Short answer: The A.H. Beard King Koil Everyday Comfort MK2 is a 28 cm pocket-spring mattress sold in several comfort levels, including firm, medium, plush and super firm. Public CHOICE information identifies the queen firm model and gives it a 51% unused comfort score (CHOICE, 2025). That is a comfort-test result, not the mattress’s overall CHOICE Expert Rating: the detailed rating, recommendation and performance measurements are restricted to CHOICE members. The mattress may suit shoppers who want a conventional spring build and multiple firmness choices, but the available evidence does not justify calling it a universally comfortable or independently recommended model.
What the Everyday Comfort MK2 is
CHOICE’s publicly visible product listing covers an in-store, queen-size spring mattress with a claimed firm comfort level. The tested configuration has a pocket-spring core, 11 layers, 222 springs per square metre, a listed thickness of 28 cm and a measured weight of 36 kg. CHOICE displays fields for expert rating, recommendation, support, stability, sagging resistance, breathability, wear resistance and warmth/coolness, but those results are member-only. It is therefore not possible to report the model’s complete CHOICE verdict from the public page.

A.H. Beard’s own range page lists the Everyday Comfort MK2 in single, long single, king single, double, queen and king sizes. It names firm, medium, plush and super firm comfort choices. A retailer’s stock, available size or firmness can differ from the range shown by the manufacturer, so confirm the exact label on the mattress you are ordering.
The name “Everyday Comfort MK2” identifies a family rather than one universal feel. A queen firm mattress is the configuration described by CHOICE, while a medium or plush version may use different comfort materials or quilting. Do not assume that the 51% result applies unchanged to every size or firmness in the range.

Published specifications
| Specification | Publicly disclosed detail | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|

| Claimed comfort | Firm | CHOICE listing for the tested unit |
| Thickness | 28 cm | CHOICE measurement |
| Springs | 222 springs per square metre | CHOICE listing |
| Layers | 11 | CHOICE listing |
| Weight | 36 kg | CHOICE listing for its tested configuration |
| Queen dimensions | 203.5 × 150.5 × 28 cm | CHOICE-listed dimensions |
| Queen dimensions | 2030 × 1530 mm (length × width) | A.H. Beard’s product page |
| Other comfort choices | Medium, plush and super firm, in addition to firm | A.H. Beard range description; availability varies by seller and size |
The two published queen measurements are not identical: CHOICE records 203.5 × 150.5 cm, while A.H. Beard publishes 203 × 153 cm. The difference may reflect measuring practice, product variation or specification conventions. If a tight bed-frame fit matters, measure the delivered mattress or ask the retailer for the specification of the exact SKU rather than assuming either figure will apply universally.
That small discrepancy matters when a mattress sits inside a platform, caravan bed or older frame with little clearance. Also allow room for bedding and for moving a 36 kg mattress through hallways, stairs and lift doors. Nominal size labels such as “queen” are not a substitute for checking the frame’s internal dimensions.
What CHOICE actually found
The model-specific public result
CHOICE’s broader comparison of foam and spring mattresses reports an unused comfort score of 51% for the queen Everyday Comfort MK2. The result is attributed to CHOICE in 2025. “Unused” means the mattress was assessed before the simulated wear portion of the testing; it is not a statement that every owner will experience 51% comfort in their bedroom.
CHOICE compares that 51% result with a 70% unused comfort result for the A.H. Beard King Koil Chiro Reserve. The comparison illustrates that two spring mattresses from one manufacturer can perform differently; it is not a claim that the Chiro Reserve is the right alternative for you or that its score predicts long-term durability.
CHOICE describes its general mattress work as considering comfort and support for back and side sleepers and using wear and damage tests intended to simulate roughly eight years of use. Those are descriptions of the testing approach, not a disclosure of this model’s hidden scores for support, sagging, durability or temperature.
What the 51% does not mean
- It is not the overall CHOICE Expert Rating.
- It is not a pass/fail recommendation.
- It is not a durability, sagging, breathability or heat score.
- It does not establish that the firm, medium, plush and super firm variants feel the same.
- It is not a guarantee of comfort for a particular body type, sleeping position or partner.
CHOICE content producer Peter Zaluzny notes that “Spring mattresses are also inconsistent within the same brand.” That is especially relevant here because the publicly disclosed comfort result applies to a named queen configuration, while the product family includes multiple firmness levels and sizes.
Firmness: firm, medium, plush or super firm?
The CHOICE-listed unit is the claimed firm version. A.H. Beard also names medium, plush and super firm versions, and a retailer category listing showed firm, medium and plush queen options. “Firm” is a product designation, not a universal feel scale: body weight, sleeping position, foundation, room temperature and the comfort layers above the springs all influence how hard or soft a mattress feels.

