PixelBoard, a community Gboard modification, says it can bring Google’s Gemini-powered Rambler voice typing to Android phones beyond the Pixel 11 series—without root. That is the maintainer’s claim, not Google-supported compatibility or a guarantee for every phone. Google’s help page lists Pixel 11 series devices as the supported hardware; PixelBoard’s method involves a modified Gboard build, so its compatibility and setup can change as Android and Gboard are updated.
What Rambler changes about voice typing
Rambler is a Gemini-powered text-input feature in Gboard. Rather than transcribing every word exactly as spoken, it is designed to turn natural speech into more polished text by removing filler words, applying grammar and punctuation, and arranging the important parts into a concise message. Google also says users can revise text with voice commands, edit it on screen, and switch among supported languages while speaking. Google’s Rambler help page explains the feature and its controls.

In its May 12, 2026 Android announcement, Google described Rambler as a way to speak naturally and have the system “take the important parts” and fit them into a concise message. That is Google’s description of its own service, not an independent performance assessment. Google’s Android announcement introduced the feature as part of its Gemini Intelligence updates.
What Google officially requires
Google’s documented setup is narrower than the phrase “any Android phone” suggests. Its help page lists a Pixel 11 series device, the latest Gboard set as the default keyboard, microphone permission, and an active internet connection for full features. Google says offline use is available with limited features. Those are Google’s official prerequisites; they do not establish requirements or behavior for PixelBoard’s modified build.

How the PixelBoard port is described
PixelBoard’s public repository identifies it as a Gboard modification. The maintainer says the project uses an independent package ID so it can coexist with stock Gboard, and that Rambler can be enabled through a patch setting. These are project claims and documentation: Google has not presented PixelBoard as an official release, and the available material does not verify that it works on every non-Pixel device or that it matches Google’s feature set. The PixelBoard repository is the place to check the maintainer’s current scope and documentation.
A September 20, 2026 walkthrough from TechPP describes patching a Gboard APK with Morphe, then sideloading and enabling the result. It also cites specific Android and Gboard build requirements. Because those details depend on software versions, treat the walkthrough as a dated example rather than evergreen instructions; check the project’s current guidance before attempting an installation. The walkthrough does not establish that the procedure is safe or compatible with a particular phone. TechPP’s installation walkthrough covers its reported method.

What to check before installing a modified keyboard
- Confirm the exact device and software versions. A guide for one Android release or Gboard build may not apply to yours, and compatibility claims from the project are not universal guarantees.
- Read the current project instructions. Patching and sideloading are distinct from installing Gboard through the usual app channel. Do not rely on an old build number if the repository has changed its guidance.
- Consider keyboard access. A keyboard handles what you type and may request microphone access for voice input. Review the source and permissions for the particular build you intend to install, rather than assuming Google’s privacy statements cover a community modification.
- Keep a recovery route. Retain access to a trusted keyboard and know how to switch the default keyboard back if the modified build fails to install or behave as expected.
Languages, accuracy, and privacy
Google lists Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi and other supported Indian languages, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish for Rambler. It also says users can switch between supported languages while speaking. That list describes Google’s feature; it does not establish identical language availability or behavior in PixelBoard’s port.

For Google’s Rambler service, the help page says text, audio input, and corrections are temporarily processed and deleted after the text is delivered. Google’s Android announcement separately says audio is used for real-time transcription and is not saved. These are Google’s statements about its service; they do not establish how a modified keyboard build or a separate dictation app handles data. Google’s help page provides the later, more detailed processing description.

One reported alternative is Microsoft SwiftKey’s “AI voice” feature. 9to5Google reported on September 15, 2026, that it appeared in Android beta version 9.13.16.4 and could remove filler words and format dictated text. The report, citing Android Central, said it required downloading an offline language model and could work offline. This is a report about a specific beta version, not confirmation of general availability today. The 9to5Google beta report gives the version context.

Ramblr is another, separate Android dictation project. Its repository describes on-device transcription and cleanup, with optional cloud providers configured using the user’s own API key. It is not Google Rambler and is not PixelBoard; check its own documentation for current capabilities and data handling. The Ramblr repository describes that project.

Which option fits your situation?
| Option | What is established | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Google Rambler on Pixel 11 series | Google documents Gemini-powered cleanup, supported-language switching, voice revisions, and the stated device and setup prerequisites. | Google warns output can be wrong; full features require internet access. |
| PixelBoard modified Gboard | The maintainer says it patches Gboard to enable Rambler on other Android phones without root and can coexist with stock Gboard. | Compatibility and feature parity are not independently established; patching and sideloading instructions can become outdated. |
| SwiftKey AI voice | A September 2026 report describes filler-word cleanup and formatting in Android beta 9.13.16.4, with an offline language model. | The cited report concerns a beta, not verified broad availability; current support may differ. |
| Ramblr | Its project documentation describes local transcription and cleanup, plus optional cloud providers using the user’s own API key. | It is a separate app with its own setup and data choices, not a Rambler port. |
If you want the officially documented implementation, Google’s Pixel 11 requirements are the clearest path. If you are willing to install and maintain a community modification, PixelBoard’s claim is notable, but treat it as device- and version-dependent and review the project’s latest instructions. If avoiding a modified keyboard matters more, consider alternatives only after checking their current availability, language support, and privacy terms.
