Its defining change is ENERGYRIM, a carbon-infused structure that replaces the Adios Pro 4’s ENERGYRODS and makes room for more LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam underfoot. adidas claims 9% greater energy return than the Pro 4; that is a manufacturer claim, not proof of a faster race result. A Runner’s World reviewer found the ride cushioned, responsive and slightly firmer, but noted that the narrow arch may trouble wide-footed runners.
What is the Adizero Adios Pro 5?
The Adios Pro 5 is adidas’ premium race-day road shoe, aimed at runners competing on roads rather than everyday training. adidas announced global availability on September 22, 2026, with a launch retail price of $275 in the US and €275 in Europe. The company says it is available through adidas.com, the adidas app and selected retail partners; availability and pricing can vary by market.

For a shoe at this price, the central question is whether its updated platform suits your race-day needs. The Pro 5 retains a high-stack, low-drop design, but changes the carbon structure beneath the foam and revises the upper and heel.

ENERGYRIM replaces ENERGYRODS
The most significant design change is the carbon-infused ENERGYRIM, which replaces the Pro 4’s ENERGYRODS. adidas describes the rim as a way to tune stiffness for stability and propulsion while allowing a greater volume of LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam directly beneath the foot. The company associates the new structure and updated foam with a claimed 9% improvement in energy return versus the Pro 4. That percentage is adidas’ claim; the available sources do not establish an independent head-to-head race-performance result.

Updated foam and race-day geometry
adidas lists a 39 mm heel, 35 mm forefoot and 4 mm drop. The tall stack and small heel-to-forefoot difference describe the shoe’s geometry, not how every runner will experience its ride. adidas says the Pro 5 is 23 g lighter—about 12%—than the Pro 4, based on its 2026 comparison.
How does the Pro 5 feel to run in?
Runner’s World reviewer Jeff Dengate, who tested the shoe before its announcement, describes a ride that is slightly firmer than its predecessor but still cushioned and responsive. In his experience, the carbon rim and extra foam made the shoe feel more planted. These are one reviewer’s subjective impressions, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee that the shoe will feel the same to every runner.

- The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 Running Shoes are elite performance runners engineered to push your limits. Crafted from lightweight mesh and rubber upper for breathable support and a close fit. It has a carbon-infused energy rods strategically place
- Synthetic rubber lining and rubber insole.
- Lace-up closure.
- Regular fit.
- Signature three-stripe design on the side.
The cited coverage does not establish a controlled performance comparison against competing shoes or independent long-term durability results. adidas says the outsole is designed to deliver lightweight traction and grip with improved durability over distance, but that is a manufacturer-stated aim rather than independent durability evidence.
Will the fit work for your feet?
The adidas US product listing recommends ordering your usual size. Runner’s World reviewer Jeff Dengate reports that the arch remains narrow and may cause blisters for wide-footed runners. That warning is particularly relevant if you have had pressure or rubbing around the arch in other race shoes. Fit is personal, so the usual-size recommendation should not override how the shoe feels on your foot.

| Detail | Published figure | Source and basis |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 177 g average | adidas, 2026; sample shoe in UK size 8.5. |
| Weight | 175 g | T3, 2026; reported for UK size 8.5. T3 describes the reduction from the Pro 4 as about 25 g, or 12.5%; this differs from adidas’ weight comparison. |
| Heel / forefoot stack | 39 mm / 35 mm | adidas, 2026. |

| Launch retail price | $275 / €275 | adidas, announced September 22, 2026; US and euro launch prices. |
Weight figures are not interchangeable: the official adidas figure and T3’s report are both for UK 8.5 but differ by 2 g. Runner’s World separately lists 6.1 oz for men’s size 9 and 5.3 oz for women’s size 7; those are publication-listed specifications for different sample sizes.

The upper uses LIGHTLOCK 2.0, with engineered ventilation zones, internal support bands and revised heel construction. adidas says these changes are intended to improve race fit and comfort while reducing weight. The outsole combines LIGHTTRAXION with Continental rubber; adidas describes the intended benefits as traction, grip and improved durability over distance.

Who should consider the Adios Pro 5?
- Consider it if you want a dedicated road-racing shoe and are interested in adidas’ revised carbon-and-foam platform.
- Check the fit carefully if you have wide feet or are sensitive to arch pressure, given the narrow-arch concern reported by Runner’s World.
- Compare it with alternatives if price, weight, geometry or ride feel is decisive. The available sources do not provide a controlled comparison with competing shoes, so published specifications and one reviewer’s feel report cannot establish that it is the best option for every runner.
