The AEG L8WEC166R is a freestanding, front-loading washer-dryer with a 10 kg wash capacity and a 6 kg cotton drying capacity. It is worth considering if you want one machine for both washing and drying, your space matches its dimensions, and you can find a unit at a fair price. The main obstacles are practical rather than technical. AEG Australia marks the exact model as discontinued, one UK business retailer lists it as out of stock, and its performance claims come from AEG itself rather than from independent testing of this model.
What the L8WEC166R is and what its capacities mean
AEG places this machine in its 8000 series, and the UK retailer listing calls it the AEG ÖKOMix 8000 Series L8WEC166R. Wash and dry capacities are separate figures. A machine rated 10 kg for washing is not rated 10 kg for drying, so plan a wash-and-dry load around the smaller number.

| Drying, synthetics | 4 kg | User manual only |
Specifications and where the sources disagree
Most published specifications agree, but two figures do not. The maximum spin speed differs between AEG’s own documents, so quote the source beside the number whenever you compare it.

|---|---|---|---|
| Maximum spin speed | 1600 rpm | 1600 rpm | 1550 rpm |
The reason for the difference is not established in the sources reviewed. Treat 1600 rpm as the manufacturer’s marketing figure and 1550 rpm as the figure printed in the manual’s technical table, and do not average them.

Dimensions also need careful reading. The manual gives a body depth of 630 mm and a total depth of 660 mm, while the regional product page summarises the machine as 600 × 660 × 850 mm (width × depth × height). Measure to 660 mm, then allow room for the hose, the door opening and ventilation at the back and sides.

| Width | 600 mm | 600 mm |
| Height | 850 mm | 850 mm |

The care features AEG describes
AEG’s materials name four technologies. Each is a manufacturer description, and none is backed by comparative testing of this model in the sources reviewed.
- ÖKOMix premixes detergent and then softener with water before they enter the drum. AEG’s product copy puts it this way: “Advanced OKOMix technology blends detergents and then softeners with water before they enter the drum.”
- DualSense offers programmes tailored to different fabrics. The manual includes cotton, synthetics, delicates, wool/handwash, outdoor and wash-and-dry programmes.
- ProSense adjusts the cycle to the load. The manual lists ProSense adjustments among the factors that change its laboratory consumption figures.
- ProSteam is AEG’s steam function.
What these features do in daily use, compared with rival machines, is not established by the evidence available. Judge them as described features, not proven results.

Programmes, energy and water figures
Energy and water numbers for this model come from two AEG documents and one retailer, each with a different basis. Use them to understand the machine, not to predict your bill.
Manual reference: 10 kg Cottons Eco at 60°C
The user manual reports 0.86 kWh, 61 litres of water and an approximate duration of 265 minutes for a 10 kg cottons Eco programme at 60°C. These are laboratory values. The manual says they vary with the quantity and type of laundry, ambient and inlet-water temperature, water pressure, voltage and ProSense adjustments. The Eco setting extends wash time to reduce energy use, so a longer cycle is part of the trade-off.
AEG UK brochure: annual figures (2020)
| Use | Annual energy | Annual water |
|---|---|---|
| Washing only | 172 kWh | 12,200 L |
| Washing and drying | 1,340 kWh | 23,000 L |
These figures appear in AEG’s UK specification brochure dated 18 May 2020 and are tied to the test framework that applied at the time. They are not current rating figures.

Energy class labels
The UK brochure shows energy efficiency class A. The UK retailer listing separates washing and drying classes and shows B and E. These come from different rating contexts, so do not combine them into a single grade. For a purchase decision, check the energy label supplied with the machine in your market and its stated test basis.

Installation requirements
The manual sets out the connection requirements below. Have a qualified installer handle the electrical and water connections, and read the manual’s safety section before installing.

- The manual says only AEG-approved accessories maintain the appliance’s safety standards.
The manual PDF used for these figures is hosted by a third-party site, Central Properties, and the document’s publication date is not stated. Check the manual copy against the AEG support page before relying on it for installation.

Availability and price
Availability is the biggest practical question for this model. AEG Australia labels the L8WEC166R as discontinued and links to a replacement product. A UK business listing for the model, Currys Business, currently shows it out of stock. Those are two channels at one point in time, not a verdict on the whole market.
No current, authoritative price was verified for this review, so check live listings before committing. When you buy, confirm the listing names the L8WEC166R exactly, and check whether the unit is new, refurbished or second-hand.
Ratings and what they do and do not prove
The AEG Australia product page displays a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 83 reviews. That figure is the manufacturer’s display, and the sources reviewed do not establish how reviews were sampled or verified. No independent laboratory review or controlled comparison of this exact model was identified, and no long-term reliability dataset was found. Read the rating as a sign of customer satisfaction on AEG’s own page, not as independent evidence of performance.

Who should buy it, and who should not
This machine suits a household that needs one appliance for both washing and drying in a limited space, and that can confirm the dimensions, cold-water supply and electrical requirements above. It is a poor choice if you need to dry more than 6 kg of cottons in one go, if you need a verified efficiency figure for your region, or if you cannot confirm a new or in-stock unit at a sensible price. In that case, compare current like-for-like washer-dryers on wash and dry capacity, programme durations, total depth and clearance, warranty and service coverage, and current availability.
Parts, accessories and service
AEG’s support page for the L8WEC166R lists routes to parts, accessories, manuals and repair service. Because the model is discontinued in Australia, confirm parts availability in your region before buying a machine, and check that any part is compatible with the exact model number.
