The headline 1,000Hz figure is not a QHD mode: it trades away image detail for a higher refresh rate. For most players who want both a sharp picture and very fast motion, 540Hz at QHD is the more balanced setting; the 720p mode is a specialized option for prioritizing refresh above resolution.
What the Acer Nitro XV273U F5 actually offers
The XV273U F5 is a 27-inch IPS gaming monitor with a native resolution of 2560×1440 (QHD). Acer specifies a maximum refresh rate of 540Hz at QHD and a separate DFR mode that reaches 1,000Hz at 1280×720. Those are distinct operating modes, not specifications that combine into 1,000Hz at QHD. Acer’s product announcement and U.S. specifications identify the monitor and its modes.

| Mode | Resolution | Maximum refresh rate | Practical tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native QHD | 2560×1440 | 540Hz | Higher image detail with an exceptionally high refresh rate |
| DFR | 1280×720 | 1,000Hz | Higher refresh rate, but visibly less image detail than native QHD |
Tom’s Hardware reviewer Christian Eberle states, “The XV273U F5’s 1,000 Hz mode happens at 1280×720 resolution.” The review describes the 720p image as softer. Although 1280×720 is an even fraction of the panel’s QHD pixel dimensions, that scaling relationship does not restore the fine detail of the native mode. Tom’s Hardware’s review is the source for that assessment.
Is 1,000Hz at 720p useful?
It is useful only if the extra refresh rate matters more to you than resolution and the game or workload can take advantage of it. On a 27-inch screen, 1280×720 is a substantial step down from 2560×1440: edges and small details look less defined. The 1,000Hz mode is therefore best understood as a specialist setting for someone deliberately choosing maximum refresh, not as the monitor’s everyday high-quality mode.
#1 Best Overall
- Quality Visuals: The KG271U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provide the smoothest gaming experience.
- Up to 180Hz: The 180Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of up to 180Hz, Acer Gaming Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be all rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG271U Gaming Monitor.
- New Depths of Color Accuracy: is monitor is ideal for color-critical projects producing accurate colors, supporting DCI-P3 95%. An amazing monitor for graphic designers, photographers, and film editors.
The 540Hz QHD option already pairs a very high refresh rate with the panel’s full native detail. Unless you have a specific reason to favor 1,000Hz over image clarity, it is the sensible starting point. The available modes and Tom’s Hardware’s observations do not establish that every player will perceive a meaningful competitive benefit from 1,000Hz; that depends on the game, system, and individual sensitivity.
Motion handling, image quality, and HDR
Motion clarity
Tom’s Hardware judged the monitor’s motion handling favorably and reported effective backlight strobing and overdrive. Blur reduction can improve perceived motion clarity, but it is a separate consideration from the refresh-rate number: the review’s favorable assessment does not mean every blur-reduction setting is ideal for every user or game.

- 27” QHD IPS DISPLAY: Enjoy stunning detail and vibrant color with a 2560x1440 Quad HD resolution on a 27-inch IPS panel, offering wide viewing angles and precise image quality.
- 240HZ REFRESH RATE & 0.3MS RESPONSE TIME: Take competitive gaming to the next level with a blazing-fast 240Hz refresh rate (via DisplayPort) and ultra-responsive 0.3ms MPRT for minimal blur and maximum clarity.
- ADAPTIVE-SYNC SUPPORT: Say goodbye to screen tearing and input lag with Adaptive-Sync for fluid, uninterrupted performance across both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs.
- TILT ADJUSTMENT: Customize your setup with -3° to +21° tilt range for ergonomic positioning.
- ENHANCED GAMING FEATURES: Includes Shadow Control, Game Mode presets, and a user-friendly graphical OSD menu for fast and intuitive performance tuning.
Color and contrast
Acer specifies 95% DCI-P3 color coverage and Delta E below 2. In its own testing, Tom’s Hardware measured around 90% DCI-P3 coverage and contrast above 2,000:1, and reported good color after calibration. These are different kinds of figures: Acer’s are manufacturer specifications, while the coverage and contrast numbers are measurements reported by that reviewer, not guaranteed results for every unit or setup.
HDR
The monitor carries VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification. However, Tom’s Hardware found that HDR did not provide more contrast than SDR and listed the absence of extra HDR contrast as a drawback. The certification and peak-brightness specification do not, by themselves, establish that HDR will deliver a dramatic contrast improvement in this display.

Who should consider the XV273U F5?
- Consider it if you want an unusually high refresh rate at native QHD and value the option to experiment with an even faster, lower-resolution mode.
- Think carefully if you expect 1,000Hz to work at 2560×1440, need USB ports built into the monitor, or want HDR to add substantially more contrast than SDR.
- Choose your mode by priority: use 540Hz at QHD for detail and speed together; use 1,000Hz at 720p only when maximum refresh takes priority over sharpness.
Tom’s Hardware praised motion handling, contrast, calibrated color, and blur reduction, while noting premium pricing, limited HDR contrast improvement, and the lack of USB ports. Those are the review’s findings and judgments; the cited materials do not provide a direct test against a named competing monitor.
