The “under $100” part of the headline is not a fixed fact about this model. It comes from a third-party storefront that showed a $63.99 sale price for a dock with a different port mix, and nothing in that listing confirms it is the same product or sold by an authorized Acer channel.
What the under-$100 claim actually rests on
The only sub-$100 figure found for an Acer 13-in-1 dock comes from a storefront page titled “Acer 13-in-1 USB-C Docking Station,” at acergadget-store-global.com. That page shows a $63.99 sale price against a $71.99 regular price. Sale prices change without notice, and the page does not establish that the seller is an authorized Acer reseller. Acer’s own listings for the 13-in-1 dock do not show a price in the sources reviewed, so the headline should be read as a retailer’s price at one point in time, not a lasting product price.

Why the $63.99 listing is a different dock
The storefront listing describes a dock built around three HDMI outputs rather than two HDMI plus DisplayPort and VGA. The table below sets the two descriptions side by side. “Not stated” means the listing does not mention that feature, not that the feature is absent.

Because the video configurations differ, a laptop that works with one may not get the same display setup from the other. Buy only from a listing that states the HP.DSCAB.015 model number and shows the two-HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA layout.

- Confirm the laptop’s USB-C port supports video output. Look up the laptop’s specification sheet for “DisplayPort Alt Mode” or “USB-C video output.” The storefront listing says its dock needs this feature, and the same requirement applies to any USB-C video dock. A port that only charges or transfers data will not drive a monitor through the dock.
- Check the laptop’s supported external display count and resolution. The dock’s outputs are not the limit; the computer is. Many laptops support one or two external displays and cap the resolution or refresh rate per output. A dock with three or four outputs can still only deliver as many displays as the host supports.
- Match the outputs you need to the dock’s ports. If you want two monitors, decide whether they should use HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA. VGA tops out at full HD at 60Hz on the official model, so it is a poor choice for a 4K display.
- Check the power requirement against the laptop. Confirm the laptop’s charger wattage and whether it charges over USB-C before counting on the dock to power it. The official 100W figure describes the dock’s power-delivery input, not guaranteed charging for every laptop.
Power delivery: what is and is not established
Acer rates the official dock’s USB-C power-delivery input at up to 100W. The sources do not establish how much power a given laptop receives in every setup, whether the dock is sold with a power adapter, or how charging behaves when several USB devices draw power at once. Check the full product listing for an included adapter, and check the laptop’s manual for the charging wattage it expects. Do not assume the dock will charge a particular laptop at full speed.
Not the same dock: Acer D501
Acer’s US site also sells a D501 USB-C dock, which is a separate model and not the 13-in-1 minidock. Its US product page describes up to 60W USB-C charging, Gigabit Ethernet, and six USB-A ports, and it warns that the computer can limit how many displays the dock supports. Use the D501 page at acer.com/us-en only as a comparison if you are choosing between Acer docks, and do not treat its specifications as those of the 13-in-1 model.

- Buy the model you have verified: HP.DSCAB.015, with the two-HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA layout.
- Treat any price under $100 as a current retailer price to recheck on the day you buy.
- Confirm the seller’s authorization before paying, since the sub-$100 listing does not establish it.
- Verify your laptop’s USB-C video support, display count, and charging needs before you order.
If the dock you find has a different port mix, compare it on video outputs, resolution, power delivery, host compatibility, Ethernet, and card-reader needs. Those are the dimensions that decide whether the dock will do what you need.
