Luke Ryan has reportedly urged Fremantle to recruit free-agent forward Bobby Hill and Geelong defender Lawson Humphries. The report establishes a recruitment suggestion—not an offer, negotiation or agreement. The West Australian’s accessible page confirms the story’s headline, author Josh Kempton and publication date, 3 October 2026, but its article text is subscriber-only; its search summary supplies the limited description above. The West Australian’s report.
What the report says—and what remains unknown
The available summary characterizes Hill as a free-agent forward and Humphries as a Geelong defender, and says Ryan urged the Dockers to pursue both. It does not provide Ryan’s exact words, his reasoning, where or how he made the suggestion, or any details of a Fremantle approach. Those points cannot be treated as established without the full article or the underlying interview.
In particular, the report does not show that Fremantle has made either player an offer, that negotiations are under way, or that either player wants to move. A recommendation to recruit someone is not evidence of a deal.
What is separately reported about Lawson Humphries
Zero Hanger reported on 30 September 2026 that Fremantle was interested in Humphries and that Geelong knew of that interest. The same report said Humphries was contracted to Geelong through the end of 2028. This is media reporting, not a public confirmation from either club. Zero Hanger’s report.

That earlier reporting provides context for why Humphries is linked with Fremantle, but it does not confirm Ryan’s reported recommendation or establish that the Dockers made a bid. His reported contract status is also distinct from Hill’s free-agent status: the available material does not explain what recruitment mechanism Fremantle might pursue for either player.
Peter Bell had also publicly recommended Humphries
On 11 September 2026, SEN reported that former Fremantle football boss Peter Bell had recommended the club target Humphries. Bell cautioned that he had no insight into the players’ interest: “There’s just three names. I have no insights into whether any of them would be interested.” The comment is Bell’s view, as reported by SEN—not inside information about player intentions. SEN’s report.
