The “fsociety keyboard” is a fan-made wireless mechanical keyboard designed by Pamungkas Sumasta and documented on Hackaday.io—not a verified official Mr. Robot product. Its 2016 design combines Cherry MX switches with wireless modules, RFID/NFC, an OLED display, microSD storage and addressable RGB lighting. You can use its published design files as a starting point for a reproduction, but it is a more involved electronics and fabrication project than assembling a conventional keyboard.
What is the fsociety keyboard?
It is a DIY keyboard inspired by the fictional hacktivist group fsociety from Mr. Robot. Pamungkas Sumasta’s Hackaday.io project describes a portable wireless mechanical keyboard built around programmable electronics and dynamic, community-oriented features. The project is a fan build; the documentation does not establish that it was made or sold as an official television tie-in.

The creator framed the idea as more than a keyboard that “does the exact same thing every single time,” emphasizing “dynamic community driven features.” That ambition is reflected in the electronics: this is not simply a themed case around an ordinary office keyboard.

| Part or feature | Documented design |
|---|---|
| Mechanical switches | 62 Cherry MX switches |
| Keycaps | 61 Cherry MX keycaps |
| Controller | ATmega2560 |
| Lighting | 68 WS2812B addressable RGB LEDs |
| Wireless and connectivity | Bluetooth/HID, LoRa and Wi-Fi modules |
| Other electronics | RFID/NFC, OLED display and microSD |
The difference between the switch and keycap counts is part of the project’s stated inventory; do not assume every reproduction must use those exact quantities or layout without checking the design files.
How does it compare with a conventional mechanical keyboard?
| Area | FSociety design | Conventional mechanical keyboard |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless architecture | Project lists Bluetooth/HID alongside LoRa and Wi-Fi modules. | Varies by model; a basic wired keyboard may have no wireless features. |
| Programmability and embedded features | ATmega2560 controller, RFID/NFC, OLED and microSD are part of the documented build. | Often limited to key input and, on some models, onboard remapping or macros. |
| Switch feel | Uses Cherry MX switches; the exact switch variant and feel are not specified in the listed inventory. | Depends on the switch type and model. |
| Lighting | 68 WS2812B addressable RGB LEDs are listed. | May have no lighting or simpler backlighting, depending on the model. |
| Portability | Designed as a portable keyboard, though a finished reproduction’s size and weight depend on its construction. | Ranges from compact travel boards to full-size desktop keyboards. |
| Fabrication effort | Requires integrating electronics and mechanical parts and using the project’s design files to fabricate components. | Usually ready to use after purchase. |
| Replacement parts | Common Cherry MX-compatible parts may be easier to source than project-specific electronics or fabricated pieces. | Availability depends on whether the keyboard uses standard or proprietary components. |
Can you build a reproduction?
The project provides a substantial starting point. Its posted design and manufacturing assets include Altium and Gerber files, schematics, DXF and STEP files, and 3D PDFs. The files were posted on August 21–22, 2016, so treat them as documentation for a historical fan design rather than a guarantee of current parts availability or a turnkey build guide.

- YELLOW MECHANICAL LINEAR SWITCHES: With zero distance between actuation and reset points at 1.2mm and only 45g of force required — enjoy instant, rapid-fire inputs that are just as quiet thanks to built-in sound dampeners
- 6 DEDICATED MACRO KEYS: Expand the arsenal of commands with a set of easy-access macro keys that can be programmed to peferred playstyle
- MULTI-FUNCTION ROLLER and SECONDARY MEDIA KEYS: Pause, play, skip, and tweak everything from brightness to volume for ultimate convenience

- DOUBLESHOT ABS KEYCAPS: Using a doubleshot molding process to ensure the labeling never wears off while having extra-thick walls to withstand intense gaming
- Review the project documentation. Start with Pamungkas Sumasta’s Hackaday.io FSociety Keyboard project and inspect the available schematics and mechanical files before ordering parts.
- Confirm the design and fabrication requirements. Use the Altium/Gerber and mechanical files to determine what boards and physical parts you need to make or obtain. Check the files against the components you can source.
- Source the switches and keycaps. The documented build uses 62 Cherry MX mechanical switches and 61 Cherry MX keycaps. Confirm the switch variant, keycap compatibility and layout requirements against the project files before buying.
- Plan the electronics integration. The controller, wireless modules, RFID/NFC, OLED, microSD and LEDs make this an electronics integration project, not just a switch-and-keycap assembly. Check the project schematics for how the components are connected.
- Assemble and verify in stages. Test the keyboard input and electronics as you build rather than waiting until the enclosure is closed. The project’s feature set makes debugging individual subsystems more practical than troubleshooting the whole assembled device at once.
For switches, look for Cherry MX mechanical switches from a supplier that clearly identifies the switch variant and quantity. For caps, check that Cherry MX keycaps match the layout and stabilizer requirements in the design. Current listings, prices and stock vary by seller and region; the project documentation does not establish a current source or price.
Is there an official Mr. Robot keyboard or somewhere to buy the fsociety keyboard?
The available project documentation supports identifying this keyboard as a fan-made design, not as an official licensed retail product. It does not establish a current commercial manufacturer, MSRP or active listing for a finished keyboard. The practical route for someone who wants this particular design is to investigate the project files and build a reproduction, subject to parts and fabrication availability.

There is evidence that authenticated fsociety memorabilia has circulated in the prop-collectibles market: Prop Store recorded a November 12, 2021 sale of an fsociety mask and mould with a certificate of authenticity. That auction record is evidence of a collectible prop, not proof of a current licensed retail catalog or a keyboard product. See the Prop Store fsociety mask and mould listing for the historical record.
