A 2026 Gaming TV Deal? What We Know About the TCL M8LF and Its Price

The TCL 65-inch M8LF is a plausible match for the 2026 gaming-TV deal described in the headline, but the available reporting does not confirm that it was the TV intended—or that it was an Amazon Prime Day offer. Tom’s Guide reported a Best Buy price of $499, down from $799, on October 4, 2026. That dated price is not a live quote. The model’s reported specifications look promising for gaming, but buyers should verify the exact listing and current price before deciding.

Is the TCL M8LF the TV in the headline?

It is a possible match, not a confirmed identification. Tom’s Guide’s October 4, 2026 article, “I’ve found 5 premium TV deals you won’t see on October Prime Day,” described a 65-inch TCL M8LF Mini-LED 4K Fire TV (2026). The article included it among deals at Best Buy, not as an Amazon Prime Day offer.

The distinction matters: the model’s features and a retailer’s temporary price are separate facts. The report does not establish that the M8LF is the television named in the headline, that Amazon sold it for the reported price, or that the deal remains available.

What gaming features does the reported model have?

Tom’s Guide reported a 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for the TCL M8LF. It also listed Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, full-array local dimming, and built-in Amazon Alexa. Those are reported specifications, not the results of hands-on gaming or picture-quality testing.

TCL 50-Inch F8D Series 120Hz 4K UHD QLED Smart Fire TV, HDR, 50F8D (2026)
  • 4K QLED with Quantum Dot Color: Experience 4x the detail of Full HD with rich, true-to-life color covering nearly the entire DCI-P3 spectrum - movies, sports, and shows look sharper and more vivid in every scene
  • Dolby Vision HDR & HDR10+ for Realistic Contrast: Built-in support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG delivers deeper blacks, brighter highlights, and more accurate color no matter what you're streaming
  • High Brightness LED Backlight: A brighter, more vibrant picture even in sunlit or well-lit rooms, so glare never washes out the detail
  • Smooth 120Hz Motion with VRR & Auto Game Mode (ALLM): Native 120Hz refresh rate with Motion Rate 480 keeps fast sports and action blur-free, while Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Game Mode automatically cut input lag for smoother, more responsive gaming
  • Fire TV Experience: Smart recommendations, watchlists, and it knows how to pick up where you left off. No endless scrolling. Ask Alexa what to watch next

A 144Hz refresh rate can be useful when a connected device and game can output at a compatible high frame rate. It does not mean every console game will run at 144 frames per second. Actual output depends on the game, device, connection, and settings.

VRR and ALLM depend on the connected device

Amazon explains that variable refresh rate (VRR) synchronizes a TV’s refresh rate with a compatible gaming device, which can reduce stutter and screen tearing. ALLM lets a compatible device switch the TV automatically to a low-lag game mode. As Amazon puts it, “VRR: Allows your TV to synchronize its refresh rate with your gaming device for smoother viewing.” See Amazon’s Fire TV gaming-feature guidance for its compatibility and setup caveats.

Amazon cautions that VRR and ALLM are not available on every Fire TV, and that higher refresh rates depend on the game and device output settings. Its general instructions say supported Fire TV models may require HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 for 120Hz or 144Hz at 4K/UHD. That is model-dependent guidance; it does not establish which M8LF ports support those signals. Confirm the port map in the exact model’s manual or listing rather than assuming every HDMI 2.1 input behaves identically.

What to check before buying

  • Exact model: Confirm the listing says TCL M8LF and matches the 65-inch model; do not rely on a headline or a similar-looking product name.
  • Retailer and current price: Check the live listing, stock, delivery terms, and final checkout price. Treat the $499 figure as historical reporting from October 4, 2026.
  • Your gaming device: Check whether your console or PC supports the resolution, refresh rate, VRR, and ALLM you want to use, and whether your games output those modes.
  • Port details: Verify which HDMI inputs accept the required signal and whether connecting other devices will leave enough suitable ports.
  • Evidence behind the claims: The cited coverage reports specifications but does not provide measured input lag, hands-on game testing, or a comparison proving the M8LF beats other TVs.

Is it a good gaming-TV deal?

The reported specification list makes the M8LF a promising candidate for a shopper seeking a large 4K TV with gaming-oriented connectivity and a high refresh-rate claim. But a feature list alone cannot establish real-world responsiveness, image quality, or value against competing models. The available evidence supports considering it, not calling it the best gaming TV or recommending the old reported price as a current bargain.
