Abelina is a hand-crafted, non-violent adventure platformer from solo developer Gabe Askew and publisher Indieformer. It is planned for Windows PC on Steam in Q1 2027, with a public demo planned for November 2026. The game follows Vasily through a surreal afterlife where climbing, jumping, route-finding, exploration and conversations replace combat.
Release date, demo and platform
Steam lists Abelina as not yet available, with a planned release in Q1 2027. No exact launch day has been announced. A contemporaneous announcement says a public demo is planned for November 2026, although its exact release date and contents have not been specified.

The release window and platform come from the Steam listing; the demo timing was reported by MonsterVine. There is currently no announced boxed edition, soundtrack product, guide, art book, merchandise or collectible.
What kind of game is Abelina?
The official press kit describes Abelina as “a hand-crafted afterlife adventure. You died, and you woke up in a strange world you’re only beginning to understand.” The developer’s site characterizes that afterlife as neither heaven nor hell, but “a primitive new world.”

Vasily has already died and has been living with a small settlement of other after-lifers. A tragedy sends him toward the wilderness beyond the settlement. Companions who were left behind gradually catch up at campfires, and conversations with settlers and travelers reveal the setting’s history, Vasily’s memories and the unresolved baggage he carries into this new existence.
How progression works without combat
Abelina is explicitly non-violent. Steam says, “There is no combat, instead you explore a vast world and a mature story about carrying life’s baggage into the afterlife.” Nothing encountered can be fought, so progress depends on movement, observation and decisions about where to go next.

Traversal is the central challenge
- Climb, jump and choose routes through increasingly demanding terrain.
- Follow branching paths that can dead-end or lead to alternate approaches.
- Return to look for another route when a passage is sealed rather than defeating an enemy.
- Use camp as a recurring point where companions and conversations develop.
Steam’s movement description says terrain becomes more difficult the farther Vasily travels from camp. That makes navigation and platforming the main source of tension instead of an attack, weapon or boss system.

Exploration and timed interactions
The developer’s materials also describe gathering resources and using timed hits to break open gourds. These interactions add a timing challenge to exploration, but they are not presented as combat. The available information does not specify a crafting tree, inventory capacity or a separate character-leveling system.

A surreal, hand-crafted world
Abelina’s environments are designed around unusual natural imagery rather than realistic landscapes. Lantern-like plants hang overhead, coral pools glow from below and some groves appear lit by their own flora. The result is an atmospheric setting that can be beautiful, strange and darkly humorous at the same time.
Creatures you may encounter
- A rabbit-cat combining familiar features from both animals.
- Pale apes known as komin.
- Airplane-sized moths with star-like wings.
- Phosphorescent goats.
- Giant beetles that can be ridden.
These creatures support the game’s exploration-focused identity: they are part of the world’s mythology and ecology, not a list of enemies to clear. SteamDB’s metadata places the project in adventure, 3D platformer, exploration, atmospheric, dark fantasy, dark humor, mythology and nature categories.

Story structure and themes
The settlement gives Vasily a temporary home, but its residents tend gardens, carve masks and generally avoid confronting what their world means. Leaving for the frontier changes the rhythm of the story. Instead of delivering every explanation at once, Abelina uses encounters, campfire conversations and the places Vasily reaches to surface questions about memory, purpose and responsibility after death.

Who is making Abelina?
Gabe Askew is credited as Abelina’s solo developer and is identified in the press materials as a CG-animation veteran. Indieformer is the publisher. Ryan Holladay is credited for music and sound. The official press kit provides the game’s one-line description and production credits, while Askew’s official site outlines the world and its non-violent exploration design.
What has not been announced
Beyond the Q1 2027 target, no fixed release date or launch price is public. The announced version is a digital PC release through Steam; there is no confirmed console version or physical edition. The publisher and developer have not announced a commercial soundtrack, printed guide, art book, branded merchandise or collectible. Those omissions may change later, but they are not part of the current announcement.
Why Abelina stands out
Abelina’s defining choice is to make traversal the complete gameplay loop rather than a way to reach the next fight. Branching terrain, route decisions, timed resource interactions and conversations provide its progression, while the hand-crafted afterlife supplies the visual and thematic identity.
