The Paper Pro is oriented toward handwriting, reading and document annotation. Its official workflow supports importing PDF and EPUB files and exporting PDF, PNG and SVG files. This can suit people who mark up reading, review PDFs or keep handwritten notes, provided those formats cover the documents they use.
Working across devices
reMarkable lists companion apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, along with Chrome and Microsoft Office extensions. What it does not replace

For a focused writing device, compare how much you value fewer distractions against how much you need multitasking and app choice. For reading-first use, also consider which document and reading ecosystem you already rely on. The manufacturers’ feature descriptions do not establish which device has better handwriting latency, battery life or comfort in everyday use.
What to know about Connect and accessories
Connect and companion-app access
According to reMarkable’s product page, users without an active Connect subscription retain in the cloud only files used and synced during the previous 50 days, and lose access to note-taking in the mobile and desktop apps and other listed features. The same page says a 50-day trial is offered on pairing to users without an active subscription. These terms can change, so review the current Paper Pro product page before purchase if cloud history or companion apps are essential to your workflow.

reMarkable lists a Marker, USB-C cable and six replacement Marker tips in the Paper Pro box. The Paper Pro’s model-specific Marker is not compatible with reMarkable 2. If you are buying accessories separately, confirm that the listing names Paper Pro compatibility; optional accessories include folios and the Paper Pro Type Folio.
How to decide whether it is right for you
- Choose the Paper Pro if your main tasks are handwriting, reading and annotating supported documents, and you want a paper-like screen with color and fewer built-in distractions.
- Consider BOOX instead if split-screen work or a more tablet-like, app-oriented workflow matters more than a deliberately limited interface.
- Consider Kindle Scribe if your priority is a Kindle-centered reading and writing device.
- Check before committing that your files fit the supported import and export formats, that Connect’s current terms suit your cloud and companion-app needs, and that any separately purchased Marker or folio fits the exact model.
The Paper Pro is not a universal productivity tablet; it is a focused digital-paper option. Its appeal depends on whether your work benefits more from a large writing surface and constrained software than from broad app access.
