Yes, a Wi-Fi eGPU for Mac is now a product rather than just a concept: WiCi advertises the WiCi One, a GPU system accessed over Wi-Fi 7, with a virtual GPU driver for macOS. But it is not the same as Apple’s documented eGPU support, which is limited to Intel Macs with Thunderbolt 3. WiCi’s listed prices start at $2,599, and its performance figures are vendor-published rather than independently verified. Before buying, check that your Mac, macOS version, app and network all fit the product’s specific requirements.
What is a Wi-Fi eGPU, and does one exist for Mac?
A conventional eGPU puts a desktop graphics card in an enclosure connected directly to a computer, usually over Thunderbolt. WiCi describes a different arrangement: its WiCi One provides dedicated GPU compute on a local network over Wi-Fi 7, with a virtual GPU driver listed for macOS, Windows and Linux. The company also describes Driver, SDK and API modes.

That makes WiCi One a real advertised product, but the vendor’s macOS driver claim should not be read as Apple’s endorsement or as a guarantee that every Mac and application will work. WiCi’s technical material and an August 25, 2026 preprint frame the system as GPU workload offloading over Wi-Fi; they do not establish performance or latency for every network or workflow. Verify compatibility for your exact Mac model, operating system, application and intended use before placing an order.

Will an eGPU work with your Mac?
Apple’s documented route: Intel Mac with Thunderbolt 3
Apple Support’s “Use an external graphics processor with your Mac” says that a Thunderbolt 3-equipped Intel Mac running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 or later can access an eGPU. Apple’s guidance covers apps that use Metal, OpenGL or OpenCL, but it warns that not all apps and games support eGPU acceleration. Supported use cases include professional apps, some 3D games when an external display is connected directly to the eGPU, and VR apps with the headset attached to the eGPU.

Apple silicon Macs
Sonnet’s compatibility guidance says Macs with Apple silicon do not support eGPUs under its documented macOS support. That guidance is about conventional eGPU compatibility, not proof that a separate vendor’s virtual-GPU system will or will not work. For WiCi One, seek confirmation for your exact Mac and macOS version rather than assuming the vendor’s macOS listing covers your setup.
Check the whole chain, not just the port
- Mac: identify whether it uses Intel or Apple silicon and confirm the required connection or network arrangement.
- macOS and driver: check that the driver’s current release supports your macOS version and Mac model.
- Application: verify that the app and the specific workload can use the external or virtual GPU. An available driver alone does not mean every app will accelerate.
- Display and workload: distinguish graphics output from compute. Apple’s guidance describes conditions for some games and VR use; WiCi describes GPU compute on a local network. Those are not interchangeable compatibility claims.
- Network: because WiCi’s approach depends on Wi-Fi, confirm what network conditions it requires and whether your workflow tolerates any added latency. The cited product material does not establish a universal latency or performance result.
Sonnet’s compatibility notes also flag a macOS 14 hot-unplug issue and advise against hot unplugging. Check current guidance for your specific enclosure, GPU and OS before disconnecting hardware.

How much performance does WiCi claim?
WiCi publishes results for games, video exports, 3D rendering and AI inference. The examples below are its own benchmark figures, not independent measurements or a controlled comparison with a wired eGPU. They also do not predict results on every Mac, application version or Wi-Fi network.
| Workload | RTX 5060 Ti edition | RTX 5090 edition | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cyberpunk 2077 | 80 fps | 110 fps | WiCi says 4K Ultra with DLSS 4; vendor-published benchmark |
| Blender Cycles | 2,900 samples/min | 6,000 samples/min | Vendor-published benchmark |
The figures are useful as a record of what WiCi claims, but they do not answer whether your Mac can run the relevant driver, whether your app supports the system, or how it will perform on your network. The cited materials do not independently validate these results or compare them with a wired enclosure.

Is a Wi-Fi eGPU worth buying?
It depends on whether the wireless arrangement solves a problem worth the cost—and whether the software path is confirmed for your setup. Wi-Fi access may be appealing if you want GPU compute without a direct Thunderbolt connection to the GPU system. But the cited material does not establish that wireless access will suit latency-sensitive work, every macOS app, or every Mac model.

- Consider WiCi One if you have confirmed support for your Mac, macOS release and target applications, and the listed price and shipping estimate make sense for your needs.
- Consider a wired enclosure if you have a compatible Intel Mac with Thunderbolt 3 and a supported GPU card. Sonnet’s Breakaway Box 750 series is one wired option; check Sonnet’s current card and OS guidance before buying. It is not a wireless substitute.
- Pause before buying if you rely on an app or workflow for which the vendor has not confirmed support, or if you need independent performance evidence. The cited sources do not provide a verified, like-for-like comparison with a wired eGPU.
What to verify before ordering
- Write down your exact Mac model, processor type and macOS version.
- Ask WiCi to confirm that its current macOS driver supports that model and OS release.
- Confirm that each application and workload you care about is supported, including whether it uses the GPU for display, rendering or compute.
- Check Wi-Fi requirements and ask how the system handles your network conditions and latency-sensitive tasks.
- Recheck the edition, listed price and shipping estimate on WiCi’s purchase page.
- If considering a wired eGPU instead, verify the enclosure, graphics card and macOS combination against current Apple and enclosure-maker guidance.
