The closest match to a $400, 1500W electric dirt bike is a sold, used, modified Razor-style bike—not a new bike with independently verified 1500W output. Its OfferUp title says 1500W, but the seller’s description lists a 60V/1200W motor and a 48V/16Ah lithium battery. That mismatch matters: the listing is a seller’s claim, not an inspection or performance test.
What the $400 listing actually says
The OfferUp listing was for a modified Razor MX350/MX400 in Vista, California, and was marked sold when accessed. Its title described a “48V 1500W Hub Motor,” while the seller’s description gave a different motor rating: 60V/1200W. The seller also listed a 48V/16Ah lithium battery, front and rear disc brakes, and an included charger, and said the bike “is not recommended for the beginner rider.” OfferUp listing

Those details do not establish the bike’s actual motor output, condition, or safety. The title and description conflict, and battery voltage and amp-hours alone cannot verify motor power. The bike was a one-off used listing that has sold; it does not show that similar bikes are available for $400.
What new-bike prices suggest
Retailer listings reviewed provide a useful comparison, but they are price snapshots—not a market-wide average. The examples below are retailer-advertised products and specifications; prices, stock, and claims can change.

Wilson’s also lists lower-power kids’ models around $340–$360 and adult or higher-power products above that range. The listed new 1500W-class examples reviewed here cost more than $400. A retailer’s “peak” wattage is not the same as sustained motor output, and it is not a measured performance result unless supported by independent testing. How to judge a cheap or modified bike
Before treating a low price or wattage label as a bargain, compare the whole vehicle and the terms of the sale:

- New or used: Confirm whether the bike is new, previously ridden, or modified, and ask for its history.
- Rated or peak power: Ask what the wattage figure represents. Do not assume a peak claim means sustained output.
- Battery and charger: Check the battery’s voltage, amp-hour rating, physical condition, and compatibility with the charger. A mismatched or altered battery setup needs particular scrutiny.
- Fit and equipment: Check vehicle size against the rider, and inspect brakes, suspension, tires, cables, frame, and included parts.
- Ownership support: Clarify warranty coverage, access to service and replacement parts, and the seller’s return terms.
- Where it will be ridden: Confirm that the intended location permits that vehicle; off-road design or an e-bike label does not by itself establish road legality.
Safety checks and battery cautions
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises riders to wear a helmet and check the handlebars, brakes, throttle, tires, cables, and frame before riding. Follow the manufacturer’s age and weight limits and local rules, and use the supplied or manufacturer-approved charger. Is a 1500W dirt bike legal on public roads?
Do not assume so. CPSC’s summary of the federal low-speed e-bike category describes a vehicle with fully operational pedals, a motor under 750 watts, and a top speed under 20 mph when operated solely by motor. A 1500W dirt bike should not be presumed to fit that category. Whether a specific vehicle can be used on public roads depends on its design and applicable vehicle and local rules; the reviewed sources do not establish the legal status of any particular modified bike in every jurisdiction.
