What “cheats” means in Requiem
A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence. Focus Entertainment describes Amicia and Hugo travelling south while seeking a cure for Hugo’s affliction. Asobo Studio developed the game and Focus Entertainment published it. Encounters are built around weapons, tools and supernatural powers, so “cheats” searches are usually more productively answered with control knowledge and resource tactics than with a code list.

How do you open the weapon wheel in A Plague Tale: Requiem?
Hold the wheel button for your platform, select a weapon or ammunition type, release it, then aim and use the selected item. The following are default bindings reported by Magic Game World; a remapped layout will override them.

Magic Game World’s page is a third-party controls reference dated February 20, 2022, not a guarantee that every later patch, accessibility preset or custom binding uses the same layout. Open the settings menu and inspect the controller or keyboard bindings if a button does nothing. On PC, check whether another application has captured the mouse buttons; on a controller, verify that the profile has not been remapped.
A reliable wheel sequence
- Move to cover or create enough distance to make a selection safely. Holding the wheel is useful for planning, but it does not guarantee that every mode or version fully pauses the game.
- Hold R1, RB or Tab, depending on platform.
- Choose the weapon with the listed weapon control, then choose its ammunition separately. Console players use the D-pad’s vertical and horizontal directions; keyboard players use the mouse wheel and the assigned E/Q or Mouse 4/Mouse 5 keys.
- Release the wheel, aim, and fire, throw or otherwise use the selected item. Watch the reticle and inventory indicator before committing a rare resource.
Practise this sequence in a safe area. The goal is to make a deliberate weapon-and-ammo choice rather than cycle blindly while an enemy is closing in.

Three high-value survival decisions
1. Take the Recycling Tool upgrade early
Push Square recommends prioritising the Recycling Tool. It lets you convert found items that exceed your current inventory capacity into upgrade materials instead of leaving the excess unused. Small conversions can accumulate toward another workbench upgrade.
This is a recommendation, not a proven universally optimal build. It is most useful when exploration regularly fills a resource category before you reach a workbench. Check your inventory before opening additional containers: if you are at capacity, the upgrade can turn otherwise wasted finds into progress. If you are still carrying very little, another immediate need may matter more for the next encounter.
2. Treat every knife as a two-purpose resource
A knife can perform an automatic kill in a suitable combat situation, but it can also open a Secret Chest. Push Square notes that knives are rare and that Secret Chests contain supplies and a workbench. Spending one now therefore exchanges a certain short-term combat result for a possible longer-term equipment and resource benefit.

Do not assume every chest or encounter can be handled identically. The correct decision depends on whether the immediate threat is unavoidable and whether the chest is accessible without spending the same knife. Mark your mental inventory after every use so you do not plan around a resource you have already consumed.

Push Square’s guide stresses that Requiem offers more ways to recover than the first game. The crossbow can change the combat equation, open space can let you disengage, and some situations allow a return to stealth. Being spotted is therefore a change in plan, not an automatic checkpoint reload.
First assess whether enemies have a clear path to you. Move toward cover or a route that increases distance, then select a weapon and ammunition combination suited to the new range. If the encounter stabilises, wait for an opening and resume stealth rather than firing continuously. If ammunition is disappearing without reducing the threat or creating an escape route, restarting from the checkpoint can be sensible; the point is to restart because the resource exchange is losing, not simply because an alert occurred.
Using the wheel as a combat decision tool
The wheel’s value is not just speed. It separates weapon choice from ammunition choice, allowing you to match a response to distance, enemy position and the resources you can afford to spend. Before releasing the wheel, ask three questions:

- What is the objective? Are you trying to remove a threat, create an escape window, or remain undetected?
- What is the cheapest tool that achieves it? Preserve rare items when a safer route or a common resource can do the job.
- What happens after the shot or throw? A loud action may solve one problem while drawing another enemy, while a missed attack can leave you with fewer options.
When a fight begins at distance, select the weapon first and then verify the ammunition indicator. When an enemy closes unexpectedly, hold the wheel only long enough to choose a response you can execute immediately. The controls guide does not establish that the wheel pauses every gameplay mode, so use cover and spacing instead of treating the menu as guaranteed invulnerability.

Resource planning around workbenches and exploration
Make capacity part of your route
Inventory capacity changes the value of exploration. Without the Recycling Tool, an item found while a category is full may provide no practical benefit. With it, overflow can become upgrade material. Before opening a cluster of containers, check which category is close to its limit and decide whether you need to spend something, return later or rely on conversion.
Use Secret Chests as planning landmarks
Secret Chests are not merely extra containers: Push Square identifies supplies and a workbench among their rewards. A chest can therefore change the next stretch of the level by restoring options and giving you an upgrade point. That is why the knife decision should be made with the next workbench in mind, not only the enemy directly in front of you.
Separate exploration risk from combat risk
When you are searching for supplies, avoid entering a fight simply because an enemy has noticed movement. Create distance, test whether a stealth route remains available and spend ammunition only when it advances your position. Conversely, if a route is blocked and the available cover is collapsing, preserving every item can cost more than using one decisively. The useful question is whether the resource creates progress, not whether spending it feels wasteful.

- Pause your movement, not necessarily the game. Take a quick visual inventory of cover, exits and enemy distance. Do not assume the wheel makes you invulnerable.
- Create space. Move through cover or toward a wider route where you can see the approach. The objective is to stop enemies from forcing a close-range exchange on their terms.
- Choose the least expensive effective option. Select the weapon and ammunition through the wheel, checking that the intended ammunition is actually selected.
- Look for a stealth reset. If enemies lose your position, stop attacking and return to a quiet route rather than continuing to spend resources.
- Restart only when the trade is bad. If you have lost ammunition without opening a route, defeating a key threat or reaching safety, a checkpoint restart may preserve more resources than pushing forward.
This sequence reflects Push Square’s advice, but no tactic guarantees the same result in every encounter. Enemy placement, your inventory and the difficulty setting can change the safest choice.
Settings and troubleshooting when controls do not match
The wheel will not open
- Confirm that you are holding the button rather than tapping it.
- Check the game’s controller or keyboard settings for a remapped wheel command.
- On PC, verify that Tab, the mouse wheel and the side buttons are recognised by the game and not disabled by a hardware profile.
- On console, test the button in another menu or game if you suspect a controller fault.
The wrong item is selected
- Remember that weapon and ammunition use separate directions or keys.
- After changing the weapon, change ammunition again; a weapon swap does not necessarily select the ammunition you intended.
- Release the wheel only after the highlighted choice is visible, then confirm the on-screen indicator before aiming.
You are running out of ammunition
Stop repeating an attack that is not changing the encounter. Fall back, attempt a stealth route, or use the crossbow or another available option when it creates a clear advantage. If none of those choices produces progress, reload the checkpoint and approach with a different resource plan. This is a tactical reset, not a cheat.
What the reliable guides can—and cannot—tell you
Focus Entertainment’s official game information establishes the sequel’s premise, the Amicia-and-Hugo journey and the broad mix of weapons, tools and supernatural powers. Its support index lists update notes through May 10, 2023, but does not establish a current control layout or current platform availability.
Push Square’s guide, dated January 2, 2024 and based on PS5, presents the Recycling Tool, knife conservation and flexible combat advice; it states that Xbox Series X|S and PC players can use the guide. Magic Game World’s February 20, 2022 page supplies the default wheel bindings. PowerPyx’s October 17, 2022 guide hub provides chapter walkthrough and dedicated paths for collectibles, knives, tools and secret armour if you need location-specific follow-up.
