Pratik Patel’s practical test is whether each tool has a distinct job, produces something another role can use, and has a named person accountable for the handoff. His essay, published September 29, 2026, offers a way to organize a stack around work rather than a collection of chat windows. The named tools below are Patel’s examples, not a product comparison or endorsement.
What it means to treat an AI stack as a team
A team has responsibilities, handoffs, and accountability. Applied to AI tools, that means deciding what each service is for, what it must pass along, and who checks the seam between one tool and the next. Patel puts it this way: “A paid stack is not leverage until each tool has a job, a handoff, and a named owner for the handoff.” Read Patel’s original essay.
The owner does not have to do every task. The owner is accountable for making sure that intent survives the transition, that the next tool has enough context, and that the result is verified. Without that role, a polished answer can be mistaken for completed work even when the next person or system lacks the constraints that shaped it.
Assign tools by the work they return
Patel describes a roster organized around different outputs. It is an illustration of role assignment, not evidence that these products are objectively best at the listed tasks. Product names, plans, and capabilities can change.

| Role in Patel’s example | Named tool | Intended output |
|---|---|---|
| Long-horizon planning and overnight loops | Claude Max | A planning trail that can be picked up later |
| Structured briefs and compression | ChatGPT Pro | A concise, organized brief for the next role |
| Adversarial review | SuperGrok | Critique that tests assumptions or exposes weaknesses |
| Repository implementation | Cursor | A reviewable code change |
| Walking a UI path | Antigravity | Evidence from following a product path |
The useful distinction is the deliverable, not the brand. If two tools produce interchangeable summaries and neither owns a missing phase, the roster may have duplication rather than teamwork. Conversely, a tool can earn its place by providing an output that the other roles cannot reliably supply in the workflow.
Make every handoff carry the context that matters
A screenshot or a link to a long conversation is not a dependable handoff: the receiver may not know the objective, what is constrained, or what has already been tried. Patel’s handoff guidance names the context to preserve. His DEV Community repost describes the same core fields:
Rank #2
- COOPERATIVE STRATEGY: Work as a team against the game itself in Pandemic. Players combine their roles and actions to contain four global outbreaks, share knowledge, and race to complete all four cures before time runs out.
- SPECIALIST ROLES: Play as the Medic, Scientist, Researcher, Operations Expert, and more. Each role has distinct abilities that shape team strategy and make every player's decisions important from start to finish.
- TEAMWORK GAMEPLAY: Pandemic rewards planning, card management, and coordinated moves. This cooperative strategy game creates tense decisions each round as players balance immediate threats with long-term progress.
- SERIES ENTRY POINT: Pandemic is the base game that introduces the wider series, including Pandemic Legacy Season 1. Learn the core systems here, then build on that experience in future campaign play.
- GROUP GAME NIGHT: For 2-4 players ages 8 and up, Pandemic plays in about 45-60 minutes. It fits family game nights at home, family vacations, adult board game groups, and players looking for a teamwork-focused tabletop challenge.
- Goal: What outcome is needed?
- Constraints: What must remain true, or what limits apply?
- Blast radius: What could be affected if the proposed action is wrong?
- Current hypothesis: What explanation or approach is being pursued?
- Ruled-out possibilities: What has already been checked or rejected, and why?
- Definition of done: What observable result will count as completion?
Put these details in a durable brief, issue, task, or other artifact the receiving role can inspect. Patel’s line, “The trail has to survive a tab crash,” captures the point: the workflow should not depend on keeping one conversation open or asking the next tool to infer intent from fragments.
Specify access, verification, and recovery
A role description is incomplete if it says only what a tool should do. It should also bound what the tool may access or change, and state how to recover if the change is wrong. This matters especially when a task moves from advice to implementation.

Rank #3
- 66 challenging missions that increase in difficulty
- 5 boxes of surprises to unlock
- A cooperative deduction game for 2 to 5 players
- Each mission introduces a new twist
- Access: State what the tool may read and write, and what is out of scope.
- Verification: Name the check that can establish whether the result works, rather than relying on a status message.
- Recovery: Identify a clear way to undo or contain an unwanted change.
- Evidence: Return artifacts another person can inspect, such as a reviewable diff or pull request, a test or check, reproduction steps, or before-and-after evidence.
For a repository task, the handoff should lead to a reviewable change, a check, and a revert path. For a UI verification task, the evidence should correspond to the same reproduction path that was requested. These artifacts make it possible for the owner to judge the result instead of accepting a claim that the work is done.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Decide whether a subscription earns its place
Use the role and handoff contract as an audit, not a race to consolidate everything into one service. Patel’s framework does not establish that a particular vendor or a single all-in-one product is right for every workflow. For each paid tool, ask:
Rank #4
- Does it own a distinct job or output the current roster lacks?
- Can it receive structured context and return an artifact another role can use?
- Can the owner inspect its actions, limit access, verify the result, and reverse an unwanted change?
- Does it overlap with another role, and is a person accountable for its use and renewal?
These are practical questions derived from Patel’s framework, not tested product scores. If a subscription has no distinct job, it may be a candidate to cancel or demote to occasional use. Keep the decision tied to the work it supports, rather than treating the number of subscriptions as a measure of capability.
