Acer Aspire 16 AI Review: The 16-Inch Laptop I Keep Reaching For

The Acer Aspire 16 AI reviewed by PCWorld is a capable everyday laptop that is unusually light for a 16-inch machine. Its 16:10 OLED touchscreen, broad port selection and responsive performance make it appealing for work and media; its 300-nit screen, take-some-adjustment keyboard and good-but-not-class-leading battery result are the main trade-offs. These findings apply to the specific Intel Core Ultra 7 355 configuration tested, not every laptop sold under the Aspire 16 AI name.

Which Acer Aspire 16 AI configuration was reviewed?

PCWorld’s October 5, 2026 review covers an Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor 355 system with Intel Arc 140V graphics, an Intel AI Boost NPU rated up to 49 TOPS, 16GB LPDDR5X memory and a 512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD. The review lists its price at $1,279.99 at the time of review. The accessible review does not give a complete retail model number, so check the exact processor, display, memory and storage on a retailer listing before comparing prices or assuming it is the same unit. Acer uses Aspire 16 AI for several distinct product families. Its May 2025 announcement lists Intel A16-52M/A16-52MT, AMD A16-61M/A16-61MT and Snapdragon A16-11M/A16-11MT variants. Family options include displays up to 120Hz, OLED panels, up to 32GB LPDDR5X and up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 storage; those are family-level maximums, not specifications shared by every SKU. Acer notes that configurations and availability vary by region. The reviewed Core Ultra 7 355 system should not be confused with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V family in that announcement. What are the screen and portability like?

The tested laptop has a 16-inch, 1920×1200 OLED touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 60Hz refresh rate, 300-nit rating, and claimed 100% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB coverage. PCWorld reviewer Ashley Biancuzzo praised its rich color and contrast for video, and found the extra vertical space useful for reading and scrolling. Her reservation was brightness: 300 nits felt a little dimmer than she wanted. The review confirms the touchscreen is there, though she personally relied more on the touchpad and keyboard.

At 3.23 pounds, the reviewed configuration is light for a 16-inch laptop. That combination of a roomy display and relatively easy carrying is central to why Biancuzzo found it comfortable to keep reaching for. It is still a large-screen computer, rather than a compact ultraportable.

How does it perform for everyday work?

Biancuzzo reported responsive performance with her light daily workload and no slowdowns. In PCWorld’s 2026 testing, it scored 7,135 in PCMark 10. The same review reports 6,581 for an Acer TravelMate P2 14 and 6,103 for a Dell XPS 13, while noting that the compared systems use different processor tiers. These are review-reported results, not a universal ranking of the laptops or a prediction for every workload.

How long does the battery last?

PCWorld measured 11 hours and 47 minutes in a UL Procyon battery benchmark in 2026. The reviewer characterized that result as nearly a full workday and good, though not class-leading. It is a benchmark result, not a guarantee of real-world runtime; workload, settings and use affect how long a charge lasts.

Acer publishes longer figures for a specifically identified A16-I71M WUXGA OLED configuration with a 65Wh battery: 36.5 hours of video playback, 16 hours of web browsing and 19.5 hours in MobileMark30. Those are Acer manufacturer results from different scenarios and a different identified setup, so they are not directly comparable with PCWorld’s Procyon result. Acer cautions that actual battery life can vary considerably by model specifications, apps, power settings, conditions and features. Acer’s US Aspire 14/16 AI page

Are the keyboard and ports practical?

The backlit keyboard includes a number pad, which may be useful if your work involves frequent number entry. Biancuzzo found the keyboard’s size took some getting used to and felt large for her hands. She also wished the laptop could charge from either side.

What should you make of the “AI” features?

The reviewed system’s NPU is rated up to 49 TOPS, but AI capabilities were not the review’s main reason to recommend the laptop. Biancuzzo said Live Captions was the only AI feature she personally used. Treat the AI label as a description of the platform, not evidence that AI tools are the machine’s standout everyday advantage.

Is the Acer Aspire 16 AI worth buying?

For someone who wants a 16-inch screen without carrying a typical heavy large laptop, the reviewed configuration has a persuasive mix of portability, colorful OLED viewing, useful connectivity and smooth everyday performance. Its strongest use case is productivity and media, with light gaming as a limited extra.

Whether it is a good buy depends on the price and exact SKU in your region. PCWorld’s $1,279.99 figure is the price listed when its October 2026 review appeared, not a guaranteed current price. Acer’s US Store listing for the Snapdragon A16-11M-X0LW showed $799.99 and out of stock when accessed on October 7, 2026; that is a different system with a Snapdragon X X1-26-100 processor, 16GB memory, 512GB storage and a WUXGA IPS display, so it is not a price comparison for the reviewed Intel OLED unit.
