AANT Home Contents Plus is a sum-insured contents policy for renters, with accidental damage and motor burnout included automatically, according to AANT. CHOICE’s published specifications also list up to 24 months of temporary accommodation, subject to a limit of 20% of the sum insured, and legal liability cover up to $20 million for covered incidents in Australia. The exact cover, excesses and exclusions depend on the current policy documents and your Certificate of Insurance. A current price or value-for-money verdict is not available from the published comparison information.
What is AANT Home Contents Plus for renters?
It is contents insurance: you nominate a sum insured for eligible belongings, rather than insuring the building you rent. CHOICE identifies Insurance Australia Limited as the provider. AANT says it distributes the product as an authorised representative under the CGU brand. The product page is for the Northern Territory; check eligibility and terms for your address before relying on these details.

This review concerns the renters version of Home Contents Plus, not a landlord’s building cover. The public descriptions identify a range of insured events and supplementary benefits, but the current Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), Certificate of Insurance and selected sum insured determine what applies to an individual policy.

Accidental damage and motor burnout
AANT says Plus includes accidental damage and motor burnout automatically. Those features distinguish it from Standard, according to AANT’s product description. “Automatically included” does not mean every accidental loss or appliance failure is covered: CHOICE lists exclusions, including electronic or mechanical malfunction, and the PDS sets the operative definitions and conditions.

Insured events
CHOICE’s public specifications list cover for theft and attempted theft, fire and bushfire, flood and rainwater run-off, storm and cyclone, storm surge, tsunami, explosion, earthquake, vandalism, riot or civil commotion, and specified leaking or escaping liquid. These are insured events subject to policy terms, waiting periods and exclusions—not a guarantee that every loss involving one of these causes will be paid.
Examples of waiting periods shown in CHOICE’s specifications are 72 hours for bushfire or grassfire, 14 days for flood, and 72 hours for rainwater run-off and storm-related events. CHOICE also lists no cover for action of the sea. The applicable policy wording is needed to determine how an event and any exception apply to a particular claim.
Liability and additional living expenses
CHOICE lists legal liability up to $20 million for covered incidents in Australia involving a named insured or eligible family members living with them. The limit is not a general payment for any dispute or damage; the policy’s liability terms determine whether an incident qualifies.
For temporary accommodation and additional living expenses, CHOICE lists a maximum period of 24 months or a limit of 20% of the sum insured, whichever limit applies, and describes the benefit as payable on top of the sum insured. AANT describes Plus as providing two years of temporary accommodation. Check the PDS and certificate for the exact trigger, eligible expenses and applicable cap.
Other published sublimits
CHOICE’s 2026 public policy specifications list the following benefits and limits. They are published specifications, not a substitute for the current policy documents:
| Benefit | Published limit or basis |
|---|---|
| Contents in the open air | Up to 20% of the sum insured |
| Debris removal | Up to 10% of the sum insured |
| Food and prescription medication spoilage | Up to $2,000 |
| Visitors’ contents | Up to $2,500 |
| Jewellery, artworks and collections in listed categories | Limits of up to $2,500 overall for the listed categories |
AANT also says Plus has higher limits on some inclusions, including food spoilage and landscaping, compared with Standard. The available product-page description does not establish every precise limit; consult the PDS rather than assuming the table covers all inclusions.

What is optional rather than automatic?
Portable contents cover is optional, not an automatic Plus benefit. CHOICE describes it for specified item groups, with cover up to $10,000 per item, geographic limits and a $250 excess. CHOICE also lists optional cover for specially listed valuables. Confirm the eligible item categories, territory, excess and any specified-item requirements before choosing either option.

The publicly listed exclusions are examples, not a complete exclusion summary. CHOICE identifies exclusions or limits including theft or damage by the insured, family, residents, or people entering with a resident’s consent in specified situations. It also lists restrictions for liquid escaping from shower recesses or bases, including damage to the item that leaked. For accidental damage, its examples include some damage to sporting equipment, musical instruments or firearms while in use, as well as specified water-entry, animal and chemical-cleaning situations.
CHOICE says the insurer must be informed if the home will be unoccupied for more than 60 days, and describes conditions involving garden care, mail and weekly checks. Because policy conditions can affect cover, verify the current wording and contact the insurer before a planned extended absence.
Rank #4
How are claims handled?
CHOICE says claims can be lodged online or by phone 24/7. Depending on the claim and policy terms, settlement may be by repair, replacement or payment, subject to the sum insured or an applicable sublimit. The description does not establish how a specific claim will be assessed or resolved; the policy documents and individual circumstances govern the outcome.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you tell whether AANT Plus is good value?
Not from the public price evidence described by CHOICE. CHOICE says the insurer did not share price data for its review, and some ratings and comparison scores are available only to members. There is therefore no substantiated basis here to call the policy cheap, expensive or a price winner.

CHOICE’s 2026 comparison describes AANT Home Contents Plus (renters) as a standard sum-insured policy and a white-label IAG policy, with cover identical to other brands in that comparison set but not necessarily identical pricing. That is a statement about CHOICE’s comparison set, not proof that premiums are the same or that the products are identical in every respect.

How to compare it with another renters policy
Use the same sum insured and compare the policy documents and quote for your actual address and circumstances. Focus on the differences that can change both protection and claim costs:
- Events and waiting periods: Check flood, storm, bushfire and escaping-liquid cover, including relevant waiting periods and exclusions.
- Accidental damage and motor burnout: Establish whether each is included by default or requires an optional selection, and read the exclusions.
- Liability: Compare the limit, who is insured and the geographic scope.
- Temporary accommodation: Compare the time limit, monetary cap, qualifying circumstances and whether payment is additional to the sum insured.
- Portable belongings and valuables: Compare item and category limits, geographical restrictions, listing requirements and excesses.
- Price and excess: Obtain quotes on equivalent cover and compare standard excesses as well as the premium.
AANT directs customers to its Home Contents Insurance page for product information and the PDS. CHOICE’s AANT Home Contents Plus (renters) review provides its public specifications and notes the limits on available price and rating information. Its broader 2026 contents insurance comparison supplies the comparison-set context.