A heavier sleeper may compress the comfort layers more and experience a softer feel than a lighter sleeper on the same model. Side sleepers commonly notice pressure at the shoulder and hip first, while back sleepers may focus more on support through the lumbar area. These are reasons to test the exact version rather than choose from the label alone; they are not promises about how the MK2 will feel for any individual.
How to choose in a store
- Lie in your normal sleeping position for at least several minutes rather than sitting on the edge.
- Check whether your spine feels level when lying on your side and whether your hips or shoulders sink uncomfortably.
- On your back, look for even support without a pronounced hollow under your lower back or pressure at the shoulders.
- Try the exact firmness and size you intend to buy. A different showroom version is only an approximation.
- If sharing the bed, lie down together and change positions to check movement and edge comfort.
- Ask whether the display model is the current MK2 and whether its base matches the one you will use at home.
- Ask for the written exchange, adjustment and delivery terms before paying.
Because the manufacturer does not promise a change-of-mind return, an in-store test and a clear discussion of the selected firmness are more important than they would be with a mattress sold with a generous home trial.
Construction claims from A.H. Beard
A.H. Beard describes four named parts of the design:
- AeroComfort: described as breathable, pressure-relieving comfort.
- AeroQuilt: described as breathable quilting.
- EvoFoam: described as responsive cushioning.
- Conforma Coil Support System: described as body-conforming support.
These are manufacturer descriptions of the materials and intended functions. CHOICE independently records a pocket-spring core, but its publicly accessible page does not provide a layer-by-layer validation of each named component or confirm that the claimed effects occur for every sleeper. Treat the feature names as construction information and marketing claims, not as independent performance results.

The 222-springs-per-square-metre figure is useful for identifying the tested configuration, but spring count alone cannot tell you how the mattress will feel, how well it isolates movement or how long it will last. Coil shape, gauge, zoning, foam density, quilting and the supporting base all influence those outcomes, and the publicly visible listing does not disclose enough detail to calculate them.
Price and value in Australia
The available prices are snapshots tied to a size, firmness and seller:
| Listing | Configuration | Displayed price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| CHOICE product page | Queen configuration | $899 | Listed price; the page also says $699 was paid on sale or after bargaining |
| Forty Winks listing | Queen firm | $899 | Retailer snapshot when accessed |
| Forty Winks listing | Queen medium | $999 | Retailer snapshot when accessed |
| Forty Winks listing | Queen plush | $999 | Retailer snapshot when accessed |
These figures are not a permanent recommended retail price. Mattress promotions, bargaining, delivery charges and stock change frequently. Before ordering, verify the exact size, comfort level, total delivered price, removal charges and whether the displayed model is the MK2 rather than another King Koil product.

Compare the final invoice, not only the headline mattress price. A lower sale price can be offset by delivery to a regional postcode, assembly, stairs, an old-mattress pickup or a fee for changing the support level. Ask whether the price includes the base; the mattress listing and the compatible base are normally separate decisions.
Base compatibility, setup and care
A.H. Beard says the base affects a mattress’s comfort and service life. Its guidance recommends a compatible A.H. Beard base or an equivalent solid platform with proper centre support. Unsuitable, damaged or worn slats can alter the feel and may affect guarantee conditions. Some models can be used on adjustable bases, but the manufacturer advises confirming compatibility for the particular model before purchase.
Before delivery
- Measure the internal length and width of the bed frame, not just the nominal “queen” label.
- Check that the frame has centre rails and legs capable of supporting the mattress and sleepers.
- Inspect slats for breaks, bowing and excessive spacing.
- Confirm stair, lift and doorway access; the listed queen unit weighs 36 kg.
- Confirm which side faces up and whether the retailer will position the mattress in the room.
After installation
- Use a quality mattress protector, which A.H. Beard recommends to help protect the mattress.
- Rotate the mattress regularly according to the supplied care instructions.
- Keep the surface dry and avoid folding or bending it unless the manufacturer specifically permits that handling.
- Do not place it on a visibly broken or unsupported base.
- Retain the invoice, model details and guarantee document.
Rotation is not the same as flipping. Follow the supplied instructions for this particular model, especially if the comfort layers are designed for one sleeping surface. Keep photographs of the label and any manufacturing fault before making a claim.
Guarantee, adjustment and returns
A.H. Beard states that the original purchaser receives a ten-year guarantee against faulty workmanship and materials. The applicable guarantee document supplied with the purchase controls the exclusions, claim process and any conditions relating to the base.
A ten-year guarantee is not the same as a promise that the mattress will feel new for ten years. Ask what counts as a covered defect, whether inspection or transport costs apply, and whether the guarantee is reduced or transferred if the mattress is sold. Keep proof of purchase and follow the care and base requirements.

