Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, however, brings a different platform profile: an eight-core CPU, Adreno 730 graphics, Qualcomm’s X65 5G modem-RF system and an 18-bit image signal processor. These are database aggregates, not results from a controlled, matched-phone test, so they cannot establish which chip will feel faster in every handset.
Specifications at a glance
| Specification | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 | Apple A15 Bionic |
|---|---|---|
| CPU layout | 1× Cortex-X2 up to 3.0 GHz; 3× Cortex-A710 up to 2.5 GHz; 4× Cortex-A510 up to 1.8 GHz | 2× Avalanche up to 3.23 GHz; 4× Blizzard up to 2.02 GHz |
| CPU core count | 8 | 6 |
| GPU | Adreno 730 | Apple-designed GPU; four- and five-core device variants are listed |
| Process information | Qualcomm lists 4 nm; NanoReview attributes manufacturing to Samsung | NanoReview lists 5 nm and TSMC |
| Platform features | X65 5G modem-RF system, 18-bit ISP, 8K HDR capture, and AI and gaming features | Features depend on the Apple device; the sources here do not establish a directly comparable official Apple product specification |
CPU and GPU details, along with the foundry attributions, are listed by NanoReview. Qualcomm’s product page independently lists the Snapdragon’s 4 nm process and maximum CPU speed. A process-node label alone does not establish which chip is faster or more power-efficient in a phone.

Geekbench 6 CPU comparison
| Geekbench 6 result | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 | Apple A15 Bionic |
|---|---|---|
| Single-core average | 1,662 | 2,315 |
| Multi-core average | 4,188 | 5,753 |
| CPU samples reported | 54 | 37 |
NanoReview’s comparison page reports these Geekbench 6 averages and sample counts. The A15 is ahead in both listed averages. They are aggregated results from the page, not measurements from a single pair of phones tested under identical conditions.

Graphics score and stability
| 3DMark Wild Life Extreme result | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 | Apple A15 Bionic |
|---|---|---|
| Score listed by NanoReview | 2,255 | 2,854 |
| Stability listed by NanoReview | 63% | 76% |
These values are also from NanoReview’s dynamic comparison. The A15 has the higher listed score and stability value, but neither number is a guaranteed gaming frame rate or a prediction of sustained performance in every phone. The source does not establish matched cooling, software or test conditions across all contributing devices. GPU configuration matters too: the page lists Adreno 730 for Snapdragon and four- and five-core A15 GPU variants.

How to interpret cross-platform benchmarks
Benchmark results are meaningful only when the test, version and measurement method are comparable. NanoReview explicitly cautions that its AnTuTu results for iOS and Android should not be compared directly. Its Geekbench GPU compute results use Metal for one platform and OpenCL for the other, which the page likewise says are not directly comparable. Those scores should not be combined into a single cross-platform verdict.
Even a valid chip-level benchmark does not capture every handset variable. Phone cooling, firmware, software, display resolution and manufacturer tuning can affect real-world performance. The aggregate results do not support naming a universal device-level winner.

Platform capabilities and launch context
Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on November 29, 2021, describing it as a premium 5G mobile platform and naming Android manufacturers expected to adopt it. Its launch announcement lists the X65 modem-RF system, a commercial 18-bit ISP, 8K HDR capture and gaming features. Qualcomm’s generational graphics claims in that announcement compare Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with its predecessor; they are not a direct comparison with A15.

The two chips also sit in different device ecosystems. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is an Android platform adopted by phone manufacturers, while A15 Bionic is used in Apple devices. As a result, features and performance depend partly on the handset built around each SoC; the available sources do not provide a directly comparable official Apple feature specification.

Which chip comes out ahead?
On the reported figures here, A15 Bionic leads the Geekbench 6 single- and multi-core averages and the listed 3DMark Wild Life Extreme score and stability. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s defining specification differences are its eight-core Cortex CPU layout, Adreno 730 GPU and Qualcomm platform features such as X65 connectivity and the 18-bit ISP. Treat the scores as directional evidence rather than a substitute for comparing specific phone models and their sustained performance.
