Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYes—but only on a jailbroken PS5, and only some original Xbox games have been shown to boot. XPSemu, a PS5 port of the open-source xemu emulator, has a public Alpha 1 build, with developer-reported results ranging from playable moments to low frame rates. Xbox 360 emulation and a separate project for Windows games have also been demonstrated, but neither had a public build in VideoCardz’s October 3, 2026 report.
What works on PS5 now—and what is still in development?
“Xbox games” can mean different generations, so the distinction matters. XPSemu targets the original Xbox, not Xbox 360. The other two efforts are separate projects at an earlier stage.
| Project | Target | Status in VideoCardz’s October 3, 2026 report | Evidence available |
|---|---|---|---|
| XPSemu | Original Xbox | Public Alpha 1 build; boots some games on jailbroken PS5 systems. | Developer-reported examples, but no complete compatibility list in the report. |
| BrinoBlitz’s emulator | Xbox 360 | Shown running in an early form; remaining bugs were being addressed before release. No public build. | No compatibility list or public performance results. |
| PP, also called PS5 Proton | Windows games | Demonstrated as a separate project intended to run Windows games directly on a jailbroken PS5. No public build or repository. | Compatibility and performance were unknown. |
So the accurate short version is that original Xbox emulation is the only one of these three with a public build in the cited report. That does not mean the whole original Xbox library works, or that Xbox 360 and PC gaming are ready for general use.
How well do original Xbox games run?
The performance examples below were attributed to the XPSemu developer by VideoCardz; they are not independent benchmark results. They illustrate how much performance can differ between games and scenes, not a general guarantee about the emulator.

The same report says the emulated Xbox CPU thread used 85%–97% of its assigned PS5 CPU time in the developer’s observations, while the GPU remained mostly idle. Raising internal resolution to 3× or 4× reportedly had little effect on performance in many games. These are project-specific observations, not evidence that every title will behave similarly.
What XPSemu is—and what its features do not establish
VideoCardz describes XPSemu as a PS5 application built from xemu, with Xbox CPU emulation handled through QEMU’s TCG JIT and graphics rendered through xemu’s Vulkan backend using the open-source RADV driver available for PS5. The outlet also reports that Alpha 1 includes an Xbox-style interface, per-game settings, patches, performance monitoring, and internal-resolution scaling from 1× to 4×. Those are descriptions of the PS5 port as reported by VideoCardz, not independently verified compatibility or performance claims.

The upstream xemu project describes its emulator as a free, open-source emulator for the original Microsoft Xbox on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its site lists controller support, save states, and render scaling from 480p to 1080p. Those xemu-wide features do not by themselves establish that each works the same way in XPSemu on PS5.
xemu’s compatibility reports are submitted by volunteers based on their experience with a current version on their own computers, and may need updating as the project changes. They should not be treated as a PS5-specific XPSemu compatibility list.

Why firmware matters for a jailbroken PS5
XPSemu is reported to run on jailbroken PS5 systems, so a console’s firmware and jailbreak eligibility are practical prerequisites. VideoCardz said the recent developments followed jailbreaks for PS5 firmware 13.6 and that Sony had released another firmware update the day before its October 3, 2026 article. The report advised people seeking to preserve jailbreak options to wait while the newer firmware was examined.
That is time-sensitive guidance, not a complete compatibility chart: the report does not establish which console revisions or firmware versions are eligible, or whether a particular PS5 can be jailbroken. Check current, model- and firmware-specific information before changing a console’s software. Do not assume a newly purchased retail PS5 is jailbreak-ready, or that a firmware change can be reversed.

What the reports do—and do not—say about legality
VideoCardz frames jailbreaks as a way to run homebrew, open-source software, and alternative operating systems, not solely as a piracy tool. The report does not provide jurisdiction-specific legal analysis, so it cannot establish whether a particular jailbreak, emulator use, or game-file source is lawful where you live. Avoid treating emulation status as a blanket answer to questions about game ownership, copying, or distribution.
