Three Breville machines stand out for three different workflows: guided espresso with the Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction, customizable batch coffee with the Luxe Brewer Thermal, and hands-on espresso with the Barista Express. An early-fall 2026 sale report cited discounts of up to $300 on some Breville products, but that was not a blanket discount on all three picks—and those dated prices are not a live offer guarantee.
Which Breville coffee maker should you buy?
Choose by how you want to make coffee, not by the largest advertised discount. The Barista Touch Impress is the guided espresso option; the Luxe Brewer Thermal makes customizable drip coffee and has a long-steep cold brew cycle; the Barista Express gives you a more hands-on espresso routine.

| Model | Best fit | What the workflow involves |
|---|---|---|
| Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction | Guided espresso, including a cold coffee option | Its Impress Puck System guides tamping with a lever while the portafilter stays under the grinder. Its cold extraction method infuses grounds with cold water before high-pressure extraction. |
| Luxe Brewer Thermal | Customizable drip coffee and planned-ahead cold brew | Customize bloom time and temperature, as well as brew time and temperature. The cold brew cycle steeps grounds for 24 hours. |
| Barista Express | Espresso with more manual control | The machine grinds and doses beans; you tamp, level the grounds with the Razor tool, and steam milk. |
Cat Ellis, TechRadar’s Homes Editor and an SCA-certified barista, wrote on June 22, 2026: “I test over a dozen coffee makers every year here at TechRadar, and Breville’s espresso and drip coffee machines are consistently some of the best around.” That is Ellis’s account of her own testing experience and editorial judgment, not an independent comparative study. Read her three-pick guide at TechRadar.
How the three picks differ in daily use
Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction: guided espresso
This is the pick for someone who wants espresso but would appreciate help with a key part of the preparation. The Impress Puck System uses a lever to tamp the grounds while the portafilter remains beneath the grinder. The machine also offers a cold extraction method: it infuses the ground coffee with cold water before extracting under high pressure. That is distinct from a long-steep cold brew cycle.
#1 Best Overall
- MANUAL HAND-TEXTURED MICROFOAM: The powerful steam wand on this cappuccino maker and latte machine is designed to quickly turn milk into smooth, flavorful microfoam for creating latte art at home
- PRECISE DOSE GRINDING: Integrated precision conical burr grinder on bean-to-cup espresso machine grinds on demand to deliver correct amount of freshly ground coffee directly into portafilter for your preferred taste with any roast of bean
- WATER PRESSURE: Low pressure pre-infusion gradually increases pressure at the start and draws out all the flavors evenly during the extraction for a balanced-tasting espresso, latte or cappuccino
- RECEIVE 2 FREE BAGS OF SPECIALTY COFFEE: Included when you purchase and register any Breville coffee machine; T&Cs apply
- PRECISE ESPRESSO EXTRACTION: Digital temperature regulation (PID) delivers water at precisely the right temperature, so espresso coffee maker allows for precise espresso extraction
Luxe Brewer Thermal: adjustable drip and slow cold brew
The Luxe Brewer Thermal is the one to consider if you usually make a batch rather than pull espresso shots. It provides customization for bloom time and temperature, and for brew time and temperature. Its cold brew cycle takes 24 hours, so it suits readers who are willing to plan ahead rather than expect a quick cold coffee.
Barista Express: more hands-on espresso
The Barista Express combines grinding and dosing with a manual espresso workflow. You still tamp the grounds, use the Razor tool to level them, and steam milk yourself. That involvement may appeal to someone who wants to take a more active role in making espresso; it is less guided than the Touch Impress.

What “up to $300 off” meant for Prime Day deals
On September 30, 2026, 9to5Toys reported an early-fall Amazon sale with savings of up to $300 off list prices on Breville machines, grinders, and accessories. The outlet’s examples included one Barista Touch Impress finish at $1,200 from $1,500 and one Barista Express finish at $500 from $700. These are dated examples for particular finishes, not confirmed current prices, historical price lows, or proof that every pick received the same reduction. See 9to5Toys’ September 30 sale report.
Tom’s Guide’s October 4, 2026 early-deals roundup separately listed the Breville Bambino Plus at $399 from $499 and said Prime Big Deal Days ran October 6–7. The Bambino Plus is not one of Ellis’s three picks, and that report does not establish a price for the Luxe Brewer Thermal or the Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction. Because these reports are tied to specific dates and listings, check the retailer page before buying: confirm the seller, model, finish, availability, and price. A discount against list price is not, by itself, evidence that an item is at its lowest historical price.
Breville or Sage? Check the name for your region
TechRadar says the machines are sold under the Breville name in the United States and Australia, and as Sage in the United Kingdom. Search and compare using the name and retailer listings appropriate to your location; a listing under the regional brand may be the relevant version of the same machine.
