1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsInclusive design can help a business reach customers who encounter barriers in websites, content, forms, and other digital experiences. Accessibility can also improve usability and support innovation and brand strength—but those are potential benefits, not guaranteed revenue gains. The practical starting point is to identify barriers across the customer journey, apply standards suited to the context, and keep evaluating and improving the experience.
Why accessibility belongs in marketing
Marketing depends on people being able to find, understand, and act on information. If a page cannot be navigated with a keyboard, a video’s information is unavailable without sound, or a form is difficult to use with assistive technology, some potential customers may be unable to complete the journey. Accessibility is therefore not just a final check on a campaign asset; it affects whether people can engage with the experience at all.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) describes several possible business benefits of digital accessibility: innovation, stronger brand presence, improved user experience, broader market reach, and reduced legal risk. These are reasons to take accessibility seriously, not a promise that any particular redesign will increase sales or prevent legal claims. Outcomes depend on the audience, the barriers addressed, implementation quality, and other factors.
W3C’s business-case resource, updated July 15, 2024, says at least one billion people—15% of the world’s population—have a recognized disability. It also gives an extended-market estimate of 2.3 billion people controlling $6.9 trillion in annual disposable income. These are W3C’s published estimates with distinct definitions; they are not a forecast of the addressable market or likely revenue for an individual company. See W3C’s business case for digital accessibility for context.

How inclusive design can improve the customer journey
Inclusive design considers differences in ability, context, and circumstance while a product or service is being designed and improved. Accessibility work makes that intent concrete by finding and addressing barriers in real interactions. For marketing, review the full journey rather than only the homepage or a single campaign.
- Discovery: Can people perceive and understand campaign content, including images, video, and text?
- Navigation: Can they move through menus and pages using different input methods, including a keyboard?
- Evaluation: Are product details, pricing, and calls to action presented in a way people can find and understand?
- Conversion: Can people complete forms, sign up, or check out, and identify and correct errors?
- Follow-up: Can customers access confirmation messages, account information, and support?
W3C’s introduction to web accessibility emphasizes that the web should be accessible to people with diverse abilities. It attributes this statement to Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web: “The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect.” Read W3C’s introduction to web accessibility.

How to make marketing more accessible
1. Find barriers in the journeys that matter
Choose key customer tasks—such as reading a campaign page, comparing products, submitting a lead form, or completing a purchase—and walk through them. Look for obstacles in content, navigation, media, forms, and interactive elements. Include people with relevant access needs in evaluation where possible; a checklist alone cannot tell you how every audience experiences the journey.
2. Use standards that fit the context
For web content, consult the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Your organization may also need to consider other requirements based on geography, procurement, or the services it provides. Microsoft, for example, says its accessibility conformance materials take account of WCAG, U.S. Section 508, and European EN 301 549. Which rules apply depends on the organization and context; this general overview is not legal advice. Check current standards and legal requirements before making a compliance decision.

3. Include accessibility throughout design and delivery
Consider accessibility while planning content and interaction, not only after a campaign launches. Review design choices, implementation, and content together: a technically sound page can still leave important information inaccessible, and accessible content can be undermined by a difficult interface. Microsoft’s guidance on inclusive software describes accessibility as a lifecycle concern and frames exclusion as a mismatch between a person’s needs and the product, service, or environment.
4. Evaluate, fix, and repeat
Use tools to help identify issues, then validate findings and assess the experience with people and assistive technology. Microsoft describes Accessibility Insights as an open-source tool that helps designers find issues before they reach customers. A tool can support evaluation, but the cited guidance does not establish that any one automated tool can prove a digital experience fully accessible. Track the issues found, their severity for the task, fixes made, and remaining barriers so the next review has a clear starting point.

5. Measure outcomes without confusing reach with revenue
Where useful, monitor customer-experience and journey measures such as task completion, form errors, or abandonment alongside accessibility findings. Interpret changes carefully: a broad estimate of the disability market does not show how much incremental revenue a particular campaign or redesign will produce. Avoid claiming a conversion lift unless you have evidence for that specific change and audience.

Screenshots can help teams document how a page appeared during a review, share visual findings, or compare a change. They do not show whether content is available to assistive technology or whether an interaction works for a person using a keyboard, so treat them as documentation rather than an accessibility verdict. For automated website captures, ScreenshotNeo is an API and MCP server for developers; its clean-shot workflow removes known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture.

What accessibility marketing can—and cannot—promise
Accessibility can remove barriers that prevent people from engaging with digital marketing, and W3C identifies plausible benefits for user experience, reach, innovation, brand, and legal risk. It cannot guarantee a particular return for every organization. Treat accessibility as ongoing product and service quality work: understand people’s needs, apply the standards relevant to your context, evaluate real journeys, and use measured outcomes to guide improvements.
