story a striking rediscovery from a 1998 game, while the older demonstrations mean “new after 28 years” should be read as renewed circulation rather than proof of an unprecedented first discovery.
