For Apple’s officially documented bulk-delete method, use iCloud.com on a tablet or computer: open All Contacts, select the entries, then choose Actions > Delete Contact. To delete directly on an iPhone, Apple documents removing contacts one at a time; MacRumors has also described a two-finger gesture for selecting adjacent contacts, but Apple’s cited iPhone instructions do not document that gesture.
Choose the method that matches where the contacts are stored

Delete multiple iCloud contacts on iCloud.com
Apple says Contacts on iCloud.com is used from a tablet or computer. This method applies to contacts in iCloud, not automatically to contacts stored with Google, Exchange, Yahoo, or another provider.
- On a tablet or computer, go to iCloud.com/contacts and sign in.
- Choose All Contacts.
- Select the contacts you want to remove.
- Open Actions, choose Delete Contact, then confirm with Delete.
Apple says the selected iCloud contacts are deleted from every device where Contacts is turned on in iCloud settings. Check the selected names before confirming, especially if iCloud Contacts is enabled on other devices.
Try the reported iPhone gesture for adjacent contacts
MacRumors described this approach on February 27, 2023. Apple’s cited iPhone support instructions do not describe it, and the available guidance does not establish support for every iOS version or contact-account setup.

- Open the Contacts app, or open Phone and tap Contacts.
- Place two fingers on the list and drag across the adjacent contacts you want to select, then release.
- Press and hold one of the selected contacts with one finger.
- Choose Delete [X] Contacts and confirm.
The described gesture selects a run of neighboring entries; it does not establish how to select separate, non-adjacent contacts in one pass. If it does not work on your phone, use iCloud.com for iCloud contacts or delete entries individually.
Delete a single contact using Apple’s iPhone workflow
- Open Contacts and tap the contact.
- Tap Edit, then scroll down.
- Tap Delete Contact, then tap Delete Contact again to confirm.
Apple’s documented iPhone procedure removes one contact at a time. If several contacts need deleting and they are not covered by a working adjacent-selection gesture, repeat these steps for each one.

Check the account before deleting
An iPhone can show contacts from multiple configured accounts, including iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Google, and Yahoo. A contact’s account determines where its deletion takes effect; not every contact is stored in iCloud.

- Deleting a contact: Apple warns that removing a contact from an email account also permanently deletes it from all devices signed in to that account.
- Removing or hiding an account on the iPhone: Apple says its contacts stop appearing on that iPhone but remain in the internet account and on other devices previously configured with it. This does not delete the provider’s stored contacts.
- Recovering an accidental iCloud deletion: Apple provides instructions for restoring an archived version of iCloud contacts. That guidance does not establish recovery for contacts stored with other providers. See Apple’s contact-restoration guide.
