Aeon SR is a ReShade add-on designed to bring temporal upscaling to older PC games that lack native DLSS, FSR, XeSS or even temporal anti-aliasing. A PC Games Hardware test found that it could make Fallout 3 look steadier in motion, but enabling upscaling also cut frame rates substantially. It is a possible image-quality workaround, not a guaranteed performance upgrade.
What Aeon SR does
According to PC Games Hardware’s report published October 6, 2026, Aeon SR is a ReShade add-on that applies temporal upscaling to games that were not built with modern upscalers in mind. The report says ReShade generates the optical-flow information or motion vectors needed for temporal calculations, and that the HUD is automatically excluded from those calculations.

The reported API coverage includes DirectX 8, 9, 11 and 12, OpenGL, and Vulkan. That breadth does not establish compatibility with every game using those APIs: the article does not provide a complete game-by-game list, so results may depend on the particular title and setup.
Which upscalers and optional features are described?
The ReShade menu lets users choose DLSS, FSR or XeSS. The October 6, 2026 report says FSR 4 is available on supported GPUs, with FSR 3.1 used otherwise. In the described setup, the output resolution is the resolution previously selected in the game.

Neural rendering is optional. The report describes enabling it by adding nvngx_dlssnr.dll and says a Blackwell GPU is required for the original rendering. It does not establish that this optional feature is necessary to use the core upscaling functions.
How the reported installation works
- Install ReShade for the game with add-on functionality enabled.
- Keep the default shaders selected during setup; the report says not to skip them.
- Extract the Aeon SR archive into the same directory as the game.
- Start the game and select and enable DLSS, FSR or XeSS in the ReShade menu.
- For optional neural rendering, add
nvngx_dlssnr.dllas described in the report.
The article does not identify a specific Aeon SR release, ReShade version, license or verified direct download address. It also does not provide a confirmed project repository link. Avoid assuming that an archive or DLL found elsewhere is the same build discussed in the report.

What the Fallout 3 test found
PC Games Hardware used Fallout 3 as its example. The game was set to 3,840 × 2,160 pixels in the launcher, multisample anti-aliasing was disabled, and the highest vanilla detail setting was selected. The report describes distracting pixel shimmer during movement without temporal upscaling and a steadier image with the tested methods.
The trade-off was performance: frame rate fell substantially when upscaling was enabled. The report says the performance mode cost nearly as much performance as running at native resolution. Optional neural rendering caused little additional frame-rate loss in that test. No universal FPS figure or multi-game performance series was published, so these observations should not be treated as a prediction for other games, GPUs or settings.

When Aeon SR may make sense
- Consider trying it if a compatible older game has distracting flicker or instability in motion and you are willing to trade frame rate for a steadier image.
- Check the result in your own game rather than relying on API support alone; the published report does not verify every title.
- Do not expect a speed boost. The reported Fallout 3 test found a substantial performance cost, including in performance mode.
- Treat neural rendering as a separate option. It adds a DLL requirement and the report’s stated Blackwell GPU condition for the original rendering.
