Blake wants the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to be the first video game he ever completes. “This will be the first, and likely only, video game I actually beat,” he told GamesRadar+. As of that interview, it was a goal he was preparing to pursue—not a game he had already finished.
What does Blake want to do before he dies?
Blake, the name used by GamesRadar+, says he has ALS and was told he had 12 months to live. In a Reddit post, he wrote that a medical breakthrough had slowed the disease and that he was in his fifth year after diagnosis, estimating that he might have about a year left. Those are Blake’s personal statements, not an independently verified medical history or an individual prognosis readers should apply to themselves.

His plan is to make the new Ocarina of Time his first fully completed game. He put it plainly in his Reddit post: “I’m dying, and I plan to make the new OOT the first game I ever fully complete.” GamesRadar+ identifies the poster, who uses the handle MadCybertist, as Blake.

Why does he want to finish Ocarina of Time?
Blake said he had long been interested in Ocarina of Time, and the timing of the new release gave him a reason to try it. Until now, he had not completed a video game. His gaming history leaned toward competitive and massively multiplayer games: he cited 11,000 hours in Dark Age of Camelot and 9,000 hours in Destiny.

He said declining reaction speed has led him toward single-player games, which he finds relaxing and rich in story. GamesRadar+ also named Hades, Celeste, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dredge and Spiritfarer among his recent favorites. Blake said Spiritfarer made him emotional in light of what he was experiencing.
Gaming is also time with his daughter
GamesRadar+ reports that Blake plays with his young daughter nearby: she watches and holds a spare controller while he plays. He described those moments as especially meaningful to him and his wife.

Nintendo’s US store lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with physical and digital editions and a scheduled release date of November 5, 2026. Nintendo describes this version as built from the ground up for Switch 2, with overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music and enhanced controls. The release date is scheduled, not confirmation that the game is already available.

The ALS Association says average survival after diagnosis is about three years, while many people live longer. The Association does not state a publication year on the cited page. A population average cannot confirm or contradict Blake’s account or predict his individual course. ALS can affect abilities including walking, dressing or writing, speaking or swallowing, and breathing independently; those possibilities are general context, not a description of what will happen to Blake.
GamesRadar+ reports that Blake’s father also had ALS and died six months after his diagnosis; this, too, is based on Blake’s account. The story is about his stated goal and the place games have in his life, not a clinical assessment.
