The available sources do not verify that NTT DATA is in advanced talks to build an up-to-500 MW data center for Anthropic in Osaka. The 500 MW and approximately $6.3 billion figures instead appear in a market-research report describing a separate investment under consideration by Mubadala in Akita Prefecture. NTT DATA’s own profile lists Osaka among its Japan locations, but does not establish a new facility there or name Anthropic as a tenant.
What is—and is not—confirmed
The headline claim combines several details that the available sources do not substantiate as one project: NTT DATA as builder, Anthropic as customer, Osaka as the site, advanced talks, and a facility of up to 500 MW costing $6.3 billion. The sources reviewed do not verify those details together. That is not proof that private discussions do not exist; it means the claim should not be treated as confirmed on this evidence.

The figures have a different attribution in Arizton’s Japan data center market report, published in January 2026 and refreshed in September 2026. It describes Mubadala as considering an investment of up to ¥1 trillion, reported as approximately $6.3 billion, in a 500 MW AI data center project in Akita Prefecture. This is a market-research account of a possible investment, not a primary announcement confirming a deal or completed project.

| Detail | Akita proposal in Arizton’s report | NTT DATA expansion in Arizton’s report | Alleged Osaka project |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | Akita Prefecture | National expansion; no single site specified in the report excerpt | Osaka, as stated in the unverified claim |
| Investor or operator | Mubadala is reported to be considering an investment | NTT DATA | Not established by the sources reviewed |
| Customer | Not stated in the report | Not stated in the report | Anthropic is named in the claim but not confirmed by the available sources |
| Capacity | 500 MW, as a proposal figure | About 750 MW of additions, targeting around 1 GW total capacity | Up to 500 MW is not verified |
| Investment | Up to ¥1 trillion, reported as approximately $6.3 billion | At least ¥1.5 trillion through 2033, according to the report | $6.3 billion is not verified for an Osaka project |
| Status | Investment under consideration, according to a market report | Company-wide expansion plan, according to a market report | Advanced talks and project status are unconfirmed |
The Akita proposal and NTT DATA’s national capacity plan should not be collapsed into one development. In particular, the 500 MW and ¥1 trillion figures belong to the report’s Akita/Mubadala account; they are not evidence of an Osaka facility, an Anthropic tenancy, or a confirmed construction budget.

What NTT DATA’s Osaka footprint establishes
NTT DATA’s 2025 corporate profile lists Osaka and Kyoto among its Japan locations and describes its broader data center portfolio. This supports the narrower point that the company has a presence in the region. It does not establish a new Osaka project, its capacity, its customer, or negotiations with Anthropic.
What the official NTT Group results do—and do not—say
NTT Group’s May 8, 2026 financial-results release discusses data center business capacity and growth. The available material does not confirm an NTT DATA–Anthropic project in Osaka matching the claim. General discussion of data center growth is not confirmation of a particular site or customer.

What would establish the Osaka claim
Confirmation would require a reliable source tying the key details to the same project: NTT DATA’s role, Anthropic’s role as customer, an Osaka location, the proposed capacity and investment, and the project’s status. The sources available here do not establish that link. Until such evidence appears, describe the Osaka story as unverified, and attribute the separate 500 MW / approximately $6.3 billion proposal to the Akita account in Arizton’s market report.