That statement should not be treated as an unconditional right: ask the retailer how the adjustment works, what it costs, which comfort changes are available and how a transport or inspection charge is handled.
This policy is materially different from a mattress-in-a-box trial. CHOICE notes that many boxed-mattress companies offer at-home trials, but a trial offered on another model or by another seller cannot be transferred to the Everyday Comfort MK2. Australian consumer-law rights for a faulty or misdescribed product are separate from a voluntary change-of-mind policy; ask the seller how it handles each situation.

Delivery, old-mattress removal and disposal
A.H. Beard’s shop information identifies Australian retailers carrying King Koil products. It also says Soft Landing operates in parts of New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Melbourne and Perth, with listed old-mattress pickup fees of $55–$77. Coverage and charges depend on the delivery location and current service arrangements, so confirm them with the retailer before scheduling delivery. Do not assume that a quoted mattress delivery includes removal of the old one.
Arrange disposal before delivery if your council, building manager or retailer has restrictions on mattresses. Confirm whether pickup occurs at the same time as delivery, whether the old mattress must be dismantled, and whether the service reaches your suburb. A recycling fee quoted for one state or postcode may not apply elsewhere.

How to compare the MK2 with another mattress
Compare like with like rather than relying on spring count or a comfort label alone. Use this checklist:
- Exact configuration: match size and firmness; a queen firm model is not equivalent to a queen plush or a different size.
- Independent evidence: look for disclosed comfort, support and durability measurements, and check whether a published score is a component result or a complete rating.
- Price: compare the same size, firmness, delivery service and any old-mattress removal charge.
- Returns and trials: establish whether you can exchange or return the mattress after sleeping on it.
- Guarantee: check duration, covered faults, base requirements and who pays transport or inspection costs.
- Fit: verify actual dimensions, frame clearance and access to the room.
- Feel: try the exact model where possible, because construction type alone does not predict comfort.
- Partner needs: test movement, edge support and temperature together if two people will use it.
CHOICE’s guidance is that comfort and support do not follow simply from choosing foam or springs. A spring mattress with more coils is not automatically better for your body, and a foam mattress is not automatically softer or hotter. The sleeper’s fit, the particular comfort layers and the purchase terms matter more than a single headline specification.

Potential strengths
- Pocket-spring construction is clearly identified for the CHOICE-listed unit.
- The range offers four named comfort choices, giving shoppers more selection than a one-firmness model.
- The manufacturer publishes construction terminology, size coverage and a ten-year workmanship-and-materials guarantee.
- The mattress is available through Australian retail channels where in-person testing is possible.
- Australian retailer coverage may make delivery, service and disposal easier than with an overseas-only seller.
Important limitations
- The only publicly identified model-specific CHOICE result is a 51% unused comfort score.
- The complete CHOICE Expert Rating, recommendation and detailed performance fields are member-only.
- Published queen dimensions differ between CHOICE and A.H. Beard.
- Prices are retailer and promotion snapshots rather than a stable national price.
- There is no stated change-of-mind return policy from the manufacturer.
- Named technologies such as AeroComfort and Conforma Coil are manufacturer claims, not independently verified benefits in the public evidence.
- Availability of medium, plush and super firm versions may vary by size, store and date.
Who should consider it?
Consider the Everyday Comfort MK2 if you want to test a traditional spring mattress in an Australian store, need a choice of firm, medium, plush or super firm versions, and are comfortable making a purchase without a standard change-of-mind trial. Confirm the exact firmness, frame compatibility and total delivered cost before committing.
Be more cautious if you cannot visit a store, require a home trial, have a bed frame with unusually tight dimensions, or are choosing solely because of the spring count or named foam technologies. The public evidence does not establish a universal comfort or durability advantage.

Verdict
The A.H. Beard King Koil Everyday Comfort MK2 is a conventional pocket-spring mattress family with broad firmness availability and a ten-year manufacturer guarantee for the original purchaser. Its publicly available independent evidence is limited: CHOICE reports a 51% unused comfort score for the queen model, while the full expert rating and performance results remain behind membership access. That makes an in-store test, exact-SKU check and careful review of return, base and delivery terms essential. It is a reasonable candidate for shoppers who value local retail fitting and firmness choice, but the published evidence is not strong enough to call it a standout recommendation for every sleeper.
