What the list is—and what it is not
Retro Dodo reported on October 2, 2026, that an online user known as Funky90sLion had assembled a Google document of game decompilation and recompilation projects described as human-made. The curator says the directory will be updated and welcomes corrections. Read Retro Dodo’s report.

The list is a discovery resource, not an official industry designation or a certification system. “Human-made” is the curator’s classification as reported by Retro Dodo; the article does not establish that every creator confirmed their entry or that projects were independently audited. The report says the curator plans to contact creators, but does not show that this has happened for every listing.

The report describes four categories. They indicate the kind of project or its stage, but do not by themselves verify authorship, tooling, or current development status.

Examples named in the report include SM64-related ports, Zelda3, OpenGOAL, Perfect Dark, Sonic-related projects, and several recomp ports. These are examples cited by the article, not a complete inventory or an independently checked status list. The report does not provide a full per-project record of supported game or platform, development status, or creator confirmation.
Why the curator says the list is needed
The curator’s stated goal is to help readers find human-led projects amid untested AI-assisted ports. In a post dated October 1, 2026, attributed by Retro Dodo to FunkyLion ‘Yuyake’, the curator wrote: “Getting tired of untested vibecoded ports that are just buggy and because no experienced coders are around, they can’t fix it? Never fear, as I have listed decomps and recomps done by actual people and it will continue expanding! If you know any, lemme know!”
Rank #2
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
That is the curator’s concern, not a measured finding: Retro Dodo provides no failure-rate data or independent comparison of AI-assisted and human-led ports. The document’s introductory text similarly promotes classic games brought to PC with features such as mods, uncapped frame rates, and multiplayer while expressing concern about untested AI-assisted ports; those are the curator’s views.
How to assess an entry
Use the directory as a starting point, then evaluate the specific project rather than treating its category as proof. The report says the curator welcomes corrections, and entries or classifications may change.
Rank #3
- The games that inspired a generation come to life once more, in the ultimate 2D pixel remaster!
- These games are newly developed remaster editions based on the original titles. Some of the changes and additional elements found in other remakes of these games are not included.
- The Anniversary Edition includes a pixel character sticker sheet.
- Universally updated 2D pixel graphics, including the iconic FINAL FANTASY character designs created by Kazuko Shibuya, the original artist and current collaborator.
- Beautifully rearranged soundtrack in a faithful FINAL FANTASY style, overseen by original composer Nobuo Uematsu.
- Check which category the curator assigned and what that category means for the project.
- Look for the game and platform the project says it supports, and whether it is marked as a work in progress.
- Check the project’s own materials for development status and any statement from its creators about the process or tools used.
- If information is missing, treat creator confirmation, tooling, or current status as unknown rather than assuming the directory has verified it.
What is not established
Retro Dodo’s report gives no attributable count for the directory, no statistics on AI-generated port failures, and no independent validation of every listed project. It also does not establish the directory’s live URL or whether its contents have changed since the report’s October 2, 2026 update. Readers should therefore regard it as a changing community directory, not a complete or independently verified catalogue.
